She wrote this when she was 13 after reading an article in the newspaper about addiction... Like so many of their first compositions they drew inspiration from what they have read or watched...
Written by 13 year old Pau about addiction for their first album XXI Century Blood. Pau sings in about ⅓ of their songs and sings by herself in about ¼ of their songs. The strings were an idea by their manager Rudy. He recruited them from a school in Monterrey.
Paulina's voice is much stronger in the live, both due to six years of experience and maturation, and the raspiness of flu. The strings replace a lot of the guitar work at Pepsi Center. This song has been known to bring recovering addicts to tears. If you want someone to sing an emotional ballad (especially one she wrote), Pau is your vocalist. The song she played after this one is even more emotional, despite the lack of other accompaniment. 8000 rabid fans crying rabidly...
She is overwhelmed at the beginning and you can see her say to herself "dont cry" in Spanish. She gets through it and almost comes apart at the end. Wonderful performance. Wonderful voice.
I wouldn't like to choose which version that i prefer more , accept that they are both great in their own right . The Dakota bar version is well worth a mention as well !
i agree about the studio version but i do like dany's guitar playing and ale's bass on this one live at the dakota bar, dany shows off her harmonic skills and ale's bass playing is unreal and cuts right thru to your soul, Pau is standing but bent at the knees giving it everything she has, def a hidden treasured gem to check out if you get a chance, Pau sitting down with strings is special tho and i wouldnt put this one or that one over each other, two can fit in this bucket for me, thanks for doing a double TW reaction!
I know you’ve just heard two versions of this song, but I recommend watching their live version from the Dakota Bar as well. There are no strings on that one, but the gorgeous background vocals from Dany and Ale add a similarly powerful element.
If you do the next song from this concert, Breathe, then take it from the full concert video (timestamp in description). This is because Pau talks a bit and the translation is better than the auto generated one in the individual video. Also, studio version can be from the Teatro Metropolitan show as it was played while they were offstage changing for the second half.
Man, you should have done a triple, with one of their live performances with the whole band (like Lunario or Foro Sol) -- while I love stripped down solo versions of some of these classics, the original live arrangements are PERFECTION.
*Black Holes* a song about addiction written by 13yo Pau (drums)... it was released on their 1st album, _"XXI Century Blood"_ back on Mar 27, 2017 when they were an independent band... this track/song hits very close to home for many listeners... especially if they have dealt with addiction of their own or that of someone close to them... TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
I like the tie on her bass drum pants leg. The moment she hears the crowd and looks in awe, then the huge smile is one of the best piece of video I've ever seen
When the piano was rolled out, and the all-female string section came on stage, all of us in the Pepsi Center that evening knew we were going to get something special. I expected it to be good. But, we were blown away. I agree. The string section added to much to this song and the their version of Enter Sandman. Just amazing.
Having listened to a zillion live albums over the years, I’d say it depends on the artist and the song, many times live is better but you can lose a lot of subtle sounds that make the studio better. With The Warning it truly is skewed to the live. HOWEVER I personally think it is an insult to downplay their official music videos, because there is a level of artistry and cinematic excellence in all their videos. They put a lot of effort into their videos and I don’t think they’d appreciate the lack of respect that a lot of people show them. Pau played Breathe right after this. She swore she’d never play it live, but she did and it MUST be on your list real soon. Thanks, great reaction
@@K-RossReacts No no no don't get me wrong.I only meant the way some fans seem to scold reactors for doing the music videos instead of live concert videos because it's a more exciting visual and sonic experience. I think they put tons of work into their artsy videos and people should never be discouraged from watching anything they make. It's a good chance to do it like you do and listen to the OMV and then do a live at the same time.
You have to remember that Pau was only 14 or 15 when they recorded that album and they were still an independent band raising money by crowdfunding to pay for it. The strings do add something special, though the live performance at the Dakota Bar a few years ago with Dany and Ale adding their harmonies is pretty special too. 😎👍
There is a live version video of this song back in the day when Alejandra was still the shortest sister that has a fantastic energetic performance by Paulina on the piano and has Daniela on electric guitar and Alejandra on bass and the electric guitar sounds better than the studio. So just you know there is a live version of this song closer to the studio recording sound.
The original version is perfect, watching Pau's emotions (that smile 😍😍) live and the added strings made it like 1000%. This is definitely the best version of this song, so far. Don't know how could they top it but this is The Warning, you never know 😁😁 Want more strings??? Check out "Enter Sandman" from this same show.
As expected, many are pushing you to do "Breathe". We are told someone wanted one more track for the "Error" album. Pau agreed to record "Breathe" on the condition she never have to play it live. She recorded it at home on the family piano, apparently with no one else around. We are told she took care of all the production aspects. When you watch the live version, you'll get some insight into why, and why she performed it live. There are only two official recordings -- The album version, including its lyric video. th-cam.com/video/hrQZ9UJaqd0/w-d-xo.html The other is Pau performing it in this concert right after "Black Holes". th-cam.com/video/mV0SHcP0eQQ/w-d-xo.html The concert link is taken from the full concert video as it includes embedded translations into English of Pau's remarks, which are important.
The original studio version is great, no doubt, butt his live performance is...majestic (I´m running out of adjectives to describe these ladies). Pau´s voice has obviously matured, the string section added so much and the feeling that Pau put into this performance. This is the result of those things combined. Not to mention that like others have commented already, she wrote this song when she was in her early teens, that just blows my mind!! When people ask me what The Warning son is my favorite, I always say I can´t pick just one. But I have narrowed it down to any song where Pau sings lead. There´s just something special about her.
This was a great rendition, although I personally prefer the Dakota Bar version. I feel Pau expresses more emotion in that performance, and you also have Dany doing harmonics on her guitar.
The live versions are almost ALWAYS better when from the Warming. They are like Springsteen in that way. The studio version is always great, but the songs come alive on stage. Now, if you haven't yet, you NEED to do n the next song, "Breathe." Make sure you have tissues ready.
I'm waiting for a DVD or BluRay from this concert to come out! Fantastic concert! I've seen them already twice this year, and purchased my ticket for june 22, 2025 at Pinkpop festival together with Korn and Muse.
Alright... just clicked on this, have not watched your reaction. But because this is BLACK HOLES, I predict you will have the water works turned on. Let's see... Edit Update: Didn't see wiped eyes, but emotional for sure. Who could not be affected by Pau on this one?

This live performance is after years of vocal lessons and six years after the studio version. And they added strings. The fact that Pau wrote this song when she was like 13 or 14 is insane to me. These girls are so talented.
She wrote this when she was 13 after reading an article in the newspaper about addiction... Like so many of their first compositions they drew inspiration from what they have read or watched...

I love this version but the Dakota bar is special. I love the backing vocals by her sisters.
Pau is next level. A genuine gift to rock and queen of the
“Pau’er Ballad”. Combined with her sisters, they’re a formidable force of nature.

The Strings are some, or all, of the String Section from the University of Monterrey in their home town.

Such a powerful song and even crazier that it was written when Pau was 13!
Emotions engaged when Pau sings her ballads. ❤🥹🤘
When you realize that she is the drummer and English is her second language, it just boggles the mind!
When Pau recorded the studio version, she was what? 16 year old max? Insane talent, insane work.
13, she wrote it after reading a news article about addiction
Rule of thumb: Is it a slow song that makes you feel things you never expected from a rock band? It's probably Pau on vocals.
8,000 predominantly Spanish speaking crowd singing the English lyrics.

As much as I love Martirio from Teatro Met, I still love the OMV for it.

The thing is, Pau is not the drummer. She is the heart and soul of this band (Danny is the power, Ale the tempo), who happens to drum like hell xD
