Super jealous of the CNC. Great setup. I had to smile when I saw the clamps get cut. I've had so many of those moments on my smaller CNC that its nice to know I'm not the only one!
God bless you guys who actually do the videoing of the build process. I’m the type to be more inclined to just build any project than worry about videoing/editing & posting! 😂 I’m in the process of building my second woodworking shop. We just moved to a 10 acre place on a mountain. So I’m dividing a 36’x40’ 4-car garage in half and adding an additional 10’x20’ room off the back. About 920 sq ft of shop when I’m finished. Where’s my video camera? Not! Good luck with your CNC! LOOKS FABULOUS!
Vacuum tables on CNC machines make a huge difference compared to a regular hold down table. Also calipers instead of a tape measure makes measuring and squaring stuff up on a CNC is a must.
@stephen matsler yeah i too really had a hard time switching my mind from woodworking (rules, squares, saw and chisels) to machining (calipers, feeds and speeds) ... quite a leap of faith ☺
Thank you for posting this video. I'm buying the Avid CNC Pro 4896 next month after doing tons of research on buying a cnc machine on the internet, so your video is a Godsend for newbie's like me. I'm very grateful and you are much appreciated.
This is an interesting way to setup the geometry of the machine. How about a caliper instead of a measuring tape? For trimming the spindle you usually use a dial gauge.
What a gorgeous cnc. The red color seems to be your favourite and I do have to say that the red color really matches with you man . What a great video. Now I am going forward to build this cnc machine in the future thanks to your tutorial
Great video! Your timing coming out with this video is perfect. I just received my 5x10 Avid CNC Pro in boxes but still have a couple weeks yet until I can start the build process. I'm really interested to see more on your vacuum work holding system.
I priced this 'kit' out on their site (3 HP router) and it came out at $11,157.75. Not terrible, but also seems high for something that requires a lot of assembly and is essentially aluminum extrusion. I'm looking for alternatives.
This is a very high quality kit. Attention to detail is top notch. The only thing I did not like was the cut in half Y axis. I think at this quality level the owners would not mind the extra shipping cost of the longer rails.
Based out of the Metro Detroit area there are 2 places that supply "Rexroth Bosch Group"--their "Aluminum Structural Framing System". Here macho robotics are precisely fabricated in the auto industry using "T"-Slotted Aluminum extrusions. There are an easy 100 companies producing this stuff. I went on line to their site for a few projects. Asked for their one inch thick book catalog, and got a flash drive with the same but also including CAD for everything they have(most people don't have the storage space to download this anyway). Everything can be loaded to SolidWorks enabling anyone to attain exact measurements and all components to make any CNC bridge or gantry milling solutions. Their website will direct to your most conveniently located supply shop that cuts, and packs anything u can dream up.
Did Avid Cnc give you the cnc? Pretty sweet...Love what happened at 11:44 as it seems like no one ever shows mistakes...nice to know your human. Pretty funny..
Bruce A. Ulrich Izzy Swan and Modustrial Maker are the two that jump to mind, but there’s been a couple more that I e seen that I can’t remember off hand. I’m not knocking it, by any stretch. I’m glad these folks are getting cool gear and showing what can be done. Gives ideas and inspires.
I’m still going to have my X-Carve, actually the X-Carve Pro! Inventables is great and I plan to continue to use both so I can give folks my thoughts on both machines.
Crafted Workshop That’s awesome! It’s just funny to see waves of new tools make their way around the ‘verse. There’s almost an archeological aspect to it. There’s distinct eras and epoch of crafting/making/building you notice, whether it’s a tool that folks start using or a version of a jig that everyone starts making or something similar. Either way, love the channel and your builds. Some of my very favorites, and I greatly look forward to seeing what you do with the Avid!
Dude this is one sick as heck CNC MACHINE.. I had to use caps bcos it blew me away watching this video bro.. How much does one of these bad boys set me back if I want to get one and do AVID do a smaller version like a 4'x4' or something like that. My shop is only 16x10 feet so I don't have the space. I'm in the midst of getting ready to take a shot at building my own DIY CNC Router. I wish I'd just bought one outa the box but now I've spent the money on all the bits and bobs I'm going to have to build it soon. I'm a newbie, complete newbie to CNC machines and the electronics is scaring the hell outa me bro.. How much does one of these big CNC's set me back if I want to get one?? Please tell us the price so I can look to rainignthe money ASAP?? I hate going into these sites bcos u can never just find the price.. U have to enquire about the cost and I hate that so if u don't mind could u let me know what it costs for one of these bad boys.. Is the software really that simple? I have already got some great ideas from ur X & Z Axis on the mounting side of things.. The aluminium ios awesome on this Avid machine too btw.. Salute from IRELAND!
My dad has built the electronics for industrial CNC routers for 25 years. We're talking double gantry 50 by 30ft CNC routers and 100ft by 20ft 3D printers with a CNC cutting gantry on the same machine. I've never used a CNC in my life. TH-camrs have them in their home shops. 😓😂
Just spent the last week troubleshooting electronic malfunctions on my 20+ year old machine. This looks like a good next step -Avid. Good tip with the locktite. Is it possible to rotate the controller 90 degrees so that you can see the ports?
All the prices are on AVID's website linked above - over $15K with the accessories ($5K is without stepper electronics, spindle & VFD, vacuum hold-downs, zero-plate, tramming plate, etc.) Nice set-up!! Way snazzier and more functional than my ShopBot(s), a bit jealous, but...
Hi, maybe stupid question but would it be possible to fit the pro4896 in a tight space so the only access is from one lenght side. Or do you need access to all around the machine
5:50 I wouldn't say it's perfectly aligned along the whole rail.. In this case, I would put the jig at shorter distances and gradually. This way it can be slightly off in the middle, however nice documentation ;)
I was thinking the same. If its hiwin it can be off by 0,04mm per m. I bought chinese knock off rail and trust me it takes me 5 days to mount it with 0,08mm over 3 meters. The center which is 1,5m is still has 0,02mm though
Hey Johnny I just purchased your River resin bed frame plans, looking forward to the build. I’m also very curious how your workflows will performe with this new CNC, Avid looks like the biggest bang for the dollar, but with the vacuum, still a good chunk money.
Damn, I want a CNC soooooo badly, but I don't have room for the size I want and couldn't afford to pay for it if I did. Mabey one day I'll have to try to find a spot for a smaller one..... that would be nice 😊 It's really cool to see you getting one and I'm looking forward to how you've set up your vacuum hold down system which looks really good. Keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍
eventually you gantry is going to warp. the aluminum is not strong enough to hold the 80 plus pounds you have for spindle plus support and axis plates. you need to run steel bar from within the extrusion
Hey man i know this is an old video but did you have any issues with your liner rails on the sides binding the bearings at the seams? One side of my machine the rails have a really noticable bump as they pass over the seams actually stopping the bearing when i move them by hand
Super jealous of the CNC. Great setup.
I had to smile when I saw the clamps get cut. I've had so many of those moments on my smaller CNC that its nice to know I'm not the only one!
Congrats on checking that off your bucket list. You’re living my dream.
Seeing a woodworker squaring a CNC with a measuring tape. I got the chills.
What's the correct way
@@Z-add calipers

This. As a CNC machinist I can confirm

It's really awesome to see how effortlessly you mix and match installing your new CNC machine.
Awesome machine and super excited to see more videos of it. I love both CNC production videos and also the assembly/maintenance/upgrade videos.
Thanks Matt!
This is an interesting way to setup the geometry of the machine. How about a caliper instead of a measuring tape? For trimming the spindle you usually use a dial gauge.
Thanks for replying on Grabcad! Now I see this vid I remembering it. But didn’t know it belongs to you! 👍🏻
Literally started watching your videos today, and you're the most skilled human being i've ever seen
Seriously.
Can’t wait to see the vacuum hold down system.
Same! I think it's worth half the cost of the actual CNC
Love these CNC machines, the vacuum hold looks interesting
Not really. Vacuum hold is only okay for sign work.
Give me T Slots or give me DEATH !
blows my mind how amazing this is
A CNC like this is a freakin dream! I'm hoping to be building one of these one day on my channel!
What a gorgeous cnc. The red color seems to be your favourite and I do have to say that the red color really matches with you man . What a great video. Now I am going forward to build this cnc machine in the future thanks to your tutorial
About 13 weeks and I will have my 5x10. Looking forward to it.
Would absolutely love to see how you did your Vacuum table work-holding system. Looking forward to that video very much.
Could you do a video of a arts list in everything you had to buy from avid to get this machine up and running
WOW man i wish i have just a shop like this.. i will sleep there all days ^^
It’s a Beast. Looking forward to seeing your future updates
That’s impressive piece of kit. The quality is there to see.
Very easy subscribe with this level of content, really detailed footage of how it works and is put together, thank you
Congrats on the machine! I’m jealous! Nice video pace for assembly. I would definitely refer to this video
What an amazingly beautiful assembly process.
Thank you for the video? What are power requirements for this system? Volts? Amps? Circuit Breaker? Phase?
Congrats on the new machine.

well, its essentially aluminum extrusion as you say so why not buy the profiles and have a go for it
This was seriously fun to watch! Love your process and videos. Can't wait for the next one!
Man, that thing is a beast! Can't wait to see what you make with it!
I need one of these as a retirement money making income toy
This is a very high quality kit. Attention to detail is top notch. The only thing I did not like was the cut in half Y axis. I think at this quality level the owners would not mind the extra shipping cost of the longer rails.
Very impressive machine. This was a fun one to watch. Congrats man!
I’m super pumped to put it to use! Thanks
Q: You use a gear rack for movement - Not anti backlash leading screw - how do you deal with the backlash in CNC ?
Now that is one hell of a CNC machine! Not in my wood working future but I can't wait to see what you make with it....👍

That a great looking CNC Router.
Nice video man! Keep it up!
Classic first cut!
Awesome video. Your shop looks so nice.
Now that's a CNC router .
Super impressive machine, can't wait to see your products...
@11:43 that's called the full depth spindle test. Luckily you ran through the plastic parts of those clamps haha.
Excellent video preperation..
Would you think a common cordless drill, like the Milwaukee M12 drill, will be sufficient for your cordless ratchet?
Wow, thank you for this video!
No problem!
Great video! Thank you. I'm wanting to get into CNC for a potential retirement gig down the road. I love your setup!!!

I have the exact same config coming in a few months. Just ordered. Guessing August. The waiting sucksssss.
3:00 I believe those are knee braces. Gussets are triangular shaped webbing.
Poor Clamps died a violent death!...thanks for the video, based upon my space, i am in the process of deciding what size table i want to buy.
Lego for big kids, excellent video.
What’s the total cost and power requirements? Does the dust collection seem undersized for the CNC?
Does that ratchet tool have a torque setting? How did you know you weren't stripping the aluminum threads?
Perfect.Thank you for this video ❤️
AVID out to kick all the Inventables X-Carves out of content creators' channels. Haha. Nice upgrade!

How much did you pay for this machine again??
The Plane Boss.. The Plane!
Huge fan of the AVID! hoping to get my hands on a similar setup in the future.
awsome machine, can i ask how much u spend on it? and is there a guide to build it?

You can get a small CNC for less than most cabinet saws, so it’s really not much of a stretch.
Can this cnc (with its gear rack mechanism) mill aluminum? What about steel?
I needed to assemble a cnc machine
If possible, what are the parts and motors required?
