Have you watched Marble hornets?
Marble Hornets started all this, and in marble hornets the constant recording was due to Slendyboi causing his victims rampant, insatiable, uncontrollable paranoia any time the camera is off (side note: when the camera is ON, he can also track you somehow). Probably a combination of a direct effect of slendy himself, plus the fact that he, you know, can delete your memories somehow.
The game was based off the old web series Marble Hornets. It supposed to be that Slender Man makes you forget him when you see him so they begin filming everything do to how paranoid they become. Something like that

Theory of a sequel of Slender
Slender: Trails
Following the story of Lauren after she has gone missing for 8 years her husband, sets off to find her and clues locating to the abandoned hillside which is the Oakside Park where his wife's family home is. Upon his discovery, there were notes with the same handwritten of Lauren. It leads to the lake but as soon as he discovers foot tracks of someone, he knows now he is not alone. He then finds 24 pages around the burnt down forest that leads to the Radio Tower. After collecting all pages, he found himself locked on the tower and discovered a pre-recorded tape and finds out that it is Lauren's camera. A loud banging from the door starts to grow louder and he escapes right behind the burnt corpse's wall. There are two individuals chasing him. The cracked wall actually leads to an abandoned town and he uses the car noises, to attract them away from location sites where the lead of items to destroy the chains locking the gates to a warehouse, while tossing pebbles at the cars.
After locking the large gate with huge padlocks, as soon as he drops the key, it was grabbed by one of the individuals from outside as it snoops its hands in. The same tall man appears outside with the individuals beside him and starts to move to where he is. To escape the warehouse, he must start the truck with 4 fuel canisters and fix the wires. It took him forever but luckily, he escaped.
As he drives fast, the fog starts to envelop his surroundings and leads him to where he started, and destroyed Lauren's family home.
As he wakes up, he sees a glimpse of his wife caressing his head and as she starts to mutter saying "wake up", her face turns distorted and he wakes up to a burnt down house that is nearly destroyed. He found himself on the tunnels below and discovers a secret passage that must've been built centuries ago. He also finds out secrets about the tall man who was with the two individuals following his orders. The tall man is referred as the Master and the ones following him are his Servants. Story leads to a mansion that was built here 25 years from the past according to the letter, and the Mathersons were among the 8 families that burned down the mansion for abducting their children to be used as slaves and sometimes cannibalised them. In the final letter, where a coffin is discovered, it is a letter from Lauren who tells his beloved that he will one day come rescue her but it is too late for her to be saved and the only way out is to burn the coffin within where the tall man is lying and he must find the last fuel canister all the way back from his truck to Lauren's family home and burn the coffin.
After being tailed by the two "servants" of the tall man, he successfully burns the coffin and ends the tyranny of the tall man. The two individuals soul were also vanquished and their bodies became dusts.
As he leaves the Mathersons home, there in front of him was Lauren, now in a decaying form and she became even more grotesque as she sprung long arms and legs and black tentacles came out behind her, binding him around and a note stating
"I FOUND YOU"
- appears at the end of the screen, pertaining that SLENDER has finally chosen a new host and captured his servant for himself, using Lauren's body to lure him to him.
And so, ends the series.
The easter egss are the following:
1. Carl Ross's side stories on the toolshed and the destroyed video-player. Behind it is the past letters of him after hiding for 2 weeks in the toolshed until Kate finds him and they escaped together.
2. You can use the shovel to dig out the corpses of the Mathersons and discover a recorded tape of the family and appearances of Slenderman in every scenes. At the end of the video, the Charles is behind you and a game over message says "NO WAY OUT".
3. On the lakeside, there is a small shed and you will find details of a graffiti about zombies, as it refers L4D2.
4. You can spot a deer with a white mask and if you stare at it for 10 minutes, it distorts the camera and the deer vanishes. As you turn around, Slenderman, Kate and Charles are there and a game over message saying "YOU FOOL" is written.
5. You can actually see Lauren by the glimpse of the screen and vanishes as you turn around, indicating that Lauren is somewhat following you before becoming Slenderman herself.
6. Lauren's hands is wrapped around your during the truck escaping scene, telling that she is already close to you.
7. You can hear the transmission of the radio tower telling "HE IS THE ONLY SALVATION" with a distorted audio and deep voice. It is actually a low-pitched recording of Lauren that means that she already sided with Slenderman and nearly becoming the new host.
8. The time the camera is nearly broken near the end of the game, the crack is written as "IM HERE" telling the player that she is already here beside the player.
9. Visiting 8 abandoned homes including Lauren's home and Matherson's will unlock a secret passage at the underground tunnels and discovers th3 actual room of the Slenderman and a demonic circle before becoming a monster himself. Walking and staying at the circle summons black tentacles and captures the player, and a game over message tells "FRESH NEW BODY" indicating that the Slenderman has found a new host.
10. Above all, there is actually a laptop beside the driver's seat in which you can access files about pictures of Lauren and the husband, and zooming behind is actually a tiny figure which is the Slenderman. It tells that Lauren is being lured by Slenderman to go back to the Oakside Park and become either his new servant/proxy, or his new host.
11. Staying at your car for 20 minutes leads to a horrible ending in which Kate is there and kills him, and a game over screen tells "SATISFIED?" is there telling the players if they are satisfied for wasting their time not playing the game they made for a long time. And a jumpscare of Slenderman's distortion just to annoy the player even more.
12. You can go back to your car after a letter of Lauren telling her husband to get the fuel canister from the truck he drove. If you leave using the car, Lauren will be waiting for you and kills your right away, and the game will crash. Then if you start the game again, the menu screen texts like NEW GAME, or CONTINUE becomes a text written as YOUR FAULT. Just clicking that text will jumpscare the player with a distorted fave of Lauren and crashes the game again. Going back to start the game again, the recent saved file and auto-saved game is now gone, forcing you to start the game all over again, teaching you that you must end the game for real and not be a coward

I’d imagine there’s an alternate timeline where after Lauren sees the state Kate’s house is in, turns back and gets out of there.
Also when I looked up the plot for this game they say that Lauren could’ve survived being attack by Kate and may have knock Kate out and taken her away

Meaning that he could be a lower level entity like a simple ghost with a corporeal form or an Eldritch abomination like cthulu. Siren Head however has a canon strength and speed. That's more than slendy has. He's either piss poor in a fight or he'll stomp, we do not know.

I remember my best friend and I played through the game when she was on Discord and would share her screen with me while she played. We took screenshot after screenshot of those hidden levels with CR and tried to piece the story as best as we could until we eventually cut ties.
This really reminds me of those good times, thank you ❤️

My favorite memory is when I was given the controller at my friends house cause we were taking turns after we die and accidentally speed running the game.
We all had a good laugh when I managed to glitch past Charlie on the stairs by running into him a bunch only to be met with an empty room. Turns out you have to trigger an event for the ending to happen

I played the Eight Pages stage and decided to be cheeky and glitch outside the map, not knowing that there is a countermeasure coded into the game. I was unsettled by the text that appeared: "Not even a bug in the game can save you from me." And was straight up paralyzed after the Jumpscare.
BTW, I recently picked up the game on my PS4 and the secret level in the prologue is in the console release. If you don't already know the process, I'll give you the TL;DR
This process is done twice to trigger the secret stage.
Get to Kate's house. Trigger the swing set dialogue. Grab the flashlight and turn on the radio. Finally, go over to the Charles Matheson Jr Missing Poster but don't pick it up.
You'll be given a dialogue prompt saying: "I should keep an eye out."
Once you've seen that dialogue, exit the stage and restart.
Go back to Kate's house and do the same thing again. But before you can reach the poster, you're stopped by Slenderman/Charlie.
I won't spoil what happens next if you haven't seen it, so go check it out yourself if you haven't already
You know when this game came, made by indie devs, it was astonishing for a game like it, it surprises me how it stills looks good for being a horror game after all these years and they even added one last content after release it's so unbelievable!

For blue isle studios flagship title, it was a great horror experience. They definitely improved their techniques with Valley, their next game, which also has 8 pages hidden within as well.
Fun fact: When in the burned house in the prologue you have the chance to get a picture of presumably Charlie's family flashed for a small bit.

You forgot the secret level that you can access by picking up the missing poster for the child when you get to the house (your house)
At the end of that secret level, it showed Charlie's face and Slenderman's face matching which made me believe that Charlie IS the Slenderman. 🤔

The memory where Charlie is captured by Slenderman led me to believe that he became the Slenderman, however I discovered that it was simply Slenderman's tendrils reached out to grab him and turn him into a proxy

Awesome analysis! After watching your playthrough, there were certain things you missed that I hoped you'd touch on in this video, and I'm glad to see that you did touch on them. While I've read other story theories about this game online, and while this video's story analysis is a very close match to how the story's described in said theories, you did mention a few other things that those theories I've read had missed out on, such as the Matheson-Hayes connection, the actual reason why Lauren was going to Kate's house in the first place, and that was satisfying (though I still did kinda hope that this story analysis would use CR's notes and such to describe a more cohesive description about what went on with Kate and CR before the events of the game took place).
Also, a couple of things I had realized while playing through the game that you didn't mention in this video:
- Charles Matheson's burnt letter in the Prologue says that he hears Charlie's "cute little laugh", and that's something the player hears as well, in the Homestead level. When we're in the cellar, where Charlie is lurking around, we can sometimes hear a child-like giggle hear and there, and this is another tie-in that Charlie is the skeletal figure (if players didn't catch on already).
- When the player heads to CR's burnt corpse in the dark tunnel, there can be a deep, heavy growling sound heard, along with echoing footsteps that sound like dress shoes walking on smooth stone. That is definitely the Slenderman pacing around.
- The note before entering the Kullman Mines that says the woods are beautiful and such, I don't believe was written by CR. That handwriting is much more messy, and written notes the player finds from him later show his handwriting in a more cleaner style. Plus, CR sounds like he would've been mentally unstable while writing it, and if he was such, then I doubt he'd be able to type his later emails without making a lot of typos. I think that aforementioned note before entering the mines was written by Charlie, while being controlled by the Slenderman, so essentially it's a message from the Slenderman. Why couldn't it have been CR being controlled by Slenderman? Because CR still had his sanity at the time, while Charlie had *zero* sanity, making him an easier vessel to manipulate.
All in all, though, great video! This game really is an amazing horror game and I'll always remember it fondly. :)

Late to reply,the note thing at the end of your comment could still have been written by CR.The game was inspired by a web series Marble Hornets,heck the people who worked on that series helped with the game.But in Marble Hornets they can go into zombie states that they are more aggressive and not their usual selves.Though can in fact leave that state and be their usual self.Meaning it still makes sense that CR wrote that letter but wasn’t himself when writing it.
@@alexhudson1528 Well, the game wasn't exactly *inspired* by it, per se. The cast of MarbleHornets did write the main storyline for the game, the main plot of the stuff that would happen, but that's about it. I doubt that that means that the world of Slender: The Arrival functions the same way as MarbleHornets does, right down to people going into zombie states.
And for that matter, I think that the only people in that series who could go into those zombie states are people who're under the influence of the Operator (looks like Slenderman, but technically isn't him, according to what I read). I don't think it's a state that anyone can just enter on a dime.
What was truly scary about Slenderman was that (before the eight pages came out and he skyrocketed into meme oblivion) he wasn't super well known, and what was there (marble hornets, everymanhybrid etc.) was incredibly chilling. It all built around the myth that the more you researched into it, the more likely he was to come after you. That shit was TERRIFYING to my 10-12 year old self.

Not gonna lie, the first time I saw this game play, and I believed the lost kid, Charles Matterson, was actually Slenderman. I assumed that the kid must have been in some sort of accident or became a SCP after being missing and turned into Slenderman. I do not remember the burnt down house with the skeletal figure, nor do I remember the side story of the matterson's family. I'm not sure if this was skipped over in the playthroughs I've seen or if it was added in during a certain update, cause i know sometimes these games can do that. Either way, it was cool to see a new ending, and it really shows how much of a threat Slenderman is that can never be taken lightenly and there may never be a way to stop him without taking your own life. But damn, this game was the best first person horror survival story of the early decade, i think we can all agree on that. Great review, and i hope you do more!

Marxist Gaming I mean, that’s what I first thought. A lot of people consider Slenderman as an scp, but he’s more of a cryptic character if anything. Though I still kind of wish they would have done the Charlie as Slenderman plot twist, especially the hidden level of the game you can do when you get the flashlight, turn on the radio, look at Slenderman through the window and go to the missing child poster then restart the game.

I think charlie being slenderman was the original idea, until Homestead, Memories and the Charlie Proxy were added in the 2.0 update, which changed the story, but they left the secret level in even though it isn't canon anymore.
If CR's messages were being controlled by the Slenderman and has been seeing visions, hearing things and passing out, could that mean CR was a proxy as well before he died?

I remember recreating the 8 Slender Pages, and coming up with a game for my next door neighbors and I to play, where one plays as Slender-Man, and the others have to track down the pages on a tree. It was a very broken game, and needless to say, the DLC and Update didn't come anytime soon.
Well, hopefully Slenderman is added to Monsters and Mortals and/or Dead By Daylight.

Slenderman would be too problematic legal-wise. If they put him in the game, I would say there is a 97% chance that they'll be entangled in a legal situation. As for Siren Head, he's too big.

Also Kate’s window was broken into because the glass was on the inside instead of the outside. So unless she was sleeping with a broken window someone shot, she would’ve been bleeding a lot
You forgot to mention that Kate being found with the papers was most likely the aftermath of eight pages and that one of the Matheson family members (forgot her name, probably Kelly) was the one who summoned slenderman out of curiosity about old tales her parents told her, unleashing the entity that then haunted all of them, making her try and burn everyone alive to end it. But, it turned out, Charles Matheson had survived, so he made those graves, and Slenderman continued to stalk him and his family.
when i first saw kate in her chaser form years years ago, i was afraid that she will come for me, now that you zoomed on her face i realysed that she is even more scarier than i knew before, like having burned face covered by white mask with holes showing her burned eyes and mouth, jesus D:

Fun fact : slender man is not a creepy pasta, he's actually an old German legend so children don't stay up late
Stay up late or go into wooded areas alone because back then people had a fear of the woods and tried to warn children of the dangers (snakes, bears, poison etc) by making them fear the woods. Like telling a child something bad will happen or "the boogieman will get you" if they didnt follow rules or misbehaved.

Got this game recently on sale. Huge part of my childhood, in like 5th grade me and my friends thought he was real lol, I wanted to relive the games for nostalgia purposes, I thought it was going to show it's age, I was very surprised to see that the game still holds up today. Still made me jump. We're Juniors now so it was pretty cool playing through Genesis after all these years.
it is worth mentioning that whenever you break a window, the shattered glass will ALWAYS fall towards the direction ahead of the impact, but for some reason, the shattered glass in kate's room was dropped inside the room, which could mean that the breakthrough was from outside to inside (need to check if there is shattered glass on the backyard to confirm my statement)

I think it would be really cool if you play as his murderer and Slenderman haunts you and then you are just so fed up with his guilt that you try to end Slenderman and in doing so it will kill you too. But hey that's just what I think.
I really miss those good old times when Slender Man was still popular. I watched Markiplier play every single Slender game, no matter how bad or same-y they were.
It's a shame that there hasn't been any new, recent Slender games made by any competent studios lately. I feel like there is a lot of untapped potential for a good, unique Slender game.
Something that tells a story through its environments and characters. Something with no cheap jumpscares, and instead has unnerving visuals and a creepy story.
Plus, with today's graphics, it'd look quite good.
And, since I'm learning to make music, I'd love to create a soundtrack for a Slender game!
They should of made a sequel instead of that shitty movie.

One thing to note.
SlenderDev actually wanted to make a third game in the Slenderman series, which would continue the story of The Arrival from the point we left off, but with a new protagonist. However, it seems like things didn't go too well between development teams and the original slenderman creator.
A true shame. This game is a gem, and i would've loved to see the continuation to this story. Really hoping this third game gets to see the light of day eventually.
Though, with SlenderDev seemingly vanishing from the internet, we can't be sure.

Just to clear things up. Lauren doesn't become a proxy at the end, she actually dies by Kate. So sadly she was killed. But I guess when slenderman is involved, noone is safe.

Mike, you did an amazing job with this slender explanation, like telling us what all of the encounters and game play scenes meant. i was too scared to watch the Slender the Arrival! I was hardly and barely watching the whole thing without getting jump scared from other spooky characters. My heart was pawning in fear and almost got myself a heart attach see a door closing by itself and when you turn around to see who what happened, Slenderman is right there in front of you! Even more frightening seen Slenderman's minions chasing you everywhere you go in the darkness. it makes you paralyse to go places abandoned all by yourself without having someone to support you in case if something happens to you!

From Slender the Arrival, I never understood how Slender made people go insane, maybe he's a bit more supernatural than just being able to teleport. He may be able to shift reality to his liking, along the way turn people into his little helpers who's main goal is to kill you and earn their freedom? But this is just an idea or a theory a game theory.

The reason why Lauren is helping Kate was because according to the PS4 store synopsis, Lauren is a realtor and was helping Kate find a buyer for the house.
I completed this game 3 years ago and was so scared and speedrunned the whole game and never understanded anything in the game thank you for this.
I really wish we got to now what happend to lauren, shes such an interesting charecter through out the game and her fate is somewhat unknown
Actually, scrubbing through the game files shows us that the model used for Lauren being dragged away in the ending is called (essentially) deadlauren or something like that. So it's heavily implied that Kate and Charlie killed her.

its the Genesis level, eight pages is happening while Lauren ( arrival protagonist ) arries there and comes, happening at the same time, when u open kate's room door and she screams u basically "finished" eight pages and got caught ( cuz u were supposed to )

What I love about this game and the original slender game is that there not just inspired by the urban legend on the internet but also have some inspirations with Marble Hornets and when you see it you can see how the pages the found footage thing in this game and also Kate is basically Masky and Hoodie combined
