Watching you just break branches while trying to bend them gives me a ton of confidence. It's like the old saying "No crying over spilt milk." Bend the branches and if they break just keep moving forward.
Mosten Times, when branches crack, they still keep on living. At least in my experience. My Fukien tea has the one or other cracked branch, and they are still green
This tree could make a lovely homage to the world's tallest known living tree, Hyperion, with those short branches tight to the trunk adding significant scale.

Ugh, this tree stressed me out! So many leaves falling off, practically just from breathing on it! If Peter can make anything of this thing, I will consider it a miracle.
This metasequoia would have lend itself perfect for the style of a giant redwood, perhaps cathedral. Because of the big straight trunk and the tiny leaves. Very nice species! I hope the cuttings will take.
Nice job. Agree very much with you on tertiary wiring. The number of iterations and style revisions I’ve done on trees over the years even amazes me. BTW your shirt is stunning. Obviously a gift from the new world. It’s a real gem. Looking forward to looking at the development of your cuttings. My success averages out at around 40 percent. Would love to see how the bonsai you have wired looks like a year later and how to maintain them? Maybe I’m impatient but it’s just that it would be great to see what I’m aiming to get after a year or two. I have never done a bonsai and you’ve definately inspired me to start.

Hello Peter. Have you ever tried bending a thick branch by cutting small ‘v’s’ in the branch to partially thin the branch locally so that you can bend it then wrap it in raffa and tape and wire to hold it. I saw a video once and wondered how successful it could be. When ever I see a video of yours when you walk round the nursery I am always amazed at the number of trees you have in development, how do you keep track of them all. Compliments of the season.

How can you see the difference between metasequoia and metasequoia pixie? Smaller leafs are easy to see when you have both next to each other. I only have one, probably the standard metasequoia! Greets from Belgium

I think I would work at Heron's for less than minimum wage. It would be worth it to have a job that I actually care about. Tending to nature, and creating beauty, sounds much more fulfilling than being a manager at a food store. 😂

Hi Peter, I hope your cuttings took from this tree. I've been trying to roots cuttings from ordinary redwoods all year. I think some took but I'm waiting until spring to start poking at them. When would be the best time to start an air layer in British and Irish climates?
Ive took some redwood cuttings in fall and put them in water first, I saw them rooting. Have potted them up. Airlayer is best time in spring when the buds open (sending hormones to the roots)

Hey. New subscriber here. Recently got into bonsai and currently trying to grow a black pine from seed. Left in fridge for 3 weeks and now put onto the window seal to get some sunlight. Should i leave it in the fridge for longer? I'd love to come visit your nursery if that's allowed.
Most winter nights are between minus 2 or 3 to plus 5 C. The coldest it gets is around minus 8 C maybe once every five years - but it is only for a few hours at night.
It has a less pretty name in America and is called sweetgum. It grows here in the warm more humid areas and down into Mexico. So I bet it work for you. Where I live we don't have them, but apparently their seed shells are considered a danger and messy. So you might want to look into that aspect, but they are very pretty.
I’m no expert either, but I do recall seeing this tree growing outside in one of Peter’s previous videos. In my limited experience Metasequoia branches break very easily.

The foliage looks exactly like, what I would call, a bald or swamp cypress. I love these trees! They are so vigorous.

Thank you - bad memory in my old age. The Japanese call this maple "Make-jaku" or peacocks tail because the shape of the leaf is like a peacocks tail.

it is a semi-deciduous species, so not abnormal..

I have successfully taken cuttings of metasequoia (although not Pixie) and I have found the secret to be maintaining a very high humidity
So you put em in water to get roots or direct in soil?

Tree might need more fertilizer or silica is a good nutrient so the branches don't break as easily.

Always metasequoia, it's the Latin name for the species.
