Two bfs from college and husbands came for a reunion. We celebrated their birthdays with this cake. Next morning we wanted cake with our coffee instead of breakfast. Next night elf's decorated the house for Christmas and we celebrated again. We'd only been together 3 or 4 times in 50 years since college. What a memorable weekend.

This Strawberry Cake my Mom made for the desert on Mother's Day on the farm as it was called our family gatherings my Grandparents were a farming family. The only difference Mom used a Strawberry Cake Mix for added strawberry flavor. Then she always had strawberry jello made to serve with the cake. Mom was always known for her delicious cakes,jellos, and her homemade ice tea. Her secret to her jello where it calls for chilled water use chilled pineapple juice instead and add alittle sugar stirred in the jello mixture as well as it starts to firm up Mom would add sweetened strawberry slices, some drained crushed pineapple,or drained Mandarin oranges, sliced banana slices now it will discolor some but if, the jello is ate within a 24 hour period banana slices are good stirred into the jello.
Hi Leslie, if you're out of toothpicks you can use a strand of spaghetti to test a cake. Just be careful not to break it. You can also use a strand of spaghetti to light your BBQ without burning your fingers.
I make a cake similar to this. I use strawberry pudding instead of gelatin. Sometimes instead of milk I will use Sprite.. The icing I use cream cheese, Cool Whip, confectioner's sugar, strawberries and a splash of vanilla.

I wonder if you may have mixed up the amount of oil for the amount of milk, when I've used, box cake mixes, it's always half a cup of oil, and I'll use one cup of milk 🤔
Wonder if refrigerating the icing separately would help? That way the cake could cool over night and you could ice it the next morning. Do you think that would work? Or would the icing be too stiff? I have my cake in the oven now. Thanks!
I'm telling you we are so much alike. Oh and you can leave the purple onions out of the cucumbers and vinegar or use another onion. I only use a purple onion for looks and it kinda pickles them so they are not as strong.
Oh man. I made the cake and my oven turned off some how. I turned it back on and then burnt the cake. My hubby said make me a list and I’ll go rebuy the ingredients. Let’s hope this time it turns out better.🤪

I rewatched it several times and no egg shell went in. I believe what you saw was a light reflection in the white of the egg. I always watch very carefully for shells if I break straight into the mixture.

You can try it but it may be a little much on the Strawberry flavor. I've always used a white cake mix.

yes you can use to much juice...be careful or your icing will be to thin.
FYI I use thin spaghetti works great!
