I’m enjoying learning about sloats, as I’ve never seen any. As they mature they remind me of otters. I must admit that I’m missing not seeing Robert as much in person in this documentary. He just adds something special that I didn’t realize as much until you don’t see him in person while filming this documentary. As always, thank you for sharing this rare glimpse into the world of having a nursery of 8 active and mischievous sloats. 😅

I am currently raising a baby stoat that was brought home to a lady by her cat, it was about 2 days old and she advertized for someone to help her. I have raised many baby racoons, squirrels and baby birds and this is my first time raising a stoat. This baby was the size of my index finger, blind and deaf . I have learned so much about these little creatures. I call it wheezy and she is now almost five weeks old and her fur is beginning to come in, she feels like a warm piece of soft velvet. Her eyes opened about a week ago and she is so cute and playful. I didnt realize she needed meat as soon as her teeth came in but at 3 weeks she was mowing down chicken and beef (raw) and has grown alot. I can now relax and catch up on some sleep as she no longer wants milk even though i have tried several times to give it to her after she has eat her chicken. She now drinks water out of a small dish and coughs and snorts as she is still a little clumsy. This has been a lovely experience for me and my family enjoys watching her play and grow. To be a mother to these orphaned babies takes alot of dedication so if you are someone who is too lazy to do several night feedings and you have a forest baby give it to someone who can care for it properly.
