I looked up how to dye with elderberries. You have to mix the berries with vinegar, smash them up in it, bring it to a boil and then transfer the liquid to a bowl. Leave your shirt in the bowl over night and the next day take it out and hang it on the line to dry. It says you can do this with elderberry bark and leaves as well. Great family video today. Loved seeing Skye and Nicola doing their white water rafting, looked like they got some good instruction as well. Thank you for the Q & A at the end. Ciao
I'm so glad you went back for the elderberries and made jam! I make an elderberry syrup for medicinal purposes, it helps me greatly with respiratory ills. Since I started using it 2 years ago, I might get a little sniffle, but I would usually get an upper respiratory infection and even pneumonia. I take a teaspoon daily starting in the fall and if I feel like I'm getting sick I take it several times a day. If you know anyone that has respiratory problems or gets sick occasionally, I highly recommend it. I'm not a doctor, so please do your research and find out what's right for you. Thanks for sharing Nicki! I bet that jam is delish!

Elderberries... fabulous for the immune system, especially viruses! I usually hold the stalk, berries down over and run a fork through to push the berries off into a bowl. It looks like heaven on earth there. Enjoy. x

Nikki re your gas ring. I have a diffuser which goes on top of the ring, and reduces the heat. I bought it from my local hardware/kitchen store.I'm sure you would be able to buy on line. I loved your attempt to tie dye your t-shirt! I would’ve tried the same thing LOL. And the elderberry jam - YUM! It has a unique taste for sure. It’s AMAZING on savory items such as lemon or blueberry scones, which has more “scone” than sweet fruit so the elderberry is perfect. Try it! 😎♥️
Elderberries do indeed make a short-lived dye if not prepared with a mordant. Adding vinegar to the solution will produce a pretty vibrant purplish dye. Soaking the fabric in a mordant before dying, such as alum, will ensure that the dye sets and will be permanent. There are other types of mordants, and each affects the resulting color in a different way.
I dye clothes but use packaged dyes. I wet the clothes first then wring out and add to boiling hot water and rinse with cold water and a little vinegar to set the color.
It was interesting to see you making elderberry Jam since I’ve been drinking elderberry tea all week while quarantined in my room recuperating from Covid. Your tiny house is lovely ❤️. Dont give up on that t-shirt yet, try the cut and weave on sections or braid into a rag rug. I just did one out of an old fluffy dressing gown, old jeans/school trousers and tshirts. It's all braiding and a bit of handsewing, very therapeutic and ideal for fabrics past upcycling, especially old jumpers. That rafting looked amazing! All the best and thanks for your videos 💜

We have Elderberry Gummies in Texas and I take them daily for Respiratory Immune Supplement. They are sweet as candy and a yummy treat too!

The berries look fantastic. That's nice to can them. The beach in this video looked empty☹️ but the umbrellas and the chair's looked pretty. Nice to see more people walking about. Your tiny house is lovely ❤️. Dont give up on that t-shirt yet, try the cut and weave on sections or braid into a rag rug. I just did one out of an old fluffy dressing gown, old jeans/school trousers and tshirts. It's all braiding and a bit of handsewing, very therapeutic and ideal for fabrics past upcycling, especially old jumpers. That rafting looked amazing! All the best and thanks for your videos 💜
