True. Why can't TM Krishna start a carnatic music university for free and give 100% reservation / scholarship and give opportunities in his concerts to under represented and less privileged people instead of doing only lip service. Action speaks louder than words.
Well carnatic music university is very capital intensive and needs business acumen so hence tm Krishna might not tick all boxes. What's in his capacity to do is branding them in a socially inclusive way. He has done a fantastic job of singing songs like poramboku, or the ones with Muslim hymns/ songs on sanitation workers. Now the beautiful carnatic music is democratised. No one in India has sung music for sanitation worked and they embrace it more than ever. I wont be surprised if their children grow up wanting to learn carnatic music.❤️
Lol. He's the scion of the TTK Family. The Music Academy is literally his real estate property. There's nothing that prevented him from setting up a small school. Each and every accompaniying artist of his has been a Brahmin.

If TMK is so revolutionary, why does he not encourage his "pakka vadiyam" artists coming from the non-brahmin community. Also, Dr. Balraj Balasubramanian is an excellent carnatic musician sought after worldwide. He heads the musicology department at the renowned Wesleyan University, and he is not a brahmin. His students come from American/non-american communities. They are one of the top performers at the famous Cleveland aaradhana. If you hear white Americans singing, even you and I won't have that kind of perfection. They are not brahmins..so as all artists, those boycotting this, has total justification of their views. Big shoutout to everyone for standing up for the values and beliefs and voicing it openly.

No award is equal to Yesudas's talent. Even actor Nagesh never got a National award. Does that mean Nagesh was not a good actor? Yesudas ji has his diehard fans. His Fandom speaks of his talent. No award is good enough for Yesudas ji. If music academy does not give yesudas ji an award, then it is their loss not Yesudas ji's loss.
Every year Yesudas performs to full house in Academy and other sabhas. Thats the recognition

TMK started well as a musician, but soon audiences realised that he will not try singing difficult pieces or ragas. I.m.o., he made political statements, posing as a 'reformer', mainly to hide his limitations as a musician. A few concerts I attended of his, he changed the traditional format to 'appear as a revolutionary', the same way KarunaNidhi named his son, 'Stalin', a mistaken notion of wanting to be accepted as a 'revolutionary'.
I attended a concert TMK did with another well known musician. TMK showed his egotism in trying 'one upmanship' against the other musician by cutting him off as the other musician was about to take the Alapana further. I believe it was the last time TMK worked with the other musician!
I attended a few more concerts of TMK where the music was 'so-so' but a white lady was doing the Tambura. Some stayed on.... but I left.
Your views are very correct . Though I am not a exponent of carnatic music but still I have listened many live concerts of many musicians of his age as well as younger than him highly talented as well as contributing to the society at large without any propaganda .

Carnatic music is universal and belongs to every Indian especially South Indians. It should not become a personal property of a few families. This art form was originally developed by the Non Brahmins of South India. M S Subbulakshmi its is non Brahmin Tamil Shanmugha Vadivu from Madurai. Purandadasa and Kanaka dasa too were non Brahmins.Let's not allow a handful to brand it or patent it as their private intellectual property. Kudos to TM Krishna for popularising the music to all have nots or those who cannot access it. Congratulations TM Krishna for bringing all sections of Hindus for unifying through carnatic music. TM Krishna recently had a concert overseas where he sang about humans clearing human waste… Had he sung it in front of politicians and administrators in countries where humans still carry out these tasks, it will probably get the officials to act on it! Why he sang it on stage in a country where this is not happening is beyond one’s comprehension.

This is totally true. Ilayaraja and SPB came out of extreme talent. They learned Carnatic music after they became famous. Show me other than these both how many of non Brahmins sing in the Sabas. I have experienced this discrimination for my daughter. I put her in Carnatic music (vocal) and Bharatanatyam. In both they told she is not good in front of the kid so that their confidence is thrashed and they don’t ever try to learn it. Today she is playing drums and learning western vocal. If she does not have music sense how can she learn the same. Today AR Rahman one of the great musician ask him where he learnt ? Though music never belonged to them there is proof who started Bharatnatyam and today the nattu pura Padal these guys can’t even try it. Ask these guys to sing kanda vara Chulunga they cannot. Everything was artificially propogandad as the only best thing by these people only.

Chithur subramania pillai rajamanickam pillai madurai somu and many more vidwans of non Brahmin communities were honoured in music academy. TM krishna is also being honoured. There were many stalwarts of Brahmin community like md ramanathan ramnad krishnan et al were not honoured by music academy conferring the sangeetha kalanidhi award though they very much deserved it.

If you think truth is on side, think again. Reform happens when someone is ready to take some brickbats. I am a Brahmin and I tell you that we must understand that there is cast dominance in the field. Yes, there are a few exceptions but it is very difficult to gain traction in the Carnatic music industry unless you have all the ‘credentials’. Don’t shoot the messenger, pay attention to the message. The messenger may be flawed but his message is right on.

It's a fact that brahmins are dominating the carnatic music. I am a brahmin and I am also music teacher. But people who belong to other communities are not being supported by brahmins in music field.
What about MS, MLV, Madurai Somu, Kumbakonam Rajamanickam Pillai, Chowdiah, Nadaswaram Rajarathnam Pillai, Kadri Gopalnath, Yesudas, Shaik Chinna Moulana Sahib ? Are they not respected by Brahmins for their talents ? Brahmins don't see caste in carnatic music. They see only talent. I am also a Carnatic music rasika. Since Brahmins as a community is greatly attached to Carnatic music due to its bhakti bhava you can find carnatic music learner in every Brahmin family. That's why they outnumber other communities in this field. T.M. Krishna's remarks are blatant lie and unwarranted. He should not bring social reforms in an otherwise purely bhakti related art. Such attempts should be confined to cinema. It doesn't augur well for carnatic music and such attempts will destroy the purity of Carnatic music which is a divine art. It is totally different from other art forms.
