    I found the Ba Le Well (Gieng Ba Le) most interesting in that you report that it dates to the 8th-9th century. That makes it dating to the height of the Indrapura period of the Champa "kingdom" of Amaravati. I am a Champa specialist and most interested in Cham irrigation technology, which was one of the subjects of my 1972 M.A. thesis that reconstructed the economy of Ancient Champa. There are probably other Cham wells in Hoi An and surrouding villages in Quang Nam province.Thanks for including this in your tour of Hoi An.

    French invented the baguette but the vietnamese put baguette on the map. French colonized many countries, but none of them popularizing baguette except for one country: vietnam.

    • @Invictus888
      @Invictus888 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Nope....the very best baguette is in Laos.....I live in Vietnam. There are thousands of French living in Laos

      It's easy to find baguettes in French former Arab colonies

    • @Invictus888
      @Invictus888 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Lanla Colan Nope...the present form for Vietnamese was invented by a French priest but partly based on Portuguese letters because of tonal differences. The Vietnamese themselves credit Alexandre de Rhodes for the way the Vietnamese write today. Prior to that, the Vietnamese wrote in Chinese.

    • @DanKann86
      @DanKann86 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Invictus888 I would not say one is better than the other, even those from France. The baguette in Vietnam is not the same as in France. It is especially made to be more airy and crispier on the outside and also with rice added. This to make the baguette better suited for use in local dishes (banh mi sandwich, spiced beef stew, breakfast with eggs/meat). The type of baguette used in the banh mi is just right. The extra crispiness and less thick dough is preferred with various choice of fillings and seasonings.

    I'm on quarantine and I've sort of fell into a Vietnam travel vlog rabbit hole the last few days.

    This Hoi An, Danang, and Bana Hill are the most interesting places to visit. Lots of decent ancient places and fascinating with colorful lanterns to attract foreigners to visit. Most of the people there are friendly and helpful, especially with local foods. Those people have never been there should go and take a walk there with a partner or friends.

    Very cool that you visited the famous Hoi An well used to make Cau Lao noodles. It's my favorite dish in all of Vietnam! On my second trip this Jan, I also decided to make it different by using a bike, loved it and am doing it again in Feb! Do you have an address of that well? Have you ever brought home the dry (actual drier, but not completely dry) Cau Lao noodles? Wondering how long I can travel with those noodles before they get moldy or spoil.

    • @IntAffair
      @IntAffair  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you 🙏🏼 Not sure of the exact address but if you Google map where the "Bale restaurant" is, you can find signs nearby to point you in the right direction!
      We've never tried taking any noodles back. There's a certain beauty/intrigue of only being able to eat it there 😃

    • @magicbobNJ
      @magicbobNJ 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IntAffair I didn't think of it on my first trip, but when I found it impossible to find Cau Lao in the NYC metro area, I decided to make it my mission. I mean, it's a long trip to go just
      for lunch, isn't it? :-). So in Jan I was taught by a local how to make it - we started at the Hoi An market then went on her motorbike to the rural area of Hoi An to cook it. I was told
      on TripAdvisor I could buy the dry noodles in Hoi An, and thought they'd be dry like our boxed pasta is in the US. But no, it's still oily.
      What's your favorite Vietnamese dish, and why? Are you still in Hoi An, or Vietnam? When do you leave?

I've heard of multiple bus loads of Chinese tourists getting dumped at main areas all at the same time. I think after seeing the footage that it's crowded like Disney World but doable. "Pimp-slaps my taste buds" . I love that. I really enjoy watching your videos as we are about to take some friends from Colorado on a tour of northern VN, Ninh Binh, Ha Long Bay, DaNang, Hue, the central highlands and then here on the Mekong Delta. Your videos are creative, skillfully edited and fun to watch. Thanks!

    Hey guys, thanks for all the tips, we have used quite a few so far in Vietnam. In Hoi An, is the Cao lau place on the east or west of the old town? we couldn't make it out on the video as it all look so illuminated and pretty at night. Keep the videos coming I am sure we'll take some inspo for our next travel 😉

    I notice you biking around Hoi An, and in other videos traveling by motor scooter. Back in the U.S.A., if you leave a bike unattended for more then ten minutes in a busy town, it will be stolen, but I notice most parked bikes do not appear to have bike locks or chains. Is it safe to just leave you bike unlocked?
