Hey Gayle, MCMLIII is 1953. Fun Haul.
The dresses in the Aldens catalog were what my mom and aunt wore. I was born in 1960 and growing up I remember them and my mom also wore metal rimmed cat eye glasses. She’s nearing 80 and now wears contacts. I love looking at old pictures and home movies seeing her and her late sister. Those were the “good” old days.
I was born in 1960 also!!! Great year!!! Ha. I loved looking at the Alden’s catalog!!!!
Oh my, I love the store catalog. The year I was born. Made me want to go back to those years when clothing seemed so much prettier and things were more simple than it is today.
What a fun thing to enjoy with your granddaughters. I love all the treasures you found too.

I so enjoyed your Antique shopping finds. I remember looking through my Grandma's old catalogs when I was a little girl and I loved seeing the one you found. I also loved the Betty Crocker's cookbook. I have one of those exact ones in my cookbook collection. It is the version my mom and Grandma always used, so it has sentimental value to me. You are giving me antique mall fever. Thanks for the share.

This is one of my fav things to do as well..I just picked up about 8b antique books the other day and they are fantastic..old piano book from 1940, readers digest, old poem book from1930 and I just had a ball!! great finds, Gayle!! I NEEEED THAT ALDENS CATALOG LOL I ADORE IT SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!

Oh, I love these!! that magazine is definately scan worthy!! I need to find one of those recipie binders someday for all the family goodies. (if I can get them back) tyfs!

I want that catalog! I hope I can get it :), My Mom got that Betty Crocker cookbook as a wedding gift. She still uses it, I have been looking through it and snapping pics of her handwritten recipes that she has tucked in it.
That Betty Crocker is the cookbook I grew up with! I still use it once in a while.

I like them all. Especially the recipe and cookbook. And so nice to see the clothes catalogue. Sometimes It's only fun to look trough them.

Oh Gayle!!! What awesome finds!!! I loved everything but that Alden’s catalog just brought back wonderful memories!!! I used to sit and thumb through that catalog for hours on end!!!! I was born in 1960 and I remember my Mom wearing those outfits!!! Just awesome!!!!
Awesome haul, there! You’re going to be busy! I went to an auction on Sunday and came away happy, too. This time of year is invigorating, waiting for garage sales and estate sales! It adds a little skip to my walk!

I have just had to put myself into antique book therapy and learn to say NO. I would have most certainly walked out with that Aldens catalogue though. My resolve would have melted for sure. Great fun Gayle

That was so fun! You know I just can’t resist vintage books and I have way too many! It’s so hard to pare down down!
Funny cake is delicious. Here is Pennsylvania it is like a pie. Sort of with a vanilla cake top with a chocolate syrup type bottom. Done in a pie shell. I love it. I haven't converted my recipe to a gluten free recipe so I haven't had it in years. I do need the carbs anyway!

The Nancy Drew book was a great find. I have found an old ND book like that and a Hardy Boys one as well. I think they are first editions so be careful about listing them. They may be worth more.

A little tip - if you enter the Roman numerals into Google or any search engine, it will convert the date for you.
You should keep the Alden's catalogue for ephemera making. It is awesome to have those in your own stash as many of the items in them have some link to some of your themes. For example , most people dressed to the nines to go out to attend events like the circus...farmers had to wear something etc etc
I have struggled at times to keep my stash of paper manageable but when you work with paper in art those things are important tools.
The colors are beautiful. I wiuld love to go into a store like this but if i dont ill pick up another cost lol
Especially cuz im not at that point of flipping it. But i totally love what you do.

Right before you said it, i thought "make a receipt digi!!" lol a page or two from the 1st book-Mother Goose book would have been cute for double digit baby book. and that Alden catalog! the prices!!! and styles-wow! great finds Gayle. i have an Antique mall nearby and went this weekend. got my very first Edith Holden"Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady" (1977) i was SO excited!! i only learned of her after i started following your channel 👍 not sure if i can "use" it for crafting.....it's so beautiful. tfs your treasures with us.

Great Haul! Gayle, do you have recommendations of brands of scrapbooking paper that doesn’t crack when folded? Or other papers that are good for journaling. I’m new at making journals, but love making signatures, but having trouble with my papers coming apart.
Wet the crease area a little before folding. That should help! ❤️
Fun to see what you got. Thinking about the roman numbers. All schoolchildren in Sweden learn that doesn’t you/the kids in US do? Have heard lots of US people that dosen’t know?

I always have to pick up the 3 ring binder cookbooks...my husband has asked the same thing. They just don't get it...we can't pass them up! We may never find another one. Haha!
Love love love it all !! How do you know what you can use to make a “DIgi” ? Is there an expiration year for the copyright dates so that you can scan it for digis after that or make copies to use in journals you make and re-sell ??
I’m not an expert on copyrights at all. You may want to search copyright on You Tube. I think Lindsey Zenor has a video on it that might help you. ❤️

I have a serious problem with buying books to use and then not having the heart to tear pages out! Does this happen to you Gail or anyone else here? And if so, how do you deal with it.....

Yes, I think about all the wonderful things I could do with them, but when it comes time to tear out pages, Ijust love the books so much I don't want to tear them up. I have multiples of a bunch of Edith Holden books and so far I've taken out about 3 pages from one of them.
