I really appreciate your attempts at bringing new techniques to foam work. I like your quirky humour. I'm glad you're back at making videos. I enjoy them tremendously. See you on the next one!
That brown turned out great! You should seal with a varnish and then do a dark wash to get all those crevices. It'll protect all your hard work too. I appreciate how basic this video is. No advanced techniques or tools required. It's refreshing.
@@LostWax well I look forward to seeing the next texture or application that you stumble upon. You’re such a great teacher and I appreciate that you don’t move so fast that I have to rewind and play over and over just to understand what concept you’re trying to convey
Thanks for the vids. :) Love the look of the airbrushed shell. Would love to see videos adding straps, as well as making the plastron. *Encouragement, encouragement*
You have great artistry Chris (as well as amazing practical/engineering/design skills)… the paint jobs really bring the shells to life… and the different techniques each give distinct looks that are customisable to suit personal choice. Another fantastic video (and you still have the most relaxing voice of any TH-camr 😊).
I love your videos as they are very entertaining and informative. And unlike most videos you don't feel the need to give us your life story and blah on about totally unrelated things. I think your texturing techniques here are great, how on earth did you even come up with those ideas? I think they can be easily adapted for use on other projects. Keep on making your videos, I enjoy watching every one of them. Thank you, have a nice day.
Thanks for the super encouraging comment, and yep, I do try to keep it to the point. Sadly, the TH-cam algorithm rewards those who make longer videos, so often they get dragged out just for that reason. Have an amazing day:)
I, for one, would absolutely love to see the front plate as well. I immediately bought the pattern for the shells. I just want one for my wall...and maybe my son....and wife. Either way, I'm going to buy the foam today. I love this channel. You go into so much detail and make the creation of these seem possible for regular folks. As you go on, the end products just get better and better.
I love that you used different texture techniques and painting! Would love to see how you do the breastplate as my daughter was asking if I could update how she wears her shell. Also, I think one of my cousin's kids may want a turtle shell in the future.
@LostWax I have two canvas straps set up like backpack straps. There is an orange band on the bottom of the shell that can stabilize the shell around the waist, but the back of the shell is not concave, so having the band on causes discomfort. Not using the band works better while losing some stability. It also pushes the bottom border back when she sits, causing damage.
@@sabrepinkt Hmm, thanks for that! Are you saying the concave-ness of the shell makes it uncomfortable- or that is not concave ie flat. It's good if I can figure out what not to do before I spend a bunch of time on it:)
@LostWax the back is flat. I think I should have built a pad into the bottom or reduced the measurements. I can message some pics of it if you would want.
Love these finishing and painting ideas! i think we could also try something with foam clay. In my country that latex thing is expensive lol I wonder if we could blend the between scales with foam clay. Thanks for the content as always!
I actually love the brown one best but their all cool! Would love to see a video of you making the front uh breastplate whatever it’s called thing and the straps! But also get some rest, I can wait😅
I love your tutorials so much and have already purchased your templates. I’m building two bowser shells for my son and me for some custom BowserLorian costumes 😉 But what „dry brush“ did you use in the video? It‘s the only brush I don’t own for this project.
Would it be possible to draw the pattern on the shell, then take your knife and follow the pattern making a VERY shallow continuous line. Then hit it with the heat gun?
Yep, that would work, though you'll still have the seam lines showing where you glued the 4 pieces together, as well as the shell being kinda floppy without the reinforcement of the plates on top.
Thanks for the videos, and get some good sleep! You requested to see in the comments if people were interested in the other half (the belly / the plastron) of the turtle shell. Yes please! And just to make things even cooler, would you consider doing the sides (in between the carapace and the plastron) as well?

Yes, I'd like to try some other paint techniques!
I really appreciate your trying out different techniques and textures. It is very helpful.
Thanks! There's just so many ways to get the job done:) I am a firm believer in experimenting because you never know what you might stumble upon.

@@carlpowers7291 Thanks for the feedback, that's great to know. It's always a bit tricky to get the right pacing for a video.
I’m really thankful for your videos because this is the way I learned to make stuff out of eva foam and you’re a great teacher
Awesome! Thank you!
This is such a great series, it's very inspirational

Making this for my son. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! Love your work😎🤘

This is awesome! I'm going use this to do a Blastoise cosplay. Can't wait to see how you do the straps!

Thanks so much, That's my goal- to make these things accessible to folks and expose more people to the joy of making something!
I love all the different colors
You are color blind and you do so good! Amazing!

Do you mind me asking how she wears her she’ll that she’s not happy with?

GREAT JOB! YOU ARE AMAZING!
Thank You!!
So wholesome. I appreciate it!
You are THOROUGH!! These were all great.
Thank you!
This is very cool! Will have to try this. Love all your video’s 😊👍
Thanks so much 😊
I would love to see an underwater scene , like an aquarium that glows under blacklight 🙏🏻😊
Sorry just to add, a wall aquarium, so its kind of flat but gives the illusion of a proper aquarium ( fish tank )
Great job man. Norhing beats TMNT and these videos are fantastic.
Glad you like them!
Amazing! Agreed, do love the green with yellow?
Awesome project, very well done...
I really love your channel, and hope you get the rest you need.
Thank you so much!
These look great! Thank you.
You're so welcome!!
Cool
Do you plan on making the front part (the chest area, if you will) of the shell too?
Could be a nice 3rd part!
Yep, it's dropping tomorrow!
Love these finishing and painting ideas! i think we could also try something with foam clay. In my country that latex thing is expensive lol I wonder if we could blend the between scales with foam clay. Thanks for the content as always!
Yep, foam clay would work really well. Definitely a good idea.
@@LostWax Thank you for the reply! Also I don’t know what happen to my comment before, I just fixed it 🥴
I love the painted finishes!!!!…now, how to attach?
Great tutorial. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Very cool & informative!
Thank you!

But what „dry brush“ did you use in the video? It‘s the only brush I don’t own for this project.
To be honest, it was just one I had in the garage. I think pretty much any brush about that size should work reasonably well.
Love it!
Thanks!!

We would love3 to see the project got o completion, but you have to judge if you have the time and energy for that.
Yes, I hope it all works out!
Hi! I would love to see a video on how to add straps. I currently have two turtle shells drying right now lol 😅
Aww yeah!
Thanks for the videos, and get some good sleep!

I'll see what I can do!
What paints do you use? Acrylic?
Yep, I like acrylics. The Plaid FX paints I use in this video are great for foam because they are flexible.
I actually like the one that is only painted the most...
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Heroes in a half-shell! Turtle power!"
😁
Would be cool to see the belly made and put them together
Check it out here: bit.ly/turtleplastron
Making loggerhead turtle outfits. What are your ideas for the flippers?
This is awesome!!! Would definitely be interested in the breastplate tutorial. 🤔 but only if you are up for it. Thanks for sharing
Done! Just dropped today :)
I love your videos. Get some rest!
I'll try!
@@LostWax :)
you will make the entire TMNT suit????...please say yes
Sorry I didn't reply, I was too busy making the plastron video, which I just released :)

Casually throws out he's colourblind. On a paint tutorial. Haha
The front shell is called a plastron, and also please make them. 💙🐢💜🐢❤️🐢🧡🐢
..and that's such a great name for the front. I'll be starting on the plastron tomorrow!
