I got to bowl on this yesterday. We attacked this very differently. I balled down to the pride and then rogue blade and just beat up the area from 15-10. It kept me out of the river in the middle so they read the lanes and misses in were SLIGHTLY less disastrously awful. Misses out still sailed away to the Caymans. BUT it was something that worked for me as long as I could replicate shots. But I can also see how if you have enough traffic stripping out of the breakpoint you would end up needing to pull the line left just to keep it right of the headpin or ball down to a point that you risk deflection.
I took it as more of a “what would happen in a singles event” type thing. If this were a team based thing, for sure would create as much of a bumper as possible and then migrate. Either way, total challenge and a welcomed won. Glad you found what worked for you!
USBC Bronze Coach suggesting… Self talk is everything. You said you were going to make a terrible shot and you did. @@TenPinLife incredibly self-defeating policy, let's grow the sport by punishing ways to promote said sport...pretty respectable series you shot btw....
I think a good comparison to show the real difference and how hard these shots really are, would be to start on fresh house shot then move to the US open shots. Get lined up on house and show how much room you have to miss. Then move to the US open shot while playing the same area and show how much room you don't have with the same equipment.
Great video, I was curious how the "middle finger" would move the ball around and that was pretty wild. I think you had the right idea. How do you think this pattern will break down? Transition to cleaner and cleaner balls as the narrow strip goes away?
I don't think shiny would ever really be in play. Simonsen who led after day one stayed in a similar zone (5th arrow or so) with a Roto Grip Idol and just threw it in the air to get it through the fronts. Since all the oil is saturated in the middle, anything pearl would either fly past the headpin or see friction and just die out. However, I'm sitting at home, they're not. I could be completely wrong!
@@TenPinLife That makes more sense. I am still learning a lot about ball surfaces and how the lanes impact how you should adjust. I am at the terrible stage of knowing enough to be dangerous and it isn't good for my game haha.
My arm gets tired really easily. Some people have been saying you'll get used to it or work out but does that actually work? And how do you clean your ball without it getting tired?
So i am a junior bowler and I want to know a bit more about your thought process on moving left on the pattern when you go light twice playing middle dot. Wouldn't you move right and use the reality to play around with all the oil on the outside and I'm also confused why you never changed spots only balls
There’s actually almost no oil right, so what happens is the friction burns up all the energy the ball has and goes dead straight after that. If I had a lot more tilt, that might have been in play, but I need my ball to save as much energy as possible, which is why I went hunting for oil left.
I'd consider those last two games pretty good for an amateur on that pattern. You should have stuck with the NOVA though. That ball has a more rounded consistent shape and I feel would have given you the most miss room over many frames. I'd love to try and bowl on this pattern myself to see how I could do!
You my friend are not wrong! I definitely leaned more into the arsenal experiment for the sake of variety in the video, but I would have rode that Nova out as long as possible in a true competitive environment.
First off, this pattern is absurd! If you look at the chart it is insane hard. The only cliff, if you can all it that, is on 14. You basically have to start cutting up 13/14. This gives you some hold left and push back right. But you have to be precise. Once you break that area down then the shot will improve. But you gotta be able to repeat shots!
Are you sure you're not pro-level? You shot scores that I get on my local house shot. I'm also wondering if you've ever made a video walking through you physical game. I'm also a no-thumb one-hander and I really haven't seen anything out there that directly discusses that style. There's plenty to help conventional one-handers and two-handers, but basically nothing for the oddballs. Also, how many steps is your approach? I couldn't quite tell from the video, but it's definitely not more than four. I'm wondering because I use a three step approach and haven't been able to find any videos covering it except as an emergency thing when forced against the ball return.
First time watching. Have a question. Are you a 2 finger no thumb bowler? If so could you PLEASE do a video about your throw style? 🙏 I am a 2 finger no thumb bowler and there are no true videos for that style.
That would be awsome. I have been a 2 finger bowler for 20 years but it was very casual. I have been bowling league for the last year. My average is 164 but lately I have been bowling over my average. I am working to stay consistent with my throws and also my hand placement. Thanks in advance.
i had similar issues last night. used the nova to start, to far right would not coming back and if i didn't get it out it would early hook for splits im not good enough to hit one board consistently. switched to the venom shock to salvedge the night. our lane guy is laughing at us. 2 people had good nights one has a 130 something avg shot a 600
I love the idea of the lane man just sitting, watching and giggling the entire time. Gotta appreciate it when he's not being blamed for bad ball reaction! Also, 600! That's awesome! Good work!
Why are you playing such a deep line if it doesnt hook as much as you like ? Why not playing it straighter thru the middle ? What average do you shoot on housshot and amateur sports pattern ? Cool video, thanks for upload
Right of 15 was completely unplayable. Trying to find the right shape front to back and when it hooks early, gotta find some push so the ball saves some energy. 225 house average. 189 nationals average
@@TenPinLife so if you moved right the ball just went thru without any reaction ? No hook? Daaaaaamn those are good numbers. What would you say is the big difference between you and the pros? Whats the main reason they can play those patterns so much better ?
1:52 at this point after the light strike you've proved this ball can handle this pattern. Now simply move your feet one board to the right until you're in the pocket... simple. For some reason he chooses to move left instead which obviously doesn't result well.
@@johng8665 a big thing that helped me with that was reverse pitch when drilling balls. My hand almost sits completely flat on the ball and that allows me to stay under it a lot easier and more consistently. Definitely recommend checking that out with your PSO if you haven't already.
Im not gonna say pro bowlers arent great at bowling, but they also get hours of practice on these patterns before it counts to figure out what balls to through, where they should be playing the lane. what your doing would be the equivalent of showing up to the US open and not doing any of the practice sessions
They all got 30 minutes on each of these patterns at the practice sessions and that was it. No one knew what the patterns were until the sessions started. Also, just because a pattern may be announced and they can practice on it in their house doesn't mean anything about what they'll see in an event. Watch Kyle Sherman talk about that before the Pan-Am games. He practiced for months on the pattern they were bowling on and then when he gets there its a completely different shape.
Also, give yourself credit… even when you didn’t think you bowled well, you actually found something. There are plenty of bowlers that would have packed up and quit after their standard place to stand and throw it didn’t work.
Pba needs to keep all the patterns mid to low scoring… leave the easy shot for tv shows only…. Bowling is turning away from a precision sport into a brute strength sport… my 2 cents
There's only so much the PBA or any tournament can do to predict scores and keep them in a middle area. In fact, it's damn near impossible to keep them 'average.' High or low, pick your poison because if you think you have the secret sauce, you probably don't because you cant simulate transition.
Honestly I think you could do well in the pba tour if you just gave it a try. I think you did really well considering you hardly had any practice before those games.

nice attempt but for a good comparisson ......... where are the other 3 guys messing up the pattern....... with utethane / plastic ........... thats the main problem on these patterns......
Dude I don't think you gave urself enough credit, the biggest difference I've seen between professional and amateurs is drilling of balls you have and arsenal in ur bag as in let's say a league bowler typically has 2-3 balls and a professional has 15--18 ball and probably drilled differently for each type of lane surface , and obviously you have to have some talent to bowl also the ball just doesn't do everything for you, it just helps in my opinion to have different balls to go to but then again having alot can also make it worse by not guessing the right ball and just going with what you know works best for you in alot of oil patterns but just my opinion is all
That's the longest sentence I've ever read. lol. Although pros have bigger arsenals and more access, that has very little to do with what differentiates them from the rest of us.

There’s actually almost no oil right, so what happens is the friction burns up all the energy the ball has and goes dead straight after that. If I had a lot more tilt, that might have been in play, but I need my ball to save as much energy as possible, which is why I went hunting for oil left.
@@TenPinLife but don't you burn more energy playing left?
@@elijahpipkin4081 no energy is used when the ball surface is in contact with the lane surface. More oil left, less contact with the lane.
Wondering why you didn't try a few more shots, moving right etc before settling on this line which had very little margin for error.
Because outside the volume in the middle was completely out of play.
What is your league average. Just to give a benchmark of drop off with the tougher pattern.
I think I ended this year at like 228?
What do you average in league play?
Around 225
Love the video and content. It seems like you struggled to understand your bag and read your misses.
Glad you liked it!
There's almost no bump right of 13. Hit that and the ball either flys past the headpin or dies and doesn't carry.
My approach is 5 steps.
Also no, I’m definitely not pro level lol.
First time watching. Have a question. Are you a 2 finger no thumb bowler? If so could you PLEASE do a video about your throw style? 🙏 I am a 2 finger no thumb bowler and there are no true videos for that style.
I am and I can do that!
Good work!
Your footwork is actually great, it’s your overthinking, and changing too many balls
@@Fabomenal92 basically. Anything right would hook instantly and either go through the face or burn up all its energy
Also if you could state what you league average is as well. That would be a great reference point for all us amateurs out there trying to get an idea.
Somewhere between 190 and 250
1:52 at this point after the light strike you've proved this ball can handle this pattern. Now simply move your feet one board to the right until you're in the pocket... simple. For some reason he chooses to move left instead which obviously doesn't result well.
Not even close. You are dead wrong. The reason it was light was because it burned up. Anything right of that wouldn’t hit the headpin.
Cool video. Hate to point out what appears to be a scoring error in the 9th frame of game one
Yup. It’s incorrect
i just came across your video/channel for the first time. are you a 1 handed 2 finger bowler?
Glad you found it! Yes that is how I bowl (and the only way I can)
@@TenPinLife I’ve bowled the same way for years. Happy to see I’m not the only one. Looking to get more backswing but I feel like I’ll drop the ball
@@johng8665 a big thing that helped me with that was reverse pitch when drilling balls. My hand almost sits completely flat on the ball and that allows me to stay under it a lot easier and more consistently. Definitely recommend checking that out with your PSO if you haven't already.
Game 1 was 151
Yes it’s incorrect
In Wausuau, Wi?
Weston technically, but yes.
If i could do this at my alley like ask them to put the us open pattern out id be down to try it
You should do it!
@@TenPinLife my alley doesnt like doing special patterns unless its for sports shot league
@@adang2272 sounds like it’s time to find a new center.
@@TenPinLife oh trust me i know, they put all the renevation money into the bar, nothing on the lanes
@@adang2272 it’s a bar with a bowling alley in it, clearly… #OuttaHere
Also, give yourself credit… even when you didn’t think you bowled well, you actually found something. There are plenty of bowlers that would have packed up and quit after their standard place to stand and throw it didn’t work.
I love the challenge. A scoreboard is just a number. To be able to find different shapes that work well is where it’s at!
Why did you delete the pattern #2 video?
TH-cam screwed the audio up so I am attempting to repair it.
New nickname mastermind
Definitely not new
IDK if you saw this but your game 1 score was added up wrong, it should have been 151 but the 9th and 10th are weird
Yeah I caught that.
Man, those lane conditions are humbling out there. My toxic trait is that I think I can break 100 on this pattern. 😂😂
9 - every frame only makes 90 lol! Humbling experience thats for sure.
@@TenPinLife LOL ! When you put it that way, I'll change that number to 50.
Wow you’re in my town!?
🤷♂️ you’d know better than me!
30 left run ball between 20 arrow
Honestly I think you could do well in the pba tour if you just gave it a try. I think you did really well considering you hardly had any practice before those games.
I appreciate that. However, I don’t see myself venturing into that territory anytime soon lol.
Curious your league average
My league average is 225 or so.
you gotta rip it every shot
If you're not trying to tear the cover off the ball, are you even trying?
Maybe try an up the boards approach if you can shoot that, most hook addicts cannot see old style....
That was 100% out of play unfortunately. Basically zero oil outside of 15 beyond the arrows.
Also, hook addict? Lol
dude lookin like neo cortex in 2022
Huh?
@@TenPinLife What!! One of the most famous villains of all time!
Might wanna check your ball measurements...you're rolling directly over your finger holes, you can hear it
That's deliberate with the spare ball. That just tells me it's dead end over end. No strike shots do that.
Scoring on the bottom was a bit off . . . good through the 8th, but the 9th should be 142 and total should be 151.
I realized that. Oh well’
@@TenPinLife No worries! I bowled on a US Open 42 foot FLAT at my center once, shot 134, turned around and went home. Kudos to you!
@@BOWLINGCTUSA I bowl a summer series that the year end is always on the old 1:1 40' the US Open used to always be on. We all hate ourselves by the end of that night. But hey, getting better one shot at a time!
nice attempt but for a good comparisson ......... where are the other 3 guys messing up the pattern....... with utethane / plastic ........... thats the main problem on these patterns......
Make sure you tag me when you post your video with all of those variables covered Ed.
That's some fuzzy math in game one. Actually shot 151 - not 169
Yes it’s incorrect
Are you using just 2 fingers
Yes.
@@TenPinLife lol wasn't trying to write a book or anything lol but I think it does help alot and again just my opinion but I said you obviously have to have some talent just like any sport
Reality.
🧐
Move right get it out and straighten up.
100% out of play.
All over the place bro.
Thanks

@@TenPinLife ok
Placko!
Joe Flacco?
You forgot your thumb lol
Thank goodness I did because these would have been three useless games for y’all
Love your personality, you should of moved right and used urethane
Sorry to say but there was absolutely no chance that was gonna work lol
Nobody gonna talk about how he gave himself an extra strike in game 1? He should’ve ended with a 151. He needed a double and 7 / to throw 169…
Does that really matter? I made a mistake, so what? Get a life.
