- Hey all, in today's video I give an update on my apistogramma borellii dwarf cichlids and tell you how I bred them! They spawned about a week ago and now the fry are larger and eating microworms! This is a great beginner species to breed and a beautiful fish. My tank is a 20 gallon planted aquarium.
Nearly 50 years are Apisto's and Labyrinth's my tankmates. A. borelli (in my youth A. reitzigi) is one of the nicest Apisto for beginners as well.
Very interesting their spawning and breeding behaviors, pretty succesful ❤❤❤
Are you going to post an update video on the fry?
great video well done
Thank you very much!
Awesome video! What do you do with the fry from the batches??
Can’t comment on your pike videos? You ever fished lake moriane? You may be able to get some great video there!
What is keeping your fry from getting sucked up in your HOB filters? I can see something where the intake tube would normally hang down but can’t tell what that is.
Beautiful fish and love your set ups!
Other than micro worms is there any other foods the fry can survive on? Thank you!!
How often do you do eater changes ?
Would you recommend these over Hongsloi? I'm hoping my Hongsloi breed but have been wanting to add Borelli to my main tank
Is there anything special to know? Like does the water have to be a certain hardness or temperature? Will i be able to breed them in tap?
Bit late, but I saw you didn't get a reply. A. borellii can do OK in tap water, they prefer cooler water, about 22°C, pH around 6.5. Not necessarily in blackwaters. They have been collected in the wild in water of pH 7.5. But they are shy and nervous.
Can I keep 3 different types of Apristogamma with 1:3 male and female ratio in my 120 gallons tanks ( this is a black water tank and there are lot of hidden places)
They have a hard time breeding in larger tanks
probably asking the wrong guy
What temperature do you recommend ?
A. borellii prefer cooler water than the more northerly species, 22 - 24°C, but they will tolerate 25 - 26°C.
He didn't say. I give mine 30% every week. They appreciate low nitrate levels. If you want them to breed, then increase these to 25% every other day.
I dont think the old time fish keepers want to keep any of their knowledge withheld, there are plenty of videos on youtube about simple live food production from old school keepers .....for those willing to listen.
Can you answer my questions please ? Other wise whats the point of the video. ?
Microworms and Artemia franciscana nauplies are the easyest and best food for fry at all. Black moscito larvas (fresh or frozen) is the best food for adults at all. Stay away from Red moscito larvas and tubifex ...
