Notice the L train line behind the alley. It represents Chicago of which Dick Tracy comes from. The comic strip premiered in 1931 on the Chicago Tribune newspaper. 😊

Back then only a cartoon fantasy the wrist watch radio. Now a reality!
If you want to see the future watch science fiction. Tracy was not science fiction I know. However his devices became modern day reality!

I noticed at 0:42, the credits said "Direction: Clyde Geronimi."
I believe Clyde Geronimi also made cartoons (and a few live action films, I think) for the Walt Disney studios.

Dick Tracy show always perplexed me, Tracy consigned to a desk job and ordering about a bunch of comic stereotypes. A far cry from the dark city violence of the original strip. Wow.

At the time the main complaint about cartoons was violence ethnic stereotypes were standard then and would be for at least the next decade. Writing this as one who was seven when this was aired.

I haven't seen this opening since the late 1960s. I used to watch the Dick Tracy cartoon show on television in Los Angeles. I can't remember if it was on Channel 11, KTTV , Los Angeles , or Channel 13, KCOP, Channel 13. I guess after the assasinations of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy, parents probably complained about violence in the media, and the TV stations thought it wasn't a good idea to show Dick Tracy shooting his gun.

Imagine if they had a series with Joe Jitsu taking on the crooks from Batman: The Animated Series. I'd like to see him take on the duo Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn.

Joe Jitsu knows how to deal with Sketch Paree and The Mole. I see Joe Jitsu gets Sketch and Mole more. Correct me if I'm wrong.

And not just the extremely blatant ethnic stereotypes. There is a crapload of other reasons as well.

As a Black Americain I Do not approve of Dick Tracy &Joe Jitsu. It was racist depliction of an Asian American. However it probably wasn't meant that way and its of the times.

    • @bunnybird9342

@@dondixon4206 imo the entire cartoon series as a whole comes across as ignorant rather than actively malicious, but at the same time it is still inappropriate by today's standards and it would have never been created any time after the 1960s. It isn't appropriate for syndication and I wouldn't show it to a little kid. But regardless, it is actually one of the milder things I've seen as I have seen many other racist cartoons that are MUCH worse.

      "... it's of the times."
So was D.W. Griffith's Civil War film "The Birth Of A Nation" (1915), with its hideous portrayal of black people as criminals and sex predators, and its heroic depiction of the Ku Klux Klan.

I remember these -- vaguely. As the characters appear, I'm thinking, "I remember these." Didn't much like them, the Archie's TV funnies version were more entertaining.

Not widely seen these days due to the terrible stereotypes of Asians and Latins. Plus, how come Dick Tracy himself is barely in his own show?

    • @bunnybird9342
      @bunnybird9342 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I did see a blog post written by somebody who claimed that he met people involved with the show's production and that they said they had no clue what they were doing and that even then they still had no clue what they were doing. I have also seen some people speculating that it was probably meant to be a generic cop cartoon at first but Dick Tracy was added last second so that it could sell better. What is interesting, however, is that the reason why all of the episodes open with "okay chief I'll get on it right away" is because there were originally live-action kids shows hosts who would dress up as policemen and then pretend to call Dick Tracy and then it would look like he was calling them back. Unfortunately, these live-action segments are now lost media.
