- The Chosen mechanic from Set 4 is one of the most beloved set mechanics to date. So with the release of Set 10 the developers decided to back an improved version of it under a different name - Headliner. It allows you to buy a 2 Star Champion from the shop for a higher price, but in return the unit comes with bonus stats and counts as two for the selected trait. On the surface it seems like an easy to understand, simple mechanic. But there are some things behind the curtain waiting to be discovered. Today we will take a quick glimpse at how exactly does the Headliner work in TFT's newest set called Remix Rumble. Tighten up your seatbelts as this will be a bumpy ride!

Lemme get this straight, if im rerolling Kata (and i specifically need CD Kat) I chould buy and immediately sell the Country Kat that i get to not have 7 guaranteed No Kata shops, but the next Kata i get will 100% be CD. Correct?
@@theduelist92 Not entirely possible, cause the rules get broken once you do the buy and sell strategy, so it's not guaranteed to get anything in the way it's supposed to
if you reroll kata, you should not only buy+sell the country kata for cd, but also buy+sell any CD headliners you receive as well. This takeaway is massive.

Thanks for publishing these findings, the hidden mechanics for Headliners is definitely one of the more frustrating RNGs to grapple with and knowing some of the constraints will help folks manage expectations.

I mean, not really, you're just wasting more gold as leduck himself said in the video, this is only really worth it for 1 costs, so you don't lose the economy otherwise your odds would still likely be better by just saving that gold to roll more, even more given the speed of the reroll seems to influence the likelihood of this having an effect, and it also seems like it might be a bug, so this could change at any moment, overall it's just not worth picking up the habit.

Im not talking about buying every headliner, just the similar traits or same unit.
ex: I get exec Samira but want country Samira. I need to spend atleast 16 gold to get the trait I want. also, if I get country urgot before the 8th roll, thats another 10 gold before getting country Samira
If I buy that exec Samira and sell it losing 1 gold, country Samira could appear before I roll 14 gold.
But yeah, it may be a bug and gets fixed soon, but if not, its a great tech to save gold and faster roll for the right headliner.

To me it seems that buying or selling a headliner resets all of the cooldowns that should be in place. Which is why you're able to see units or traits that you normally wouldn't be able to after selling. But obviously those shops are still subject to RNG, which is why you couldn't consistently find those units and traits showing up within the timer (i.e. there were still many rolls that seemed normal). So I believe if you're looking for an executioner headliner samira, for example, it's in your best interest to buy and resell a country samira, because that would reset your samira timer. It also resets your country timer however, so there's a chance of getting unlucky and seeing a country samira again. I'd have to sit down and do the math, but I'm pretty sure it's better odds than rolling 16 gold before you can see a single samira again.
I did some tests with always buying a specific unit and then rolling and I always ended up with the original rules. Might be because of a small data sample in the end, but I could never break the rule with this system in the end. Once I went to sell 3 HL, I was able to get results rather quickly.
just a theory but can it be because the headliner rules also accounts the last headliner you played/sold only? so lets say you want to bypass the rules for tf and you see him with the trait you dont want. so you buy and insta sell him and your next shop is lets say kartush headliner so you buy and sell him as well in order to bypass the rules for tf. tho it means you are losing a shop@@leduck
I think the rule only applies if you “skip” the unit. It might be similar to how it works in the early sets where you cannot get the same unit you skipped in the previous shop. So if you skip that headliner trait or headliner champion, the shop is saying “i cannot show that trait or champion anymore cause the player doesn’t want it”

The rules are probably here to help you get a diverse choice of headliner, to avoid unlucky edge cases. This mean it is indeed probably buying the headliner that reset the rules.
This could be useful if you really want to force a specific headliner with a specific trait, if you get the trait you want from another unit (or the correct unit with the wrong trait), selling it should increase your odds.
The only thing i can really think of is headliner odds are intrisically linked with roll odds. So if you buy a headliner and sell it before anyone in the game rolls and updates the pool so it bugs out. Thats the only reason why id think speed would matter sometimes and when people are dead

If all of the champions except one in the same tier have half the pool bought out so the headliner cannot appear, does that allow for the same champion to appear as a headliner twice in a row?

As a thought experiment, you can also break the no unit repeating in hliner shop. If everyone takes more than half of 5 costs except for one, your 5 cost hliner shop WILL repeat. The game WILL NOT you lock to a 4 cost just because of the rule - the rarity of a shop roll supercedes it. If that were the case the expected distribution of 5 cost hliner would be lower than the displayed 30% (~23%). This means even the "consistent" rule can be broken.
Clearly, the hierarchy is:
1. Shop rarity
2. A unit cannot repeat consecutively
3. A trait cannot repeat consecutively on the same unit regardless of the rolls between them
4. Unit or Trait "cycles"
(4) is debatable considering that players are interacting with the pool and using up copies in their BOARD and SHOP but with sufficient copies it might be probably what you data mined - but it's definitely at a lower priority.
So buying and selling makes no difference because that unit as hliner cannot appear in your next shop, it does help you however to get that unit as a non-hliner. It does not "repeat" the "cycle". Logically speaking there's not even a reason to add that rule.
i think buying the unit might reset the 'wheel' , which means after buying and selling the next unit it's complete rng but will follow the normal rules after
I think alkali is coded as 2 units. As she is also embedded in the board planner as 2 operate units. Pretty obvious theory but your video supports it.
Is there an amount of champs that will prevent the headliner of that champ show up? For instance if I have 6 Blizt, will I get a blitz headliner?

With the trait one, if you see Chosen Executioner Samira, can you see Chosen emo Vex before the minimum value is rolled?
If i use a 3 costs headliner when i found it for the next 7 rounds, can i sell and roll for that unit with 100% chance of another trait?

Should also mention that if half of the units in a pool are out a headliner cannot appear for anyone. I see people rolling down all the time specifically looking for champs that literally cannot appear

How does this apply when you have a headliner on the board, is it still the same amount of shops, or is it counting the number of headliners that showed up in your shop?

Does the Multi-Talented portal have an impact on the frequency of headliners as well?
If I had to guess (and I do have to guess) I would say that Multi-Talented applies to what is displayed in your shop and the unit you get when you click it, but does _not_ affect (and is not affected by) the draws. As a concrete example, say you draw a Punk Jinx under multi-talented. What is displayed in your shop (and what unit you get if you buy it) is a Punk Rapidfire Jinx, but for the purposes of the repeat rules, it was just a Punk Jinx all along, so it's Punk that can't be selected as the headliner trait for 4 rounds. It would still be possible to draw a Senna headliner, for example.
However ... this is all a guess
I think the akali situation is that : she can't have a KDA or True Damage headliner because it will change depending on your board. That's why you get executioner akali twice

Do you actually have less probability to find a specific headliner if there are less champs in the pool? Example 50% of the akali are bought, instead nobody bought karthus, do I have more chances to find karthus headliner?
The selling thing is not surprising. Set 4 had a mechanics like that too.

Bro you cut off a question I had right at the beginning 😭 how does Recombobulator work with headliners? Does it just roll it into a random headliner with +1 cost or is there some weird rule?
Recombob turns your headliner into a random non-headliner with +1 cost, and you have to roll for a new headliner.
I really wish they just told us exactly what happens if you buy and sell the headliners. If I want to be able to see the same trait or headliner again I should just be able t waste the 1 gold by buying and selling that unit, instead of weirdly having to buy and sell multiple headliners in a row to get better odds.

How exactly is the headliner probably affected by the bag size? If there are 3 units left is there 3/x chance or is there 1/x chance.
He meant that there are 13x 20x 2 cost units in the pool but that's way more than the 13x 10 x 4 cost units. You can't find a headliner or a units if more than halfof the unit are out of the pool.
If there are 3 units left the headliner will never appear!
What bout selling a 3 start. I use to buy 3 start cost one that didnt fit comp and use it as frontline till i get a better cost, when i sold it it seemed i no longer was able to buy the champ even as a nonheadliner

Yeeee the no higher value need to change xD Saw Yone at stage 3-1 or something with Heartsteel. Rolled around 140 times to find him again as headliner at lvl 7 xD (from stage 3-5 to 6-1) And coulden't find a single Yone headliner (no one was playing him exept me) Was 2 dudes who had him 1 stard on board for Heartsteel and that was it... Like it just feels stupid xD

If you have 6 same units (two same 2* units) can this unit headliner appear? Some streamers says that impossible. Today I had 6 Kayles (other 7 players doesn't have any of them ) and then rolldown 60+ gold at lvl 6. And I didn't saw any headliner Kayle, only normal ones. After it I gave up make Kayle 3* without headliner and move on
I was going to ask the same question; but in a recent game I was going for kat 3 star, and found a headliner after owning 6.
Any champion with less than half of its copies left in the pool, can't appear as Headliners. For your Kayle example, if you have 6 total and you are 100% certain nobody in your Lobby has any Kayle, then this Rule won't trigger yet and you can still find her.
If there are less than half the champion left in the bag then headliner can show up, so for your question it's possible for 1, 2 & 3 costs but not 4 & 5 costs because there wouldn't be enough units left in the bag. Sounds like you just got unlucky trying to play around a specific headliner.
Be sure to also look out for the fact that potential kayle's in people's shop that are not bought by them but are still in their shop counts towards units from the pool. As long as the unit is in their shop, even if it's not bought, it is considered out of the pool. @@leduck

Also if you have a headliner and you sell it, does it immediately reset the rule there? Like if I have a Yasuo headliner and I see a Jinx headliner, if I sell my Yasuo, will I see another Jinx in 7 shops and will it have a guaranteed alternate trait?

There’s still a gold cost associated to it, since you sell the headliner for half of what you bought it for, and you’re also paying for rerolls.
