@@TrikeTalkin yes I have twice once with a German Shepherd and another time with a pit mix . It works great . I just hope I never have an attacking dog that’s deaf. I have a stun gun also ,and a 380. A lady next county over lost her leg from three pits that attacked her while she was riding her bike . She was lucky a car passing by with a man that had a gun got them off of her. He had to kill two of them to get them off the other ran. They got her in the car and to the hospital. They ripped all her skin off her back . She was in the hospital for a year lost her leg.

unfortunately here in Canada all these things are illegal. We can carry dog/coyote spray but will be charged with assault if we use it on another human. So I wear a knife and carry collapsible walking sticks. These are tools to be used to cut my dogs lead if needed in an emergency and of course, the walking sticks are for walking. I also am trained in hand to hand combat and firearms. I think the most important thing is what you started with - use your head, stay alert, use your instincts and don't be afraid to be rude. We as women give a lot of our power away just by being "too nice". I have to say that my training has been the best investment because it has shown me 'how much' harm can I inflict in different circumstances. This also gives me permission to inflict harm if required to 'get away'...all are which legal here... thx for addressing this.

Your words are golden. I know here in the states so many people say well I will just carry bear spray, or I will just carry wasp spray and if you spray that on a human being, you will be in legal trouble. Things that are neurotoxic to human beings, and formulated for other creatures are indeed illegal to use, and so many are unaware of that fact. When I was editing the video, I realized I should have stated something to that effect. It was great hearing from you… Chime in anytime you would like! Blessings & Be Safe Out There! -GG

I have a bracket/holder for my hatchet.. I wouldn't use it on someone, but think how someone would back away if a person who has a crazy look in their eyes was swinging an axe.. LOL

Do you do any back woods trail riding? That would be a great tool for cutting smaller firewood for a campfire. Where do you keep your bracket/holder? How is the weight factor of that tool? I am always trying to ride as lightly as possible, but still with all my essentials.

@@TrikeTalkin RGG... i have a pump holder mounted on the right side of the seat. (i'm right handed :) the axe is vintage (quality) and i had it professionally sharpened (cuts paper).. I live in Portland and do a lot of riding in bear/cougar country but only on the roads. So i keep a can of bear spray just over my right shoulder in a holder accessible by simply reaching with one hand (just to the right side of my headrest. I turned it in the bracket so that it would be facing forward (so i don't really have to think..only verify that it is faced forward).
I also have sleigh bells attached to the frame of my Recumbent.. Bears and Cougars do not like the sound and will get as far away (along with cubs) to avoid it.. The last thing you wants is to startle/surprise a bear. That is why bear attacks happen. They run away when they hear unusual noises coming. The bells alert them you're approaching and keep them at a distance. I also play music (ipod/jbl charge).. Sound will alert mother bears and cougars that you are near and they will keep their cubs far away. They only attack when they feel their cubs are in danger.. So never get between them and their young. We have black bears, so knowing whether to stand up to them and look big VS a Grizzly has very different defense move. Knowing how to deploy bears spray low (not over their head) is important.. You do this at about 20-30 feet away... otherwise you waste the spray.

Sorry my comment did not show up. I have been riding a trike for a number of years now. I find the best way to deal with dogs is to just stop riding when a dog is running towards the bike. Once the chase is taken away from the dog he also stops. Then talking to the dog and slowly begin riding away and all should be well. Its the chase that the dog wants , once that is taken out of the equasion the dog looses all interest. It works.

I agree, 100%. It stimulates some type of reflex or instinct, and they want to run. I know it’s happened with horses that we’ve encountered just on the other side of fences as we’ve written by. They’ve taken off and run with us and it was beautiful. Sometimes I even carry small treats even on walks, and that seems to kind of diffuse and aggressive animal. I usually get along pretty well with dogs, and I think they know who who they can trust and who they instinctively do not trust. It’s been the case with all of my dogs down through the years. This has been the same whether it was our small or a little fluffy dogs to our mini Doberman’s. Thanks for getting back and sharing that. Great information! Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

When I was attacked by a mix pit bull I had stopped as I had to he had almost bit me ,and wasn’t stopping when I stopped. The only thing that kept me from being bit was keeping my bike between us. The airhorn wasn’t fun for me , but it got the dog off of me. I have a shoulder injury that a dog .
