BAND-MAID - Dice & Hate? at Lollapalooza 2023, with optimized audio

- It's no secret anymore, the maids were on fire at Lollapalooza 2023. Especially when they played Dice and directly went into Hate?, with its incredible bass/guitar duel.
But the audio level and dynamics were a bit on the weak side (the mix was great though), so I tried to optimized it a little. - เพลง
Can confirm, after seeing them in Portland roughly two weeks after this (where they also played these songs during their set): this is the best live rock band I’ve ever seen. 🤘🔥❤️🇯🇵
8:02 I love when I see that little smile on Kanami's face. You can tell she is in the zone and nailing it. All those years of hard work are paying off for her in that moment. It's her brilliance shining.
Band-Maid has always been at a different level: they're always upping their game, continuously working out how they can improve their Okyu-ji, and their stringing 'Dice' into 'Hate? and inserting a MISA / Kanami bass / guitar duel into it was pure high energy genius. When repeated later in the tour Miku & Saiki were horsing around with Akane during the duel. They know how to have fun and they let the audience in on the joke.
I’m confident this incredible performance will stand along side some of the all time great rock n' roll moments in history !
Back watching this again and can't keep my eyes off how much fun Saiki is having just watching the duo battle.
Hate? Live is on a whole different level. It's high energy, and the tempo is constantly hyping you up. It was one of my favorite part at the Sacramento show.
This is a performance that will never be forgotten

The video director liked Miku Kobato and her Flappy Pigeon, and what's not to love? That's a great shot of Miku flawlessly playing the descending chords leading into her primal scream in Hate?.
Very good point, playing that kind of chords succession while singing show her total confidence.
You are right. The director even showed the scratch on Miku's right cheek by her beloved cat.

Bandmaid made a great JOB! I am proud of BANDMAID as one Japanese peaple, (I am a 67 old Japanese man!),
KANAMI, AKANE, SAIKI, KIMU, MISA are all so talented, they studied music theory and they can play the piiano at least. They are new and brandnew female, who recently appear in Japan suddenlly, when I became and fall into fan from their appearance and I was very glad.
I am American and I understand your pride in this band! I'm 60 and thought that rock was dead or at least on life support. And then 6.5 years ago, I found Band Maid by accident. I wasn't looking for them, I didn't even know they existed. 30 seconds into "Thrill" I was hooked! Mind blown, life just got a whole lot better! There is no better band on the planet! Fuck yeah BAND MAID Po! Thank you Japan for this amazing gift!

After watching so many live videos of them I finally got to see them live in Denver. I thought I knew what I was in for but it wasn't even close. They sound so amazing live. During Screaming you could see the tendons on Saiki's next straining as she was going hard on the vocals. They were all great. I was tempted to call in sick for work the next day and drive to SLC to see them again. 😊
hat HATE? jam is AWESOME!!!! MISA's Cyclops Power Eye is fun to watch, and I've never seen Kanami eyes get so intense during that jam.....just a joy to watch and listen.
Can't help but feel so proud of the Maids, silly as that might sound, this is how rock is done and delivered, what a band Po 👍🎼🍻

The Audio sounds so much better, thanks. A few things, They kill Dice nowadays, the transition gives me goosebumps and Hate? is a flipping awesome song however they play it. They've created another rod for their own back though, I'll forever hear these songs together in my head, same as Manners and Black Hole

Somehow I've ended up watching this every day, sometimes multiple times, since it happened a month ago. I can't get enough of this performance...and then they brought the same energy through the rest of their tour. I know the rest of the world wants to see this band too, but still, I hope they come back sometime soon to the US!
It's an unmatched performance. I saw them debut this version guitar duel the night before at the Lollapalooza Thursday night "aftershow" concert. I've seen them twice and both times songs I would have said were among the least excited for on paper ended up being the best songs of the night and I get addicted to them. I don't think the studio track of Hate would have made my top 50 BM studio tracks. The live version? I've watched this video one way or another over 100 times. You truly can't judge and appreciate a song of theirs until you see what it is live.
Thanks, Doc, great job. I loved the entire Lallapalooza set, but his song combo is going down in history for sure!
Just got done watching a slew of ' 70's live concert videos. Then I switched over to this for the umpteenth time... DAMN...If most of those acts could teleport to this concert they would surely evacuate their bowels at what they were seeing and hearing ! My face hurts from smiling too much at the brilliance that is Band Maid ! 😁♥️

Thx Doc it sounds totally fine to me. And no it's no secret anymore how awesome this set was but man, the lead/bass conversation is right up there with "Don't You Tell Me". Superstar Maids the lot of them.🤩
Great shots of Mincho mode, what an amazing instrumental break on Hate, my favorite song ( well for now- it changes by the minute ). Saiki has morphed into the best frontperson, man she has really " Just Brought It" , she is mesmerizing. Miku, always with her great vocals and energy, now she is a very good rhythm guitarist, adds so much to the overall mix, they are a true five piece band.
Akane, Misa, and Kanami I have no more words, I have run out of superlatives, they are simply the very best at their positions ( Kanami as lead guitar AND music creator/director, taken together ).
I'll wager there was no one else at Lollapalooza with as hot a set as BM they are "Flying High" right now coming into their own.
Remember, ladies, World Domination wasn't built in a day.
Kanami is a legend, but you're right. They are all on the top of their game at all times. This band just has so much energy and feels so cohesive.

The act up before them was a DJ. The camera guys were like, "Ok just park the cameras on this guy and lets go get a bite to eat." Then Band Maid comes on and the camera guys are like "Crap, solos! Quick get on the guitar player! Wait, it's the other guitar! No, it's the bass! Aww to hell with it. Just get on the drummer. She's killing it too!"
I believe maybe part of the problem was that all the ladies killed it with their parts in the song that the camera guys couldn't keep up on who to focus on. Lol
I imagine them at the break room eating, drinking or resting and....

I really enjoy watching this live performance the band are so tight bass and drums are the back bone of these songs. I have watched it at least 10 times and only just noticed Akarne stick drop at 5.23 but recovery is seamless she is just amazing 😻

I think these fantastic girls deserve a lot more spectators, the empty space in front of the stage looks quite sad.
It was the first show of the day. Most of the attendees weren't even over the hangover from the previous night. Hopefully, if they're brought back next year, they'll get a later billing.
These girls must have a deal with the devil. Otherwise, I can't explain their incredible performance.

The bass player is legitimately sick. She carries the whole band. Please Matt Freeman VS Misa live bass duel.
A year or two ago, Kanami started wearing much longer dresses for some reason. They actually look like the same dresses, but with extra material added.
The disconnect between the audio of the instrument playing and the artist being shown onscreen is really disconcerting. When I hear the bass playing, I want to see Misa. When I hear the guitar going off on a solo, I want to see Kanami. And so on.
The video editor did a really sloppy job.
Definitly. I would say "video director" rather than editor though, because it was done in real time (no video edition, this was a live stream). He obviously knew nothing about Band-Maid but even so, it's no rocket science to focus on bass when you hear it soloing. There's a good side to this though, it give us unusual images of Akane and Saiki enjoying a lot their friend's duel.
