    So impressed with Malawi Airlines
Ethopian has surely influenced the success of this tiny airline.
The food look tasty and plenty of it ofcourse the aircraft are dated but the service compensates for a well used cabin
    Such an interesting vlog Josh
    Thank you
P.S.Josh as a heavy set disabled passenger your bathroom reviews are so important for me to judge if especially on longhaul flights that I can use the facilites so please continue the reviews 👍

I am Kenyan working and living in Malawi. I frequently travel on this plane between Nairobi and Lilongwe. As someone who has experienced the life here and also someone who comes from around Lake Victoria, if Chambo is Tilapia, we also have a tilapia species in Lake Victoria that tastes much better. Chambo got some small small bones that might be dangerous if you’re not used to eating fish. Generally, Malawi is nice with very amazing and loving people. Cheers.

Go stay at a bush lodge and then do a review on that as well. Maybe that can become your new style of videos. Review aircraft AND accommodation :)

I think the bag tags that track your luggage is a fantastic idea! having worked for an airline and in an airport that wasn't diligent about making sure people grabbed the right bags, this would be a perfect solution. once I had a passenger that was flying in for a funeral, and they were doing a photo video of her mother who had died. all of her old photographs of her mother were in her luggage. she was hysterical, and rightly so. fortunately, the person that had grabbed her bag accidently, brought it back. with the tracker this would've been eliminated, and you wouldn't have to rely on the honesty of that person. in her case she got lucky. I'm getting one. did you post a link?

Loved the video and brings back great memories of my teenage years in Malawi, spent many hours on that viewing balcony at Chileka and flew on the old BAC 1-11 a few times. Malawian's excel with service, it's not called the 'Warm Heart of Africa' for nothing.
As I understand the 747SP had a great backstory where it was leased from SA Airways for one journey for the then President, Dr H Kamuzu Banda's visit to the UK in 1985. It was repainted in Air Malawi colours (loved the logo back on the old Air Malawi) and flew to London via Schiphol and then back to Johannesburg, never ever touching Malawian soil, where the lease ended!

Denisa Muna & Josh Cahill, and every other westerner!
These westerners don't understand whether what they say would distort the image of the country 🇹🇿 or not! What John Cahill said was like Mocking the country and her Ex Leader whom we loved so deary despite of his flaws!
And not every country upholds such mockery! We have so much respect for our leaders (the past and the present)! If every Tanzanian spoke English, I am sure this video would be disliked heavily and wouldn't have been supported
Nobody knows why our Ex President died, nobody knows how and when he died! You don't expect to ironically speak things just because you come from a country where none of your leaders are respected! And this stems to every westerner around the globe who wishes to do our country's image Harm!
I promise Josh Cahill, if majority of Tanzanians spoke English, your video could have been highly disregarded.
We Respect our leaders, and yes, in our country, not all the leaders are perfect, but that doesn't mean you should speak for us, we Tanzanians speak for ourselves! You don't understand how influential our Ex president was, despite his flaws but we still spoke so highly of him, he considered his people unable to bare the consequences of Lockdown, he touched the heart of the poor to the rich, he knew our economy could deteriorate for one after the other, that's why he did what he had to do and the westerners sought his image otherwise!
I am proudly a Tanzanian 🇹🇿, na natamani watanzania wote tujiunge kupinga Upuuzi wa hawa wazungu!

With the ex president of Tanzania, it is actually still a mystery- I lived in Tz in that time and they were actually saying he died of heart disease, as he was having a very bad heart disease. Although I also tend to believe it was covid. It was crazy right then, the cases of a "mysterious pneumonia/bad flu" were rising, oxygen was hard to find in hospital but people still would not believe in covid :) . Not far from where I was staying, they "transformed" an old hospital and they were taking there people with covid who also had other related health issues (especially pulmonary/diabetes/heart problems) and they were practically waiting for them to die, as they had no available treatment for them 😔.

I love your videos. You were extremely lucky Josh. I have travelled into/out of Malawi many times over the last 20 years, so speak out of real experience, when I write that this is a f***ing shitty airline, who operate more like a minibus than an airline. We nicknamed them "Air Where are we"! The managers/ground staff at check-in are incompetent, rude and look only for reasons to offload you. The pilots and crew are okay. They have no competition on the routes they fly i.e. J'burg, or Dar or Harare, etc. so they just do not care about schedules or timing or waiting passengers, because you have no other choice. I just wish that Malawi Government would have the "guts" to fire off Ethiopian Airlines from the JV, and open the skies to other regional or local airlines, rather than "protect" this on-going incompetence.

Nice video! Malawi Airlines is so small that I didn't even know it existed and I've been there! Flew SAA in and out of Lilongwe from Joburg. Oh, well. Next time. I love the luggage tag tracking! What a great advance. I've had my luggage go astray a few times over the years. Malawi was one of those time where I had to make do without a change of clothing for two days. Grrrr. Also, I think chambo is delicious.

I actually do like the loo review. Not that I enjoy looking at pots, but your opinion of hygiene level comes useful. Although the level will varie from routes to routes, it does give an insight to how well the airline (and the crew) actually care about hygiene and maintaining of the aircraft.

Would have loved to have AirTag from my flight from Cairo via Addis Ababa to Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania. Suffice to say my luggage did not arrive in Kilimnajaro and I was due for a 7 day journey into the Serengeti. Emergency stop at the gift shop to buy extra shirts and shorts. Bags finally arrived at Seronera Airstrip in the middle of the Seregenti 5 days later and just in time as well as I had run out of underwear!

They used (as Air Malawi) to have a VC10 and and a BAC 1-11. Awesome VC10 (ex British Caledonian) but too expensive to operate and discontinued in 1979. Also a couple of HS748s and a Vickers Viscount which I recall seeing heading off from Blantyre to Harare on 3 engines for repairs. The VC10 did regular London Gatwick via Amsterdam and Nairobi to Blantyre. Also to the Seychelles and Jo’burg.
