You really nailed it. Fat boy Slim created highly layered and sampled Electronic Dance Music (EDM) that was derived from rave culture. Legendary DJ and artist.

Crazy dance video starring Christopher Walken. One of his silliest dance routines was with John Travolta in drag wearing a fat suit under his costume in Hairspray.
So Fatboy Slim is British DJ Norman Cook who holds the Guinness Record for most Number 1 singles under the most different names. You've actually reacted to him before as a member of British 80's act The Housemartins. He also remixes a lot of other peoples songs and turns what were obscure or otherwise average songs into Number One singles. You should check out Beats International ( Dub Be Good To Me) , Freak Power ( Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out)

If you enjoyed this you will love "Praise You" which takes sampled vocals from a funk soul song "Take Yo' Praise" by Camille Yarborough and gives it the 90s treatment and has a fun video. My personal Fatboy Slim favourite is "Right Here Right Now" that has played on many a sporting occasion with its iconic opening riff. The video is renowned as it literally evolves!
I really liked Praise You but then it was released as a single and got so overplayed here in Australia.. there are so many bangers on the album but everywhere you went it was Praise You.
Fatboy Slim (Norman Cook) is a British DJ. He released this song in 1998. The main looped vocal, "Right about now, the funk soul brother / Check it out now, the funk soul brother", is rapper Lord Finesse taken from the introduction of the Vinyl Dogs track "Vinyl Dogs Vibe". Other songs of his already mentioned in the comments include "Praise You", "Right Here, Right Now", and "Weapon of Choice".
not to forget that the also released stuff under other names DubKatz, freakpower, Brighton Port Authority there are probably more that i can not recall right now
Skank is a dance move, connected with Jamaican ska music and reggae. Fatboy Slim is the pseudonym of Norman Cook from the British band The Housemartins … DJ musician producer…. Quite a guy!
This takes me back to my retail days working at JC Penney's Juniors department. They had a tv that played a few music videos and this was one of them that would play on a loop ALL DAY LONG! It would drive me bonkers after a while hearing it over and over again for my whole shift. Lol

Ok, if you're going to go down the 90's techno/house/rave rabbit hole, The Prodigy is a band you need to check out. Firestarter or Smack My B!tch Up is a good place to start
Good one to dance to from Fatboy slim, this was used in the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in the UK in 2012. 'Praise you' is another good one from him.
I hope you see this - AMBER - you mentioned "wanting to go to a Rave" - a good and funny example would be the movie "GO!" with Katie Holmes and many others. It's a teenage "Pulp Fiction" vibe drama/comedy - if that makes sense - great soundtrack that truly captured the late 90's Rave & Club scene pretty well - it's a trip!! Makes me miss my teenage years so much!! Lastly, consider ROMEO + JULIET with Leo DiCaprio - another iconic 90s flick with an insane soundtrack that you both will like!! Love ya - keep smiling!!
Right here, right now is the best Fatboy Slim track capturing the Ibiza sound of the 90s. Ibiza club sounds are the quintessential European funk electronic music
Fatboy Slim was part of the Big Beat / EDM movement of the 90s. Other artists of note in that field include Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk and The Neptunes ( Pharrell's first big band) among others. Want to really blow your mind? Check out Fatboy Slim (aka Norman Cook)'s first band The Housemartins and their song "Johannesburg" from the 1980s. Totally. Different. Vibe.
I lived in Brighton when Big Beat was at it's peak, it was amazing, so many great clubs and awesome nights out, I always joked Fatboy Slim was my neighbour, which was sort of true, I lived by Hove lawns and if I came out of my front door and walked a mile along the prom Fatboy Slims house was the first house I came across, it's a lovely house too, his back garden backed right onto the beach, Paul McCartney lived their too at the time until he got divorced and his ex-wife got the house, the two free gigs Fatboy Slim did on the beach right by my flat were incredible, Big Beach Boutique, a pun on the name of the Big Beat Boutique which was a club in town where Fatboy Slim dj'd, one of his best albums was a live recording from their called 'On the Floor at the Boutique', I have such great memories of living in Brighton them, it was an awesome time.
Gillette safety razors had adjustable models called the Fatboy (1958-1961) and the Slim (1960/61-1968). No doubt Norman Cook took his inspiration from Gillette.
If you want some more electronic music, I'd recommend looking into The Prodigy. What started out as a single musician/DJ with dancers later evolved into something grander. If you'd like to hear the progression, check out (in release order) "Fire" (1992), "Out of Space" (1992), "No Good (Start the Dance)" (1994), "Voodoo People" (1994), "Poison" (1995), "Firestarter" (1996) (total style change) (Most popular song), "Breathe" (1996), "Baby's Got a Temper" (2002), "Spitfire", (2005) (return to older style), "Invaders Must Die" (2008), and "Omen" (2009) .
When I only heard just clips of this song I thought the lyrics were "the funk's so rubber". No, I don't know why I thought that. Then I found out the lyrics were "funk soul brother" and I thought THAT was the name of the song. 20+ yrs later I find out the title is "Rockafella Skank". Hilarious. BTW I'm kind of old. LOL.
"Funk Soul Brother!!" 😂 Fatboy Slim is Norman Cook an English DJ & tracks from his 2nd album were EVERYWHERE, Nike ads just everywhere!! "Praise You" is probably the most known in America & internationally but there were so many tracks from 2nd album "You've Come A Long Way Baby" heard around the globe! I've seen a few performances of Fatboy Slim especially at Glastonbury Festival & he can really get a crowd going with his beats
I'm from the UK. I was in college when this was released. It was constantly on every radio station. It just huge and Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, was so well loved. When Weapon of Choice was released, he was loved even more. I had both the single( back when singles were the thing) and the album. It was astonishing at the time you like, wow, he managed to get the great Christopher Walken in his video(this is sick). Given that he was not a world renowned name at the time.
I KNEW you'd love this song!!!! Now you have to listen to "Praise You" and "Weapon of Choice." Fatboy Slim was popular in the U.K. in the '90s, but he didn't have a hit in the U.S. until late 1999 or 2000. That hit was "Praise You."
Yep, '90's club 'DJ's. Whatever the heck that was. There's a lot of it out there, made for the dance floor, dancin' your ass off on substances or whatever. Never my thing, but some of it you couldn't help bop to, like it or not. ✌❤
Welcome back! Those Smiles on your Dials! Fatboy Slim always leaves me grinning too! Don't be put off by his title Weapon of Choice - you've got to see the Walken dance moves!
It was called Big Beat back in the day. Music made of samples and synths that kept a live drum sound as the basis of the sound. It sounded huge in a club. Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Bentley Rhythm Ace, Groove Armada, Propellerheads etc. were all associated with the scene.
I like almost every song Fatboy Slim created for about a decade straight. It's a lot of dance music, experimental, unique - suits me like a well fitting glove.
"Skank" is a type of reggae/ska dance. There are all sorts of remixes to this. My favorite uses the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" riff. They played it over the radio but it never got released I think, except maybe as a white-label DJ record. To this day I keep checking random Fatboy Slim CDs in the record store just to see if it ever came out. You can find it on TH-cam by searching rockefeller skank and rolling stones.
The only Stormin’ Norman worth caring about! FatBoy Slim was one of the kings of the “Big Beat” scene which saw labels such as Skint and Wall of Sound emerge with a different club sound from house and techno, always cheeky, never taking itself too seriously good time vibes. Definitely worth checking out more of Norman’s work (other commenters have offered some great choices) but I’d recommend looking up Lo Fidelity Allstars (Battleflag), Propellerheads (History Repeating), Midfield General (Reach Out), Wiseguys (Ooh La La) and Les Rhythmes Digitales (What’s That Sound?) - all guaranteed to put a smile on your face! Big love to you all x
Fatboy Slim (real name Normal Cook) used to be in a band called The Housemartins. They had some good songs back in the day. The Housemartins "disbanded" and some former members formed The Beautiful South. They have some amazing tunes. Song for Whoever (love the lyric "I love you from the bottom of my Pencil Case...", A Little Time, Perfect 10....
This song riff comes from an old funk soul brother duo called Just Brothers - Sliced Tomatoes. So the lyrics "funk soul brother" is referring to that group and the song theyre sampling. Fatboy is from UK if Im not mistaken, Im assuming Just Brothers would have likely been played during the 'Northern Soul' era that swept the UK which led to Fatboy being exposed to and inspired by them.
Fat Boy Slim was actually in a popular 80s British band called The Housemartins. They were a good English new wave band. He got into electronic music in the mid 90s when the rave scene blew up.
"Weapon of Choice" is much better, although the video is probably what makes it great. Fatboy Slim was the DJ name of Norman Cook, the bassist and pianist for The Housemartins. Check out "Happy Hour" (a *serious* ear-worm of a song!) and "Think for a Minute" (very funny video).
As others here have already mentioned, Fatboy Slim is a DJ and this music is for dancing and having a good time in the club. Since I didn't see anyone else mention it, I'll just add that Fatboy Slim is the guy you see on the turntables in the video. And, as long as I'm commenting, I'll go ahead and cosign everyone else's recommendation for another Fatboy Slim song, "Weapon of Choice," bec it's a good song AND has an iconic video. "Praise You" is also good. ALSO, if you want to dive further into this dance/club/techno side of the 90s, you should also check out Prodigy, "Firestarter" (or "Breathe") and the Chemical Brothers, "Setting Sun". I think Amber in particular might dig the psychedelic sound of "Setting Sun."
Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim is a master of his craft. It's amazing to me that he put much of his music together using an old Atari computer and Cubase music software. He specialized in taking samples from old and often obscure records and collaging them together, and with very imaginative editing and arranging, created fun dance records. On this track he used samples from old sixties records by John Barry, Duane Eddy (the twangy guitar) and Brian Poole & the Tremeloes, rapper Lord Finesse and David Bowie, amongst others. In fact, to clear use of all the samples used he has ended up receiving next to no royalties for the track!
Fat boy slim(the guy on the decks blowing the bubblegum) huge worldwide hits, has had a big influence on many other DJ's and musicians that have followed through the years, think he still does huge free concerts on the beach in his home town.
Norman Cook went from being the bass player in The Housemartins (with Paul Heaton who went on to create The Beautiful South) to being a legend on the DJ circuit.
So, so glad to see you feeling so much better Jay. I've been very worried about you and Amber and the kids. We all need your messages of love and blessings at this critical time in our nation. Thank God you are back!

Fatboy slim aka Norman Cook was in the band freak Power, and their song "Turn on, tune in, cop out" is excellent
Fat Boy Slim was actually in a popular 80s British band called The Housemartins. They were a good English new wave band. He got into electronic music in the mid 90s when the rave scene blew up.
I haven't said this yet, but I'm glad you guys are back. I missed you.
I was a club DJ (side gig) for quite a few years. This song was a staple in the late 90’s.
Love this massive 90's dance classic! The transitions here are just next level.
"Praise You" has got to be next. Beautiful song with the most hysterical video
When this song came on, the club went crazy! You definitely need to hear “Praise You”.
Saw Fat Boy Slim live at Guarujá Beach, São Paulo-Brazil. One of the best GIG's ever! Fatboy live is raaaaaaaaaaaad totally lit
Love Fatboy Slim...Norman Cook is a legend who's done (and still does) so many productions throughout the last 40 decades. A very impressive catalog.
40 decades ? lol.
....😂😂 Isn't that absolutely great...400 years of Norman ??😂😂
We loved to dance to this in the 90s. Bit ravy bit drum and bassy....good vibes. Praise you and only weapon of choice are bangers too.
Great to see you guys back. Hope the sun is breaking through those clouds, Jay. 👍
Great to see you both! Next should be Weapons of Choice! Happy Hump Day!
Norman Cook went from being the bass player in The Housemartins (with Paul Heaton who went on to create The Beautiful South) to being a legend on the DJ circuit.
“That Old Pair Of Jeans”, “Gangsta Trippin”, “Weapon Of Choice”, “Brimful Of Asha (Norman Cook Remix)” just to name a few of his cool songs.
Gangsta Trippin!
So, so glad to see you feeling so much better Jay. I've been very worried about you and Amber and the kids. We all need your messages of love and blessings at this critical time in our nation. Thank God you are back!
