I really enjoyed training here. I've been doing martial arts my whole life and always wanted to go to China to train Kung Fu in the mountains. I went in summer so it was really hot but that was great because it added to the intensity of the training. I would reccommend this place.
They've really done a lot of new things to the place. It was really awesome when I was there about seven years ago, but it seems like the place is still standing and looking fancy. Should go there again at some point, great video! :)
We have been running for more than 14 Years with thousands of positive review on our website testimonials.html.and focus on improving the academy with strong discipline.Currently,in 2017 Year, there are nine professional masters in China Kunyu mountain academy that cover Shaolin kung fu,Wing chun,Chinese kickboxing,Taichi,Chi kung,Mantis boxing,Xingyi,Baji,Chinese massage etc,and the students included at least 30 long term course students as well as returning students, and In order to offer more comfortable living room for students, last year,we built the new building two years ago for students living room is single room or double room with ensuite independent bathroom and western toilet for each room.See more at Chineseshaolins(dot)com.and Feel free to email Kathy:academy@chinashaolins.com
This is far from the actual Shaolin Temple's version of training as we had to be up much earlier and do a lot more intense warm ups before we could start to train the basics which could last for hours. We wouldn't even do Sanda until we were familiar with the basics and or had prior training and even then what they showed us and what is drilled is drastically different.
Frank Bullitt it is different, yes! This is a very westernized school that specializes in western students from around the world. There are many different shaolin schools with different styles. I’m born and raised a city girl and I really enjoyed this one and would return. I don’t think I’d fare well without amenities etc, nor would I want to. That’s a different experience, not for me!
I'm looking into going I'm thankful for this video although I'm curious if there's something I should be prepared for , other then culture shock of course ,but what did you learn from your time there ,I'm curious because I'm thinking about going like I said before
The Lone Wolf You’ll have fun there! It’s a really nice starter experience that’s very international and not too traditional. It’s the type of stay that sticks with you for years after. Worth it! I’d recommend reading through all of the comments left here and on my other few videos, since many people have asked really pertinent and valuable questions (with a few being pointless morons but c’est la vie). You’ll meet wide reaching international connections there and I’m still in touch with some of the people I overlapped with! Hope you scoot over. I’m planning to go back one day when I have a kid - the youngest kids training (the sifu’s kids or kids there with their parents) were 5 years old and they were amazing!
hi love the vlogs!!! can u order things online to the acdemy while staying there, like protien shakes ect, and do u know how good and nutriousous the vegan food is there, (lots of love and wish u the best with your training)
Matt Harris Bodies were trained and minds calmed a-plenty. It’s not excessively traditional but was very enjoyable. I do like modern amenities and not having to share a dorm, but I’m princess like that. The bed was rock hard which was fine for me but some other people found it a shock the first week. This was a fun place to learn, train and meet other like minded international people from around the world under the supervision of rather impressive sifus and the minimum stay time is a month, but average stay time 2-6months because people get hooked on the place and regime. Some people stay years... over 6 years you need to enquire with the school. So there must be something to it!
thank you so much raven for the information ~ I just found out about this school. Joining a shaolin school has been my dream since I was little. I've always loved Buddhism and martial arts I was trying to find a place where I could learn more about Chinese culture and really emerge myself in it. I'm only 18, but I graduate soon so my family is going to let me join this school. I have a few questions can we stay for longer than 1 year? And also what are some things that you recommend bringing with me? I'm an 18 yesr old thick girl so I have no idea what I'd need haha. Also thank you so much for posting this, its so beautiful there I can't wait to join 😁💜
Hiya! So sorry to miss this for so long! Thanks for the positivity, hope you have visited and if not, then hope you are going! It's such a fun life experience for any age. I hope to get back with my (future) kid someday. Most important thing to take is FIBRE; flaxseed or psyllium husk. Anything fibre powder. The food is mostly rice, some veg and eggs eggs and more eggs. Because the intense exercise I found increased amounts of soluble fibre needed to drag toxins out. So : FIBRE, anti-inflammatories, LOTS of underclothing because you're constantly soaked with sweat, and if you can fit a small portable fan it would be useful in summer months as they only allocate them during certain times and it gets HOT with no a/c or other cooling. :) Also your own pillow if you need that.
Hi Jeremy! I was only there for a month but some other people stayed for multiple years. Cases varied but some lived off campus and some arranged deals with the school to teach mandarin, which is a free time class option along with acupressure. I may be mistaken but I thought one of the teachers was a former student who became a master and stayed on. :) Sorry I don't know about other schools but hope you can find the best one for you. Enjoy!
@@thecuriousraven398 What you saw during your month, did it seem like true authentic Shaolin martial arts, quality teachers and adequate living accommodations?
hey ! I'm thinking about going in September for a year . Do they offer enough healthy food to get very fit by the end of the year? I'm into body building and would like to still maintain some of that while I'm there :) thanks so much! your Vids are really helpful
Haha sorry to have to disagree with the school's reply! :P But most students there found it extremely difficult to maintain muscle as a result of basic food portions, high carb and lots of deep frying and oily chinese cooking technique. The food is mostly rice, eggs and some veg/meat but the meat is like sweet and sour pork styles and not lean steaks or western bodybuilding requirements. Furthermore, it's rather difficult to get 'clean eating' food anywhere in the area, and cooking is not allowed in the rooms. So vital to bring protein powders, dried meats, and lots of FIBRE supplements to help muscles heal from the outdoor training sweat / water loss. Hope that helps someone (as I'm guessing you've already gone!) :D
Sorry to be so late to this (and so many other messages, WAIL!) Yes you'll have to contact the school for details of pricing as the seasons and room types differ, as well as pricing for how long the duration of stay. :) Kunyu Mountain Shaolin Martial Arts Academywww.chineseshaolins.com

Apologies for late reply! I stayed a month and TBH was pretty hopeless; I had health issues and chronic inflammation beforehand which meant I was unfit and exhausted all the time (hence not very many videos.) People I knew therewho got the most out of it stayed between 3-6mths. The ones who benefitted the most in training were those with some previous martial arts background. But it was very fun as a challenge for beginners too. :)
I've got a few questions. Is it possible to train at Shaolin and work elsewhere during weekends? Also, what's the probability of death not kissing a vegetarian with all the intense training and lack of proteins?
The Curious Raven And this time I had a hysterical laugh! I guess I should rephrase my question to explain what I really wanted to ask. I was interested in knowing "If a vegetarian could die from the intense training and lack of protein rich food?" But your response far exceeded my expectations. Thanks for making my day Raven with that extra bit of information 😂
The reason I want to join is because I cannot hold a thought. I want to do a million things and since I want to do a million things, the burden of all those thoughts and overthinking is slowing me down and I do nothing eventually about anything. Lol, yes a typical case. Do you think joining Shaolin would help me with pace (speed) and getting rid of noise inside the head? What was your experience like? Also, is summer a good time to join since I know Shaolin's inflow goes up around this time and the attention of the masters gets divided.
What a beautiful woman you are. That didn't sound creepy at all haha. Anyway great videoes. Wish you went back there to do more training. Love and light X

Your two brain cells? I’m pretty sure you’ll need both of them for making other comparably intellectually stimulating comments under the anonymity of TH-cam. Bravo, idiot.
Saffron Maverick I was training during the hours of training hence only the speed shots of it over a few videos. You can go there yourself and do the training instead of watching my face. Thank you.
"You can go there yourself and do the training instead of watching my face" If only you had made TRAINING more visible & appealing in the video. That was my whole point . I did not mean to offend you "Raven's 1st Day of Shaolin Kung Fu Training" expects TRAINING more than anything else . Thank you once again .
Saffron Maverick Semantic pedantism. You seem to have somehow misunderstood (even after watching) that these videos are a diary of my personal experience and reflections at a Shaolin school, and this is the first day. You can find plenty of specific training videos elsewhere, so why the inanity? Hindered computation.
