RIGHT?? Giant Red Flag!! "Please come into this with no background knowledge of this company, less than zero training, and your ass literally on fire. No questions please!"
I work in a real marketing job (you know, one that pays, and is for a non-pyramid business) and ‘ignorance on fire’ is the exact opposite of marketing. Marketing is completely understanding the product, understanding the consumer, then figuring out how the two can work to achieve each other’s end goals. If I walked into work and said ‘alright guys, I have NO IDEA about our customers, and not a single clue what this item is about, but I have enthusiasm!’ then my manager would drag me back out by my ear and tell me to come back when I’m no longer drunk.
It drives me nuts when they take an incredibly common thing and try to force it into a “rags to riches” story. A couple sharing one vehicle? That is so normal!
Just playing devil’s advocate here, but just because something is common/normal, doesn’t mean it’s okay. Sharing a vehicle is totally fine though. More people should do it.
Yes I’m a stay at home mom to an infant, my husband works sales from home. My husband got into a wreck last Easter and I lost my 10 year old Nissan Rogue. Now we have a 2017 Kia Forte and even that is too expensive! 😝 we just don’t really need two cars. We barely use the one haha!
YES and I find it so distasteful. It reads to me as privileged people who never really suffered from poverty wanting to get the "points" for being poor. But they are so detached from what the actual "rags" story is bc of their privilege that they end up taking something completely normal and pretending it's somehow tragic and not even noticing the absurdity. AGH. It makes me angry. It just has this "no bread? let them eat cake" vibe.
absolutely *living* for the cat content in this video lol (as a cat mom, I can totally relate to the melting at your cat deciding to stay in your lap 🥺)
I don't what it is about this call in particular, but it suddenly hit me how weird it is to go to a "business call" and have the host just give their whole life story. I think it's ok to talk about your career path a little bit, but the amount of detail, her husband's job, her personal life, seems really uncomfortable.
I feel like they all want to stay in their fantasy world. They are not a business owner, she is not a real marketing representative for a legitimate marketing or advertising company. They do not have resumes that are reviewed and then go through the interview process, get an offer letter, accept the offer or counter and sign with the company. They do not receive benefits, 401ks. They dont meet with real clients who dont want to be recruited. These reps PAY the mlm to let them sell shampoo and recruit other people with exaggerated opportunities and their sad personal stories. They then spend all day posting more crap and fantasy bs on reels to try to lure others in to do the same thing! WTF??
That's how they get you. I almost got sucked into World Financial Group that way and the guy who was trying to recruit me told me how he was living in his car and could barely afford to buy food...and joining WFG changed everything for him. Crazy thing is this man was crying and I started crying because it was so heartfelt
If I went to a zoom call called "training" and had to listen to some random chick talking about her personal life for 30 minutes I'd be pissed. Like imagine going to a college class Economics 101 and then you just have to listen to the professor talk about why he's a professor... Like, what? I'm here for the class, not a novel! Must be the same with these zoom calls, like "I'm here to train and learn, what are you talking about? I don't care at all about you spending time with your hubbie." I don't understand how these zoom calls keep people invested. As far as I can tell, they're time wasted, even for the people within the company. Thanks for making these videos, they're great fun!
Yes to those in the middle! I was in the middle of the Young Living comp plan for nearly 4 years and could NOT move up no matter how much I tried. I always felt like those at the top made it sound SO EASY to sell and recruit. But I could have “classes” in person and online with 5-40 people and may only sell 1 or 2 kits… and very very few ever wanted to do the business… and the few who did were having a harder time making money that I was. But the vast majority of “trainings” just made me feel like I was terrible, like there was something wrong with me for not being able to succeed. When I would speak up about being stuck at my rank they would say, “just stick with it and you WILL succeed, the only ones who fail or the ones who quit” or “don’t say you are really doing ‘all the things’ because if you were really were then you wouldn’t be stuck”. So I just thought, I must be lazy and terrible at this business, there is something wrong with me that makes others not want to sign up with me. I’m glad I can understand now that it was never my fault, it was a pyramid scheme with products.
Yes... I fell for Younique and all we heard was 'fake it till you make it' and 'hustle.' If we weren't having a party every week we weren't hustling hard enough 🤪
This was the same with me. I got talked into selling Discovery Toys. There were about a hundred other people in my ZIP code selling Discovery Toys. First they let me believe that I could make money just selling and not recruiting. Well after 2 years, I never had a party, I never had a paycheck, I did nothing but boots at craft shows where we never sold anything because everybody showed their friends what they had already and maybe the friend bought it, but we never even reached the amount we had paid for the booth. I went to lots of meetings where I was berated and berated for not working my business hard enough. But I had never made a cent! So I quit and had to hear about how I had failed and it was my own fault. Whatever. I was so much happier afterwards.
Wow Mandi, instead of feeling like a failure you should honestly be giving yourself super kudos, for being able to endure 4 years in a pyramid scheme without getting any proper praise for the work you are doing and getting blamed when it didn’t work. What that tells me about you is, that if you were ever to attach yourself to a business opportunity that was designed for you to succeed, like marketing for a real actual business, the sky is the limit for you, given that you could tolerate being in a pyramid scheme designed for you to lose money for 4 years and not give up, tells me you are goal oriented, you are good enough and you will be super successful, you just need to put your energy into something that is made so you succeed not designed specifically so that only less than half a percent of ppl can succeed.
"I'm just a dumb girl, I'm not good at math or handling money. I'm just a pretty face who says funny things." Oh my barf!!! Is this really the stereotype a young, educated woman should be promoting in this day&age!?!? Gimme a break with that nonsense!
I don't think she's targeting educated confident women to be honest, that would be a hard sell demographic. I think she's also saying that to show that this business is so easy, you can do it even if you're not knowledgeable about business or finance at all.
A lot of MLMs target women who are not very financially literate, such as, for example, older housewives who have been dependant on their husbands’ income for decades and would struggle to start careers, or younger women who are struggling to find jobs but haven’t been exposed to the market very much. It’s all about exploiting a vulnerable audience.
I kinda like how all the anti-mlm TH-camrs have different mlms that they get sent a lot of content for. I enjoy how we get a lot of information on different companies depending on the creator!
From what I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a TON) every single anti MLMer gets sent Monat more than other MLMs, unless the creator is a former hun with a different company. Like I’m guessing Jessica Hickson for example gets a lot of itworks vids sent to her
My only encounter with a MLM was when I was invited to a neighbor's party selling Pampered Chef. I started laughing at all the specialized tools she was telling us were absolutely necessary to make a decent meal. I am a trained chef (trained in Paris) and the entire table of fancy specialized tools could be easily covered with one decent pairing knife. By the time you hunted down your Pampered Chef tool you could have easily accomplished what you wanted with a simple pairing knife. I was never invited back
You can tell you are an educator by trade. I think videos like yours are exactly what someone contemplating entering or leaving an mlm needs; a rational, thoughtful dialogue delivered with a calm and consistent cadence. As someone who saw the anti-mlm light a long time ago, I find some other creators fun to watch, but if I was still in an mlm, their content could be abrasive. Your content on the other hand I think is both entertaining and welcoming of all audiences.
'Ignorance on fire' is a terrifying phrase. All I can think about how much damage is done by people who don't know what they're talking about but are CERTAIN they're right. It's so destructive.
"Ignorance on fire" speaks volumes. One of their 'sayings' in the business is to openly admit that the reps just say whatever they want and make whatever claims and promises they want about the product as long as it sells and recruits.
I'd rather a business sincerely sliding in my DMs and asking me to check them out and not pretending to have any other intentions than a stranger pretend to care about me and pitch me a sale or an "opportunity". It's like these people forget to socialize as real human beings!
Same here! Maybe this sounds extreme, but I sincerely believe this sales pitch disguised as friendship should be illegal. I really do. It can be so destructive for those in a low place that I think it should be outlawed.
I think it's incredibly off-putting. I had someone message me on Instagram. I can't remember which company she worked for but I told her I wasn't interested 3 times and she wouldn't quit asking me when I thought I might be interested. I don't typically block people, but I blocked her.
Your theory about social media and your feelings of living an unfilled life is spot on. I had to unsubscribe from several accounts on IG because of this exact notion. I saw that I was comparing my life with theirs.
I took a detox from instagram and Facebook in November 2021.. it's been so soothing. That weird feeling I had before is gone. Now I feel more like myself. I'm thinking about going back on soon but I almost see no point.
@@maggiehern3530 I took a break with just fb first Aug 2019 and it was so freeing! Then I turned off notifications for IG & Twitter so if I hear about something that I want to see I log on but it isnt constantly popping up on my phone or computer. It has been wonderful! I feel less anxiety and my self doubt is the lowest it has been for years. The other benefit is control over who I share things with and no pressure to post everything like I did before. We are social beings but everyone has a level they are comfortable with. I even know a few people that were introverts and once the pressure to keep up with all of it was gone they became more social in person. Try turning off your notifications so it isnt a huge change. I really think you will love it. Btw ~I do have notifications on for certain TH-cam videos but they are completely different interactions than the others. I love the anti-mlm community and the supportive interactions.
This happens even when you have zero interest in flex culture. The only social media I use is goodreads and often I find myself upset when friends and connections read and/or review more than I do. So even though I read 158 books in 2021, across three languages, including Japanese, I still find myself feeling like I am missing out.
I have never been happier than I have been since deleting my Instagram and Facebook accounts. I have a group chat with my mom, sister, sister in law, and a couple of our mutual friends, and that's it, besides actually texting my friends. 😝
@@LaLa-xf7ku yes! 🥰 notifcations are off for everything on my phone as well, just this week I decided to turn on notifications for you tube channels i love and enjoy! hence why i am commenting now something i would have never done in the past however you tube is my only social platform at the moment. Very freeing 😌 I didn't like the constant dings coming from my phone either. I'm so happy to know I'm not alone ☺️ 😍 I also didn't get the ding tho, I have sounds turned off. I just used my phone at proper times off day now lol
Well, I've just done the conversion from Euros to dollars. My 6 figure annual salary gives me more than $11k per month. My company car is mine, no taking it back. I have medical cover, 5 weeks paid annual leave, paid sickness leave, shares and other benefits. The lowest paid member of my staff earns $2,500 per month. We are all highly educated and our company is just amazing. These MLM hustlers are just conartists. I fear they will pull in people who simply don't have the money to buy starter packs. Telling them to use their credit cards is shameful. Thanks for highlighting these cons.
I’m not from the US, I don’t know any of these companies from your videos, still I like to watch you (for over 1h) 🥺 We have our own MLM companies in my country and once I was stuck on a zoom call like that, but thank God I didn’t fell for it ! All I was thinking during that call, was “please God help”, now I’m just thinking “why I didn’t switch my modem off?” …. Anyway, it’s always a pleasure to see a smart woman putting so much work on educate other women not to fall into traps like those! Thank you for what you do!
The more of these I listen to, the more exhausted I feel. I thought one of the draws was supposed to be it was easy and you didn't have to work as hard and it fit into your down time. Now you have to do social media, stay on your phone, AND throw parties. It's ridiculous. I'm going to take a nap now.
I have to second the sound logic and calm demeanor when you pull back the curtain. It is soothing, it’s fascinating, it gives me hope that the message will continue to spread and help many to turn the other way when they are approached. Thank you to those who send the content, and thank you Hannah for delivering it in such a clean way. Not to discredit other major anti MLM channels. There are so many other fantastic women in this. But this is definitely your personal brand and I’m here for it! 👏🏻
Hannah, your beautifully calm demeanour and rational arguments make your videos so relaxing as well as educational. I love so many anti-MLM creators but your videos are the absolute best for helping me on days when anxiety takes hold. Thank you so much, love your content. ❤️
Omg Zeke is such a cutie pie 😸 Your math lesson absolutely floored me, that's insane! And wow does all that fake socializing they're telling people to do sound utterly EXHAUSTING, especially for an extreme introvert like me. Not to mention incredibly scummy and deceptive.
Ummm….how many ways can you say pyramid without saying pyramid? When she says the comp plan is designed to “grow wide”. If I picture her, one single person, at the top of a wider group of people….you don’t have to be a cheerleader to know that’s a pyramid, hun! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
You know what, I like your comment. Let me see how many times they do that. 1. Then you also STAIRSTEP to the next rank. 2. And also I laughed that the most important thing is to get those two people. Cos that's what a minimal pyramid is. 3. "One tiny bite eats the whole pie". You mean, as in one percent at the top takes all the money? 4. "You will never be as excited as in the beginning" correct, cos timing is key, the longer you are in, the harder it is, the more you understand it's a scam
Not at all related to the topic, but I am so happy for you that your channel has grown so quickly! I’ve been around since about 4,000 subscribers and am so excited to watch you grow!
Confirming your suspicions about how social media makes some people feel like “if they can do it, why can’t it?” I’ve totally felt this before when I’m particularly stressed with balancing work and home life. It’s actually why I started Poshmark and eventually found your channel! So I guess some good comes from it
9:35 As a GenXer, I saw the evolution of how MLM roped people in. The overall selling points were the same (being independent financially, time freedom, being your own boss) but the means to spread the message multiply with the decades and technology. Before the internet, it was either through in person meeting and/ or conference (Amway), product parties (Tupperware, Mary Kay), door to door (Avon) or through posting job ads (Cutco). With social media, it gives people more tools to reach people and sell the dream. She was saying that both her and her hubby were dissatisfied with their genuine jobs. Did either of them attempted to change employers within their respective domains? This is a detail that is conveniently left out. My hubby did changed jobs within his domain twice for the very same reasons the first lady stated. No MLM were involved in this process. OOT: Zeke’s so adorable.
Hannah, I love watching your videos before bed. You’re always so calm! The majority of your views by me happen when I’ve fallen asleep 😂 but I promise I go back and rewatch it all the next day when I’m awake.
Same here. Every single time I fall asleep then watch again the next morning. Double, sometimes triple the views. So glad to help Hannah out cause I love her ❤️
Hi Hannah. New sub here. You’re awesome! a few weeks ago, you did a video where you placed cult tactics info on the screen. It was great but I have a small suggestion. I’m hard of hearing and love that you have subtitles on! However, you placed your cult pointers in blue boxes at the BOTTOM of the screen. This means, those of us who have the subs on, wouldn’t be able to read the extra info without turning the subtitles off. Would you mind placing extra info at the top next time? There is a lovely space to the top right of you (as I look at the screen) Hope this is helpful for future videos. I did post a comment on the video this suggestion refers to, as well. Only posting on this video, to insure you see it. ❤️ Lots of love. Keep up your hard work, you’re a badass!
Lots of creators forget about screen placement. You see it on thumbnails too, where the video length obscures any words because they have positioned it across the bottom. There are a lot of little things to think about when you’re a one ‘man band. Feedback like yours is really important.
The noise I made at your air quotes of "genuine" was not human. I love how natural, calm, and well spoken you are! These videos are incredible and I'm so happy to go back and watch your deep dives, too.
I snorted when she said that all her recruits were acquaintances and that none of her friends or family were into that... almost like her family and friends know what's up 🤔😂
Definitely echo that sentiment that you and Chelsea express that their general advice for marketing on social media is sound but it just doesn’t work for an MLM. It’s almost like… they’re not actual business owners 👀 Pls send Zeke and Cooper my love 😭❤️ (and congrats on 23k! Well deserved and happy for you!)
In this day and age the irony of technology is that we have the capability to be so connected but are more disconnected than ever. To prey on the lonely is disgusting. This should be criminal
It blows my mind that they alternate between "you don't need to work; this opportunity is to help you be available at home" and "stop making excuses, you need to fill your calendar you need to be constantly making content, turn everything into a sales pitch" 🤢
This has happened to me. I was trying to make friends in my new city and I was trying bumble bff to meet people and I met a girl who I really liked, she was so smart and funny and really put herself out there and was asking me about my goals in life and invited me to an online event her mentor was hosting and it was during the depths of lockdown and I was suspicious but so desperately bored that I agreed. It turned out to be an Amway recruiting call! I was so disappointed that we didn't genuinely hit it off. I told her I wasn't interested and she probed why but wasn't overly pushy, which I appreciated. She was only 23 and married with a son and was so confident and sure that her life would be perfect and that she was building her dream life. Was a very interesting experience.
I love LOVE that you snapped a pic of your kitty and inserted it mid-call. I found your channel recently and I absolutely love you and the content you put out. You're always so detailed and prepared, and for whatever reason when you explain things it just clicks for me. Thank you!!
Gg😅osh when you broke down the numbers it was just like a mic drop moment . I wish anybody who has been in an MLM or is thinking of joining could just hear that portion of your video because it speaks volumes. especially when you mentioned the amount of VIP customers that monat has and if it were so easy how many they should have and they don't. that just was all the confirmation I would need if I were ever considering joining an MLM. and I agree it sucks that some people who have been roped into to this and may have lost money or may feel like a failure if they never found the anti MLM movement or were just never told that it wasn't their fault that they will go on thinking that they failed at this. that's why I'm so happy you're doing what you're doing and I love your content.
2 new market partners a month means 24 per year If all current US market partners in Monat recruit 2 new people a month, that's Year 1: 320 000 x 24 = 7 680 000 Year 2: 7 680 000 x 24 = 184 320 000 Year 3: 4,4 Billion people Year 4: 106 Billion people Totally doable, totally not a pyramid scheme.
Absolutely true that the overwhelming influence of social media has contributed so much to people feeling dissatisfied with their lives. Previously it was evident that the lives we saw in tv and movies was fiction. Now the line is blurred and it’s easy to think that the lifestyles we see on insta, fb and TH-cam are all real
I just found your channel several weeks ago. Honestly I sometimes watch your channel just for the kitty sightings. I have cats too, love them!! Great job on these videos. Trying to binge all videos. ❤
Would you ever do videos on those “tell me a name that starts with T and end with A to win $1,500” things. They need to be exposed too. I love watching your videos btw! You’re great!
I’m at home recovering from surgery and I’ve binge watched your videos the last 2 days. It’s been so much fun watching your follower count go up by 6K in the last 2 days🥳 Well done young lady. You are articulate, respectful and beautiful inside and out. How proud your parents must be! What a wonderful teacher you would have been. (And might still be, if you were to return to the profession) All the very best with your channel. Blessings💗
Hannah, I just want to say how beautiful you are inside and out. When someone has such a beautiful soul, their outer beauty shines as well. That is what my husband tells me all the time. :-D I always enjoy watching you and Zeke when he comes on. I love your transparency and your demeanor. You have such a calmness about you when you speak. I am so thankful for the anti-mlm community. I have learned so much more since coming out of the mlm I was in, 2 years ago. It's nice to hear your passion and where your heart is at. Thank you for all that you do for us and others out there.
i'm absolutely LOVING how for the past few videos you've started adding pictures of your cats when they come up to hang with you!!!! i'd always keep looking at the edge of the videos trying to catch a glimpse of them before hahahaha they're too adorable!!! and zeke's expression looking up at you before falling asleep at the end of this video just ended me your babies are too sweet
This is crazy I stumbled on your video!! I am that person who thought she was content and happy until I let social media influence me. Currently self analyzing my worth and where I’m at all the while trying to convince myself that my choice is actually ok. Great video, perfect timing thank you!
You make so many good points honestly I couldn't of said it better myself. Whenever I meet an mlm hun bot I ALWAYS know because of how they are glued to asking me about me and how complimentary they are and you can feel the predator vibes. It's not authentic. It's so gross. I watch these people pick their prey in public!
40:06 Yeah, I agree that the long game of befriending someone is way worse than cold messaging, I'm still sad about when that happened to me several years ago
Hannah- When you say to someone I don’t support MLM’s and they ask why, what would you say back? Like a short answer that gets your point across without explaining everything wrong with them 😂
Ugh wow such a good question 🤣 I would say something along the lines of “I’m familiar with how to find/read the income disclosure statements and I haven’t found an MLM that compensates it’s reps appropriately for the amount of work they do” Or something similar regarding how most people in MLMs are paid basically nothing 🤣
I just have to say this because I’ve never seen it brought up when discussing the car programs. When you actually have a hun that’s honest about the program, and they say “if you lose the car bonus, just return the car!”, that’s such bad advice! I’ve been in the finance field for decades, and any time you have a voluntary surrender of a vehicle, whether it was a lease or purchase, it will DESTROY your credit! Just had to get that off my chest.
That’s a good point! I didn’t know they said that. And most don’t even accept you just “returning” the car willy-nilly. The finance companies consider that a “settlement”, which hits your credit in a specific way. I guess you can’t expect anything better from people who tell you to “put it on a family member’s credit card” haha 😅
Completely agree in the thought that social media has greatly impacted & increased the thought processes of 'I don't have enough - my life isn't all that great - I haven't reached my goals/dreams -etc'. As scripture reminds us- in the 'later days' people will become 'lovers of self' -- social media has really sped that along in my opinion. Have a blessed day!
Haven’t even watched any of your videos for longer than 10 mins yet but you’re anti-MLM which means an automatic subscribe and like every video I see posted hah, let’s go algorithm! Excited to explore your channel :)
That actually hurts the algorithm more. It tells the algorithm that the video was not interesting and will not recommend the channel as much, if ever. Better to let the video play at 2x speed.
i dunno how i came across your channel, hell I have like no proximity or all that much knowledge of MLM's! but I have watched almost all your videos, you speak so eloquently and thoughtfully on this subject. Im all in!
FOMO is fear of missing out, and that’s what mlms lead on. Envy. (Your friend’s buying and getting free items when having a party, you should too! ) (we’re all going on a girls trip during a stressful pandemic, look how happy you can be too!)
Hannah!!! That spiel about the grass being greener was AMAZING! You have such a way with words that resonates so well. Thank you so much for sharing your brain and heart!
I dontcare alot about MLM but you absolutely have a beautiful voice and good story teller and I love listening to u I think you can cover a wide variety of topics besides MLM Keep the great work
Just discovered your channel today and have been binge watching. Interesting content. And adorable kitty!!! Not sure if this was an actual MLM, but WAY back in the 90's, I felt that "Pre-paid Legal" was a pyramid scheme. It was all about joining to get others to join. But now, when I look them up, it seems like it's a legit service??? Not sure.
We did an interview with a real lawyer on my channel who had several good reasons not to join the pre-paid legal type services - pretty sure it is mlm, but haven’t fully checked it out…yet…
Hannah - love your videos. I just discovered them and another creator on this platform as well about anti MLM and while reading through some comments, I read a comment from a lady (who I expect to be a MLMer) that was bashing this creator for using TH-cam as a platform to debunk MLM. Her statement went something like this - “You use TH-cam as a way to make money. And the only way you make money is if you grow your subscriber count and use other social media platforms to grow that subscriber count. So how is that any different from people in MLM’s do?” And while I think we already know the difference between the two, I think you need to touch on this! If you already have, forgive me as I’ve just started getting into all of your videos, but I have seen this used three times now as a rebuttal to anti MLM content and I think it’s ridiculous.
I've been asked to do so many different types of pyramid schemes it's ridiculous. This morning I woke up to a woman trying to get me in on one of her MLM fitness scams it just gets so old.🙄I'm never going to do a pyramid scheme. People try to deny that they are part of a pyramid scheme so they call them MLMs But they're really just pyramid schemes and they should be illegal in my opinion
Hi! Hannah, I just found you a few days ago and have watched like 5 videos so far and I am loving it!!!! I have been pressured into young living, Norwex, went to an Amway hotel “motivational” secret recruitment after thinking I made a friend. Same thing happened with young living and norwex. Thought I had a new friend. Nope! Did Mary Kay never sold a dang thing. I didn’t realize what these “opportunities “ really were until the last couple years. Totally blamed myself for not succeeding. Keep it up girl! You’re awesome!
This is my third post but I can’t help it - this second woman, after I was already fully disgusted, then co-opts an AA saying? “It works if you work it” - no, ma’am. No. Do NOT be even more disrespectful than you already are. Does she not understand how unbelievably disgraceful it is to apply a saying associated with people overcoming an addiction to alcohol to her exploitative POS garbage “opportunity”? Utterly repellent.
I will give her this-I have heard that used in so many contexts and even minored in Linguistics ( so I am adept at language/communication). And I HAD no clue that this was an AA aphorism. She probably didn’t either.
I remember one of the former LuLaRoe consultants in the docuseries LuLaRich who said that she was told the same thing. “It works if you work it.” Oh, come on…
What in a... I wonder who is paying for all these mimosa mondays and taco tuesdays. Also these ladys do not account for how many people that they recruit will never reach corresponding level for them to level up. You can recruit hundreds of people a month but if none of them go up in ranks, your rank does not move up as well.
Kid-napper/ kit-napper? I've listened to that bit like about five times now and I still don't understand what that term is meant to be, is that meant to be an internal term for people who buy kits but don't want to recruit?
Kit-napper! And yes, it’s when someone just buys the starter kit because they want a discount on the bundle of products but have no intention of “working the business”
@@HannahAlonzo Thanks for clarifying! Imho that's a pretty nasty name to call people who might not want to recruit but are still supporting the business/its sellers by buying into it, I'm so not here for that It's unsettling(though funny) to listen to this in the background while working and hearing phrases like 'I used to be a kitnapper' (when it sounds like 'kidnapper'), 'my hair is on fire' etc just filtering through. I'll rewatch this with more focus later, but I've had to skip back and replay things a couple of times to make sure I actually heard what I just heard lol
Zeke is melting my heart! What a sweet boy, he loves his Mama so much. Our 19 year old ginger tabby (my only child) passed last Friday and I am still literally crying my eyes out, but I love seeing happy kitties so much. It makes my heart feel good.
It’s crazy how much crossover there is between the content of “training” calls and opportunity calls. The speakers always spend so much time hyping up the company, which you’d THINK they wouldn’t have to do in a call with people who are already in it, and therefore presumably wouldn’t need to be constantly told how great it is because they’re living it! Right? It really brings home how much the real work of building and maintaining a “team” is continuously selling the opportunity even to people you’ve ALREADY recruited, to keep their belief in the dream alive as long as possible before they get discouraged by the reality of what they’re doing, which is spamming on Facebook and sending hey girl messages for next to no pay. I mean, imagine any other company that has to spend THIS much time and energy having its own employees keep convincing other employees how amazing their job is, to the point that it’s a standard part of every single business meeting. You are basically ALWAYS selling the dream, forever, because if you let up for even a second, your struggling downline might realize they’ve signed on to a bait and switch.
I work for US company in Europe and see the same corporate culture presented in these calls, only the people who speak during our work calls keep an air of professionalism. It is all there- the mandatory "start from the bottom" story, recruitment bonuses, hyping up the company for things that are not true, constant attempts to take over one's spare time, etc.
Looking at the population numbers they can only "count" with about 202M men & women in the U.S. (18-65). Subtracting the VIPs and MPs they already have about 199M left. Suppose they had this list of 199M and it was evenly divided among their current MPs, each MP gets to contact about 613 people. This means they would reach all the eligible U.S. population in 2 - 3 months. And then what 🤷♀ Are they going to sit outside colleges & universities and pitch to freshmen every fall and spring semester?
Love your content! I have a coworker who actually just became an Amway rep (I think it’s Amway but it’s an MLM nonetheless) and I feel so bad that I can’t get her to see the light, so to speak, and leave it. She’s a sweet kid, in her early 20s, and has already gone to the meetings they’ve had in other states. She peddles her supplements and things to our other female coworkers though not to me since she kind of knows I won’t support it. It’s driving me crazy, I feel so bad. She told me she knows it’s an MLM but it’s “a legit one, a real company”, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!? It makes me want to scream sometimes. Anyway, thanks for all these videos, they’re so informative and super funny when they need to be. Keep it up!!

“Ignorance on fire is better than analysis paralysis” has to be one of the most troubling and problematic sentences I have ever heard.
🤣🙌🙌🙌
So culty
RIGHT?? Giant Red Flag!!
"Please come into this with no background knowledge of this company, less than zero training, and your ass literally on fire. No questions please!"
I wanna shake her and say “no hunny. Stop drop and roll.” Have they never heard of fire safety???
King Julien's quote comes to mind: Quick, to the volcano, before we all come to our senses!
I work in a real marketing job (you know, one that pays, and is for a non-pyramid business) and ‘ignorance on fire’ is the exact opposite of marketing. Marketing is completely understanding the product, understanding the consumer, then figuring out how the two can work to achieve each other’s end goals. If I walked into work and said ‘alright guys, I have NO IDEA about our customers, and not a single clue what this item is about, but I have enthusiasm!’ then my manager would drag me back out by my ear and tell me to come back when I’m no longer drunk.
that last sentence sent me 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣

This!!!
This is excellent - I'm laughing so hard 😂
It drives me nuts when they take an incredibly common thing and try to force it into a “rags to riches” story. A couple sharing one vehicle? That is so normal!
Just playing devil’s advocate here, but just because something is common/normal, doesn’t mean it’s okay. Sharing a vehicle is totally fine though. More people should do it.
@@anon8068 I agree, but sharing a vehicle is normal because many people chose to. Because it's most of the time unessecary to have two cars.
Also her not knowing anything about rank, numbers, car or trip programs but just blindly running with it it SO SAD and a huge red flag.

Right! Those things wouldn’t even come up in a real business call or meeting 🤦♀️ so weird. It’s just a pathetic attempt to brainwash people.
WTF??
It’s supposed to feel like friendship. It’s not friendship.
She would sell her soul 🎸
That's how they get you. I almost got sucked into World Financial Group that way and the guy who was trying to recruit me told me how he was living in his car and could barely afford to buy food...and joining WFG changed everything for him. Crazy thing is this man was crying and I started crying because it was so heartfelt
I’ve wanted to be a lot of things in my life but “ignorance on fire” is the absolute worst thing I can think of
That was some next level nonsense! "Share it like crazy even though you don't understand it!"
Ma'am, WHAT??
What does that even mean?
I read your comment about 4 seconds before she said it. I thought you were making that up, like a parody. Nope! She actually said it. Unreal.

That's the perfect definition of an MLM: a pyramid scheme with products. So glad you're outta there.
Yes... I fell for Younique and all we heard was 'fake it till you make it' and 'hustle.'
If we weren't having a party every week we weren't hustling hard enough 🤪
Very problematic. She's exactly the kind of person MLMs target.
“I didn’t really understand the numbers part. I just manifested a Cadillac”
Does she hear herself. Who believes this crap
Like I’m guessing Jessica Hickson for example gets a lot of itworks vids sent to her
Of course the anti mlm-er with the prettiest hair has monat content 😂
My only encounter with a MLM was when I was invited to a neighbor's party selling Pampered Chef. I started laughing at all the specialized tools she was telling us were absolutely necessary to make a decent meal. I am a trained chef (trained in Paris) and the entire table of fancy specialized tools could be easily covered with one decent pairing knife.
By the time you hunted down your Pampered Chef tool you could have easily accomplished what you wanted with a simple pairing knife.
I was never invited back
Never invited back? You won!
They hate when you laugh at them!
I will assume that it’s the fault of autocorrect, and that as a chef, you know how to spell “paring knife” 😂

I had to do a metaphorical double take on that phrase. Like did she actually say ignorance on fire? Almost self-aware wolves material…
Right?! #hunbots
I think it's incredibly off-putting. I had someone message me on Instagram. I can't remember which company she worked for but I told her I wasn't interested 3 times and she wouldn't quit asking me when I thought I might be interested. I don't typically block people, but I blocked her.
I would roast someone if they pulled this sleazy crap on me. It’s positively ghoulish and predatory.

As a GenXer, I saw the evolution of how MLM roped people in.

Lots of love. Keep up your hard work, you’re a badass!
Lots of creators forget about screen placement. You see it on thumbnails too, where the video length obscures any words because they have positioned it across the bottom. There are a lot of little things to think about when you’re a one ‘man band. Feedback like yours is really important.

It’s almost like… they’re not actual business owners 👀

First girl was my upline. She asked me what I was doing for personal development anytime i told her I was struggling to recruit.
She was mine too! Though I was never invested enough for her to reach out/give advice before I quit 🙈
Yeah, eff her.
2 new market partners a month means 24 per year
If all current US market partners in Monat recruit 2 new people a month, that's
Year 1: 320 000 x 24 = 7 680 000
Year 2: 7 680 000 x 24 = 184 320 000
Year 3: 4,4 Billion people
Year 4: 106 Billion people
Totally doable, totally not a pyramid scheme.
YUP! 👏🏼 Gotta love that exponential math!
Absolutely true that the overwhelming influence of social media has contributed so much to people feeling dissatisfied with their lives. Shewwwwww if someone messaged me and was like “can I plug you into a Facebook group” I would run EVEN FASTER than a normal pitch
Hannah- When you say to someone I don’t support MLM’s and they ask why, what would you say back? Like a short answer that gets your point across without explaining everything wrong with them 😂
Ugh wow such a good question 🤣 I would say something along the lines of “I’m familiar with how to find/read the income disclosure statements and I haven’t found an MLM that compensates it’s reps appropriately for the amount of work they do”
Or something similar regarding how most people in MLMs are paid basically nothing 🤣
I've never heard that said. wow, I can't believe they think it's that simple.
@@Momnpop98 by commenting on it, liking it, finishing it, and subscribing? 😅
@@reanndacli3421 yes. At least from what I've heard from some other tubers during their videos.
I seriously cannot handle Zeke in this video, and the clear love you both have for each other. My heart 😭💜
i dunno how i came across your channel, hell I have like no proximity or all that much knowledge of MLM's! but I have watched almost all your videos, you speak so eloquently and thoughtfully on this subject. Im all in!
“Ignorance on fire…” sure is. Sure is ignorance on fire, burning people’s lives away in these pathetic cults.
FOMO is fear of missing out, and that’s what mlms lead on. Envy. (Your friend’s buying and getting free items when having a party, you should too! ) (we’re all going on a girls trip during a stressful pandemic, look how happy you can be too!)
FOMO is the path to the MLM. FOMO leads to Envy. Envy leads to coveting. Coveting leads to DMing Huns.
Omg I love the cat nose bopping the camera 😍😍 here for it
Hannah, your channel is growing like crazy! i’m so proud of you, you deserve 100k! ☺️❤️
Hannah!!! That spiel about the grass being greener was AMAZING! You have such a way with words that resonates so well. Thank you so much for sharing your brain and heart!
I feel like this call is gonna be a symphony of cliches. The talking points never change.
And a lot of "right?" Right? Right?
I dontcare alot about MLM but you absolutely have a beautiful voice and good story teller and I love listening to u
I think you can cover a wide variety of topics besides MLM
Keep the great work
Just discovered your channel today and have been binge watching.
Yes, they def adopted the pyramid, MLM, marketing style. They were bought out in 2011 & are now known as ID Shield & Legal Shield.
Hannah - love your videos. I just discovered them and another creator on this platform as well about anti MLM and while reading through some comments, I read a comment from a lady (who I expect to be a MLMer) that was bashing this creator for using TH-cam as a platform to debunk MLM. Her statement went something like this -
“You use TH-cam as a way to make money. And the only way you make money is if you grow your subscriber count and use other social media platforms to grow that subscriber count. So how is that any different from people in MLM’s do?”
And while I think we already know the difference between the two, I think you need to touch on this! If you already have, forgive me as I’ve just started getting into all of your videos, but I have seen this used three times now as a rebuttal to anti MLM content and I think it’s ridiculous.
Every event she lists at 1:15 sounds nice IF I weren't going to get pressured into buying an overpriced product or "starting my own business."
You just taking pictures of your kitty and cuddling with them is a whole mood and saved my sanity in this video
I hear huns say that all the time and it always irks me 🙄
I will give her this-I have heard that used in so many contexts and even minored in Linguistics ( so I am adept at language/communication). And I HAD no clue that this was an AA aphorism. She probably didn’t either.
These huns use recovery terms a LOT. Yeah, equate your pyramid scheme to people trying to rebuild their truly messed up lives.
Imho that's a pretty nasty name to call people who might not want to recruit but are still supporting the business/its sellers by buying into it, I'm so not here for that
It's unsettling(though funny) to listen to this in the background while working and hearing phrases like 'I used to be a kitnapper' (when it sounds like 'kidnapper'), 'my hair is on fire' etc just filtering through.
Oh, I'm so sorry for the loss of your sweet kitty. Hugs
@@maryeckel9682 thank you so much ❤
It’s crazy how much crossover there is between the content of “training” calls and opportunity calls.
"If you're not embarrassed by your first version, then probably you didn't start soon enough"
Can ANYONE explain how those two things correlate????
Looking at the population numbers they can only "count" with about 202M men & women in the U.S. (18-65). Subtracting the VIPs and MPs they already have about 199M left. Suppose they had this list of 199M and it was evenly divided among their current MPs, each MP gets to contact about 613 people. This means they would reach all the eligible U.S. population in 2 - 3 months. And then what 🤷♀ Are they going to sit outside colleges & universities and pitch to freshmen every fall and spring semester?
They've already started on students.
Isn't solicitation at work a problem?
@@sadrabbit53 I believe she’s stopped so that’s a positive at least
