To all the A10 drivers out there I would like to tell you there are no words I can think of that can express my gratitude, I owe you my life!!!.. You kept my position from being overrun near Shi kot Through your expert gunnery I still Have a life, when we heard your engines we cheered and knew we were gonna be ok.. Guardian angels everyone of you.. Thanks Fellas...Doc..
There is nothing like the bone-chilling sound of hearing an A-10 coming in. Not chilling because you're scared, but chilling because you're proud, chilling because you know you're probably going to be ok, chilling because you know those guys shooting at you are about to get fucked right up, or at least tuck tail and run. Same goes for the Cobras and Apaches, and as you said, there's those of us that can't thank those eyes in the skies enough. Also, thanks to you and all your compadres, doc. Semper Fi
@@mikemi47 Thank you sir!. It's a shitty feeling knowing your going someplace and have no high ground no advantage so thank God for CAS and marksmanship and the sheer will to absolutely vaporize everything in front of you
Doc, Just as you can't find words to express your gratitude twords the Warthog Pilots, I too have a hard time expressing my gratitude for you & your brothers that gave you time, dedication, & sometimes lives fighting to keep us safe from our enemies that wish to do us harm. My twin brother flew on recon missions on the U.S. Navy P-3 Orion attached to the 5th fleet. Since Afghanistan and Iraq both had no Navy let alone any subs, his Unit flew over the battlefield in both conflicts. God Bless you, Your Family, & God Bless America. You guys truly make this the Land of the Free & the Home of the Brave. M.J.C. Philadelphia PA.
As a former infantry Marine in Iraq in 03, I can say that we too LOVE this plane. It saved many of us and Marines on the ground do NOT want to see the AF get rid of this aircraft. NOTHING beats this aircraft. While the F-35 can get on station quicker, it is the ONLY advantage. The A-10 can carry more, linger longer, and has a reputation of scaring the enemy by just being heard in the sky. Respect and love to my brethren Army Infantrymen and the skilled Air Force pilots who fly this bird.
32 years of Army service, countless tours of Iraq and Afghanistan till 2012, A10 drivers are the shit. Every soldiers loves the A10 and the pilots who fly them. Thank you all from the boots on the ground. When you low on ammo, and that A10 shows up.... hard to express.
My best friend is a purple heart disabled Army Captain (Infantry). He told me that if an A10 driver walks into an Army bar they do not drink alone and they do not pay for anything for as long as they are there.
I should have said they are classified as pilots. I use to run with a few of them. When people asked what they did a lot of the pilots would say “I’m a hog driver”
I reckon I agree mate in my eyes that so called ugly hog is a thing of beauty and her sound now there's a noise that strikes more fear into your enemy than the stuka
As an 11Bravo, PH recipient and platoon RTO, I can honestly tell you that these pilots are spot on, and true to the mission. I've personally coordinated fire with them in Iraq, and thank god they were there. Sometimes they would just do a fly-by and unload a few seconds of mini-gun burst "Show of Force" in an empty field and the enemy combatants would scatter like cockroaches when the lights come on. As an infantryman.. the A-10 (and the Apache/Kiawah helicoptors) are life saving hero weapons platforms. The moral boost that it gives us infantrymen on the ground also cannot be overstated. The guy in the video said it best, "That sound just drives 11Bravos nuts." Exactly.
@AboDabo Dabo maybe, but that decision is far beyond me.. and you make that statement and yet.. here you are watching videos on the A-10... don't make me laugh
People need to learn that Moral is everything on the ground, if you don't have Moral or a good leader, you hear anything from the "enemy" and you're team will instantly skatter, or lockdown and not do anything. Having Air support and A10 will bring that moral to 11
Best HOG video and story on TH-cam. As a retired Trauma Physician at a Combat Support Hospital (CASH) in Afghanistan, you cannot believe how many JTACs have said the A-10 drivers saved so many lives on the ground. To all the HOG drivers out there, thankx for your service - Jordan Barnett, MD, FACEP -- Thomas Jefferson University Hospital; Philadelphia
Ground troops definitely appreciate what the docs do too. My life was saved at Salerno via heart massage after being hit by a suicide bomber. The doc that saved me basically lives in Afghanistan. As far as I know, she is still there.
I tracked, via some not very acceptable means, the treatment of all of my guys who were wounded and medically retired. Your name did come up more than a few times. Thank you for taking excellent care of my brothers in arms, Doc! Thanks as well, to AF, Army and Navy for your cover. Can't mention Marines, as their a corps of the Navy. Usually, a jibe, but the reality under law. If you served, you're a brother or sister in arms, but those that got to see that, do that, do take priority. Once you experience it, you'll understand.
Stephen Villano What kind of bullshit are you spewing here? The Marine Corps isn’t a “corp” of anything you dumbshit, and I assure you, if you were a Navy Corpsman, your ass was covered by Marines more than any other branch....... but then again, you were probably one of those fat lazy ass Corpsman, who hated Marines because they held you to a standard...... GFY
War is too full of adrenaline now. It used to be all about sitting with dead bodies for months on end with out being able to stand up while the entire time constant shelling reshapes the land around you vibrating you to your bones. Not to mention you’re literally starving to death and will die if you drink the disease ridden water running through your trench. If war was still this way people wouldn’t be for it. Nor would the soldiers talk about it like they’re playing in the NFL.
@@harleyk101 I and my peers never talk about war like it's a game. It's real, it's ugly and we like it that way, to give pause to those who do think of war as a game. But, we also greatly appreciate our brothers and sisters in arms, who have quite literally saved our lives. So many mutual aid missions ended well, just because we brought JTAC and some ornery old SOB who could call off accurate 10 digit grid coordinates well under a minute. If the air support lacked a laser reading capability, the coordinates won the day. Hint, we're talking 1 meter accuracy. But, war is always full of adrenaline, by it's nature, it's either killing time or Killing Time, with all of the adrenaline one wants to avoid after a few experiences. And I'll never be apologetic for surviving and the other guys didn't manage that feat.
To all the USAF Pilots out there, thank you. You took me to and from Iraq and Afghanistan and saved my butt during several fights in both countries. This is our generations Huey, and it similarly inspires strong feelings when i hear its brrrrtts.
I saw my first A-10 in September of 1987 in Myrtle Beach, SC. There once was a US Air Force Base there, and the A-10's would fly up and down the coast wagging their wings to us tourists. Base shut down in 1991, but my dream lived on. I remembered the whine of their engines and how you could see their pilots sitting upright in the cockpit as if their pride for being in command of such a machine should be known to everyone! I graduated high school in 1999, and the USAFA in 2003, and was lucky enough to not only be able to enter flight training, but after nearly three and a half years of ruthlessly selective flight training, I found myself in the cockpit of one of the last remaining active duty A-10 II squadrons in the world. That being the 25th Fighter Squadron based out of Osan Air Base. I can't even begin to tell you what it feels like to fly this aircraft. It's the most directly connected flight control system remaining outside of Piper Cubs. When you grab the stick, you can feel the cables controlling the flight control surfaces, or at least you think you can. Fighters, and attack aircraft are all like super cars, and flying the A-10 must be equivalent to driving a Porsche. It isn't the fastest super car, nor the most complex, but it's the one that the pilot most feels completely connected to the frame, and the one that you can still rely on to make a grocery run with on a rainy day. I have flown many air frames, and nothing has ever come close. The A-10 II was nowhere close to being the most modern, but every time your ass hit the seat you knew that plane would do whatever you asked it to do. Amazing experiences. I fly for a large freight company with purple and orange, mostly three engine equipment now, and miss the feeling of that unbelievably reliable, yet testy little bitch every single day.
Thank you Mr. Fed Ex for your service. Like the reliable A-10 I ship FE because I know men like you will get it there if humanly possible. Lived in Memphis and loved to go off-site near the end of runway 27 and watch your stacked approaches in the dusk.
I'm a former A-10 Weapons Load Crew member for this Squadron depicted in this video and I gotta say that was the best damn deployment I've ever been apart of!
I mean, you could attach a different plane to that Cannon. Or a new Cannon, maybe a better Cannon. But unless you actively try to recrrate the A-10 it's really not possible to replace it, especially not with multirole aircraft. You can't use guided munitions for extend ground support, they run out too quickly.
It's not even just the cannon. It's the depleted uranium ammo for the cannon too. Surely they can update and improve the ammo & cannon system. After that, modernize the concept of the plane but all this costs money and leads to dirty contracts for gear that doesn't perform perhaps. The men on the ground are definitely worth the cost so I think updating the aircraft is the best plan till anti grav flight systems come online or something ground breaking.
Quite literally, the aircraft was built around the gun which is why the front landing gear is offset. The cannon sits right on the centre line of the aircraft. The Air Force wanting to take it out of service is not the real Air Force, but a collection of incompetents that are all REMFs. Probably the same ones that think the F-35 is a hot ticket. *That* mistake is going to get a lot of people killed, not that they care because politics and money, baby. The guy on the ground in 'Stan is just a number to them.
john harris Also a former 11B and I’ll miss that platform also.. whenever they or the Apache was on scene it was like deadly angels sent to protect and to remove souls from the battlefield... I have seen the A-10 live fire on the range at camp atterbury in Indiana several times before one of our deployments.. but only saw it twice ( each time several runs) in actual combat. It must be scary AF to be on the wrong end of an angry warthog. Thanks for your service brother
willrobd is that so? So the men handing out water, candy and other forms of aid to children is bullying? The men and women building roads and wells for the Afghans are bullies? You are a fool, an idiot. The afghans appreciate our loss of life in effort to rid their beautiful country of these monsters. These monsters strap bombs to children and dogs. But the young men and women serving the world thousands of miles away from home, they are the bullies?
@@riotdrone well unfortunately some asshole decided to attack us while hiding in a cave in Afghanistan. Collateral damage. Sucks that the whole country had to endure us coming in to stomp Al Qaeda/ Taliban ass. We are trying to "bully" them out of the stone age. My MOS was 0311. That air platform is unable to be replaced. I’ve seen The Taliban run without the A-10 even firing a single shot. Because they know what will happen if it does. My FOB was in the southeast of Afghanistan. Those pilots are nothing short of hero’s in my book. There are a lot of us who wouldn’t be here today to tell our story without that aircraft. Please keep this plane formgz
I was 0811. Never saw combat. Served under President Reagan. We need to keep A-10's. Like you said. Bad guys run and hide just at the sound of those engiines. Artillery in the sky. PERFECT WEAPON. Unless you are the target.
I'm an Australian digger, and by God, I wish every day we had the A-10 in support. Mortars, artillery, tanks and machine guns are all amazing in their own perfect environment, the A-10 provides surgical fire support perfectly in every environment. Huge support for you blokes from Down Under, wish we had ya.
It would be very beneficial for American troops but also for all our allies like Australia, New Zealand, UK, Canada, Japan and many others that have been held down in the same trenches, fields or buildings as US soldiers have by enemy fire in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Iraq over the last 25 years+. Within minutes of the call out to the nearest A-10's loitering off in the distance you hear that familiar BRRRAAAAAPPPP sound made by that mean 30mm gatling gun expelling the 30mm rounds, followed by BEEEUURRRPP, as each large round delivers it's own sound as they go 3X's the speed of sound or 2,375mph breaking the sound barrier. To finish it off it's the A-10 itself with the noise as it's whistling of those GE engines catch your ear. They need to be updated to give us a good 35 to 40 year extension, instead of the 15 to 20 years we have now. All new glass cockpit, AESA radar, more powerful engines and the ability to use Hellfire missiles along with many others weapons to enhance it's lethality range. They need to fill the gap between the 30mm gatling gun to the mighty AGM-65E Maverick that can turn any present or future main battle tank into a mist of metal.
That would be the Eurocopter Tiger. Hasn't made it onto the battlefield yet, its been in service over 11 years but had a lot of malfunctions and problems.
Good to hear there are still tough Aussies in "Feminist/Marxist occupied" Australia. Great movie about your true exploits in WW2 - "ATTACK FORCE Z!" G'day mate!
@San Sanka You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The courage shown by our Canadian Cousins was 2nd to none in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam (along with the Aussies). Chances are that any of Canucks in those regiments could mop the floor with you.

I’m a Vietnam vet of the Big Red one. We had a very different experience in that combat was much closer. Not much distance between us and Charlie. Only the rice paddies were open like this. Same sounds though and at night our red tracers and their green tracers bouncing off trees. Our close air support was attack helicopters. They were wonderful pilots who flew treetop level with guns blazing. Man these A 10 planes and pilots are terrific and stunningly powerful. That buzzing sound is impressive.
Was a medic with a Air Cav Unit in rvn , probably some of the same A.O's as you . Was lll Corps all over . Anyway I'm thinking these A10's are what our Snakes and D models and Loaches were to us . Proud to have been a structural maintenence mechanic working on A-10's with the 354th FS. I love the thunderbolt ll. Best close air support platform ever built.
The A-10 Warthog has been my favorite aircraft since I was a 10 year old kid! We live 120 miles from a training airbase and these guys would run training missions over the river 2 miles from us. The pilots would circle over the area and make multiple low level passes and I could hear them as they were passing over , they couldn't have been more than a few hundred feet over the trees. If I was outside I would wave at them in attempt to get a response. There was one particular day that I will never forget, two of the pilots were running back and forth over my parents field doing the low level passes and I was waving to beat the bandit. One of the pilots made a low level/ slow speed pass , made a swooping turn, came back across and tipped the wing down and I could see him clear as day, head turned looking right at me, he gave me one of those quick, cool, relaxed hand waves. I will never forget that! Left a huge impression on me. I don't know who he was or where he is now, but he is forever in my memory along with the sound of those planes. I have never been off the ground in a plane but if I could choose to take a ride in anything in the air, it would be an A-10 Warthog 1000%. Thank you to all the pilots out there who love these planes and want them to guard our ground forces for many more years. If I was impressed that much as a 10 yr old civilian kid, I can't imagine how much relief and comfort the A-10 pilots bring to our young soldiers on the ground in their time of need... Keep them in the air as long as possible, the planes and pilots both!
In 2019, my wife and I were driving North toward Tampa when we saw 4 A-10s in pairs of 2 doing runs across the road and back. We stopped to watch the show. At one point, we thought they were gone, so we continued driving. Next thing we know, they did a few more runs, so we stopped again and this time got out of the car taking photos while they did multiple passes back and forth. Apparently, their drills were over, and this next part brought tears to my eyes. All of a sudden, they lined up one behind the other, circled directly overhead with their wings tipped toward us. After that, they reformed and headed back to McDill. Part of me wasn't surprised they saw us - they always have their eyes on their fans on the ground. Some of those fans owe their lives to the Hog Drivers, others are just speechless.
I agree! Either upgrade or commission a true replacement or both. You can't just remove something so integral to our boots on the ground without a legitimate replacement. It's common damn sense. The DoD needs to talk to the actual troops and see what they actually want and need.
A-10C is an upgraded version of what flew during Desert Storm. Ltc. Solomonson who was the Flt. Lead with John Marks was an UAL 777 and told the crew including me about the unclassified parts of the mission.
I was in way back in the70s and i remember the A 10 flying around Ft. BRAGG ,That thing was bad ass you never see it coming in until its right up on you .i could imagine the enemy shittin their pants when them 30mm rounds start exploding around them.
Nope, ask any marine on the ground what he feels when an A-10 strafes a position. The F35 costs billions compared to the A10. You are obviously just repeating something you have heard, the A10 is one of the best CAS aircraft out there, not to mention how long it can circle an A.O to give constant support. People think it's still old technology, it gets upgraded constantly with new weapons, cameras, thermals and the rest. Dont fix it if it's not broken.
It's gratifying to see the airborne patch on the sleeve of an Air Force man. So, too, I am proud that ground forces of all branches trust and rely on Air Force support to achieve their common goals. Thank you for your service, every man and woman of the United States Armed Forces. Andrew L. Miller, Sgt (Ret), USAF
Nothing will ever replace the A-10!!! As a ground pounder there isn’t anything much sweeter to my ears than hearing that gun and knowing he’s on our side.
The avionics were upgraded on all A-10's in the last few years. About a month ago, Boeing receive a contract to install new wings on all of them, so that they could fly til 2040+.
Much love and respect for these pilots, ground crews, and aircraft. We need these aircraft in our aresenal. Sincerely, A guy who was one of those 18 year olds with rifle.
he said the enemy broke contact because of effective fire, the enemy moved out because they knew the a-10 was coming too... enemy infantry fear it more than you think... it is a very effective and a morale boost for our troops and fear to the enemy
Hitler used the same tactic, he equipped his stuka bombers with wind powered sirens, so when they dived in for a run they would scream towards the ground, must have been terrifying for the troops on the ground
Anytime i watch videos about the a10 and i hear the gun sounding like a giant zipper is opening the sky, i get a big smile on my face, and a happy warm feeling inside!!
@@Folker46590 And you wont make it home with damage in a Tucano either. It would be the biggest blunder the US has ever done while putting its pilots at risk.
@@pwengineering9070 Been looking up stuff on the OV-10 Bronco and Boeing had a modernization plan for it, but the military wanted something they could use now and not in two years. Morons. The ground support OV-10 looks really cool too.
To Scream Peace - Thank you for this video. To pilots, crews and all who serve this great nation - Thank you. 44 years ago I moved to AZ and was involved with the A10 for the first time. My step father helped design equipment to test and repair the GE 701 engines of this amazing aircraft. The A10 is the first line close support fixed wing as the AH64 is the first line close support rotary. I am grateful to all who have taken that oath and I share what I can from my experiences with my children and grandchildren to help build their support and love for this nation and all who serve it. Keep up the good work, stay safe as you possibly can and return home to your families when you can.
I think the main advantage the A-10 will always have against the F-35 is the time with weapons on target plus the time it takes between passes. The A-10's slower speed and high maneuverability means longer times on target and shorter time between passes. Battles are still won on the ground and CAS missions will always be an important if not deciding factor in ground battle victories.
My Father was an Engineer on the A-10 at McClellan AFB. Among other things he helped redesign the avionics compartment latch locks. Why would he do that you may ask? Because the old latches used to pop open when the gun was fired. Apparently, the pilots didn't care for that. I can't tell you how cool it was for me to be an infantry grunt and have the A-10's show up.
Thank you and your father you definitely have one hell of a perspective on the A10 Just had a feeling your father was literally looking out for you and for the other troops and Pilots 🇺🇸🤙
Fun facts: -The A10 is due to stay in service up in 2030 -The vast majority of CAS missions are still performed by Vipers. - F35 is replacing F16 and F/A18, not A10.
@@Ontarianmm There's a niche to fill for sure. You cant have Vipers and Bugs do all the cas issions all the time, even when there's no AA threat. That is a the role of the A10.
sh0ckv3l sorry for the dumb question, but what is a bug or a viper? Only thing i could find was viper being a AH1 variant, if thats what you mean. No idea about bug though.
This is exactly correct. Vipers/Hornets and even B1's saved my ass way more often than hawgs in A-stan. I still love the A-10, but I'd have died multiple times if I'd had to wait for the A-10's slow ass to get all the way out to my FOB. The technology on faster aircraft is significantly improved over what it was when the warthogs started to provide CAS.

Thing is it’s hard for us to produce more of them since the cockpit is pretty much a bathtub of titanium and Russia stopped selling us titanium after they realized what we were using it for
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD Yes, they are "replaceable", but at what cost? At the cost of the lives of our men on the ground? Fact of the matter is that a multi-purpose F-16 just isn't as good at this job as a purpose-built A-10.
@@AlvinGuoSubscribe "but at what cost?" - mind you the same question applies to keeping the A-10. At what cost will we keep flying airplanes that were estimated to be shot out of the sky at unacceptable rates versus 1980's Soviet Russia? At what cost will we keep flying an aircraft we figured out couldn't do its own job as well as the F-16 back in 1991? At what cost will we insist on trying to revive a production line for an airplane made by a corporation that doesn't even exist anymore? "a multi-purpose F-16 just isn't as good at this job as a purpose-built A-10." - and yet it is... In 1991 the F-16 performed more CAS missions with fewer losses than the A-10.

Back in Colorado near the Airforce Academy.... I remember coming out of a building in middle school and having 3 A10s come out of nowhere and fly right over us ,and we never heard them coming. All I felt was this compression, and a feeling I can't describe, like silence, and something coming at you,so I turned and they were right there, right there. Took my breath away,I was so blown away by what I was seeing above me... They were doing an airshow nearby...single moment of both awe,and having it scare the bejezzus out of me. It wasn't until I was at a live fire exercise at night that I heard that nose gun the first times as they did runs south of us. You'll never forget the sound of those engines...that gun firing in the nose. I fell in love with this plane the first time I saw it,and the sound and seeing what that plane could do,just WOW! I don't think anything should be changed, that plane will always be the single most frightening amazing fighter plane ever. A flying tank of a plane with a metal raining gun...that sound is unlike anything you'll ever hear, really!
the first time i saw the a10 was at white sands NM. it would dip into these 10 foot river beds and then pop up off to my right pointed at me never heard a thing. I'm army ,fell in love with the A10 !
I was pretend killed by 2 A-10s in a field exercise in Korea. We were packing up at the end of the 30 days and 2 A-10s happened by. They spun around and did a strafing run right on top of us, shot straight up and made a 90 degree turn then came around for a 2nd run. My response for things like that is always, "damn I'm glad they're on our side", but they were truly awesome to see. If I were a Taliban fighting against these beasts, I would throw in the towel and look for live virgins on the beach in Bimini. I had seen the Thunderbolt in pictures but I fell in love with it that day. I believe they should continue to update their capabilities and maybe build more of them, my guess is that Rep. Martha McSally agrees with me. The enemy already know to fear them and they work. Who cares if the gun can't kill today's tanks, isn't that what Hydras and Maverick missiles are for? They might even give it more Air to Air capability. The Warthog is the simplest aircraft on the field and is therefor cheap to maintain AFAIK. Helicopters other than the HIND are fairly flimsy and fighter jets are actually too fast for CAS. A-10s fill a role that doesn't really need fixing.
Loved the bit about the pilots discovering the A-10! My discovery was when I was 10 or 11 in the late 80s and saw a wing of A-10s in the distance in Myrtle Beach. They peeled off 1 by 1 as I was listening to 'Armageddon It' by Def Leppard on my Sony Mega Bass walkman! Quite a bad ass memory! My hats off to these brave aviators!

Being an Air Force veteran, refuel specialist/. Strategic Air Command. It would be the biggest mistake the Air Force ever made to retire this beast. The guys on the ground the Marines , and the Army infantry would lose the only Air support that is effective. The first one I had ever seen was in a video that the Air Force had made. When I seen the video I couldn't believe the gun on the front of it. The first thing I thought of was the Viet Nam war. The A-10 would of made a big dent in the fight against the north. I had spoken to a couple of Marine Corp vets that had been helped by an A-10 they said the same thing to hear that gun and then see that bird go around again until that Marine unit was safe helped them just a tad bit safer. To know that A-10 pilot was there for them was something they had a hard time putting into words.
@Richard Peck can the cobra get hit by a SAM then still fly and land back at its base?I apologize for my wording in my above comment. Any and all air support is appreciated by ground troops in situations where without air support maybe wouldn't have survived. So again I apologize for the wording in above comment. I am not saying that the Cobra isn't effective. The nickname "Tank Killer" was given to it because of the first role the A-10 played. The A-10 is the first aircraft the Air Force has had in its arsenal for close ground support. During the Viet Nam conflict the air force had no plane for close ground support. And like Will Atkinson said even if we did they would of been kept on a short leash and not allowed to perform the job they were designed for.
Emotional stuff, beautifully produced film. Every US politician on both sides should be required to sit individually in a small dark room and watch this film without distraction.
Replace it? HA, replace it and you'll be regretting it. We can all agree, the A-10 has the be one of the most beautiful planes on this planet. If they were to give it a modern smack to it. Oh boy, that fear would come right back.
They are very modern though, some people still think they are using Gulf war era versions. The ones used today are extremely high tech, just inside the cockpit and it's systems.
"It's that sound of, uhhhh, corny like freedom." You described it perfectly, and there's nothing corny about it. It sounds EXACTLY like freedom, and thank you for defending mine.
I'll never understand why these jerks in congress and those responsible for procurement don't listen most to the guys fighting on the ground and keep weapons systems like the A-10. Oh, yeah I do. It's called $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, payoffs, and those responsible for killing great weapons systems instead of upgrading them should be thrown in prison. If someone's son or daughter is killed because of someone else's decision based on money instead of efficacy of a weapon, that person should no longer be able to draw breath. Listen to the guys on the ground.
I think it was first manufactured beginning in 1952. I just looked it up on Wikipedia, and between 1952 and 1962, 744 were built. As of late 2016 there were 58 with 16 in reserve.
How else can a 30yr old Congressman Lawyer who practiced for 5 years, make 150,000 a year, pay off debts, make the pension, which is huge, move to the senate for 30 years, and retire as a multimillionaire and then lobby for special interests. That my friends is a swamp, and it is very, very deep.
As a "boots on the ground" Marine in the 1966 & 1967 DMZ of Vietnam, I can vouch for the value of air support. I was a squad radio operator, My job was to transmit to pilots for strafing, bombing and med-evac support. Great air support is a godsend!!

I seriously believe that the A10 would be one of the easiest production lines to restart. That platform is irreplaceable and relatively inexpensive to produce in the combat aircraft world. I'm ex USAF from a long ways back.
Not enough money to be made in the margins. War is a business first and foremost, if the airframe doesn't cost at least 200million USD it is not worth the time or attention because there isn't enough on the margins to grease the politicians. There is a reason politicians who never had a real job go from upper-mid class when elected, to millionaires after a term to multimillionaires after 10 years or so of 'public service' at 160k a year claimed income. If a few poor kids gotta die to grease those wheels, they will be sure to thank them at the memorial ceremonies for their sacrifice on the way out of DC for vacation.
Shinobione. I read that it was for A-10. I hope it’s the A-10 that gets it, but your probably right. I doubt they really will restart the A-10 production line again

StabbyJoe135 the f35 and the A10 have different roles. The f35 is supposed to be a fighter that is “good” at everything but the A10 forgoes stuff like air to air and stealth in favor of pure air to ground firepower.
Having been an Infantry Squad Leader in Afghanistan I can say that these pilots saved our tails more than a few times when we were ambushed and outnumbered. I even had a chance to meet a pilot that went by Dude 10 that gave us support during a Recon mission when we were ambushed and outnumbered.
The A-10 should be renamed "Honey Badger" or "Wolverine" it's got the balls to go into a "hot zone" and clear everything without a scratch to the plane, sure it'll take some S.A.F but there's nothing like that sound when your pined down in a fire fight, running out of ammo and hearing that scream come over your head. The A-10 is one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built! I have always loved the classic lines and curves of vintage aircraft... i.e. Sopwith Camel, P-40, F-4u, P-51, C-40, C-130, ... very few JETS make that list! F-4 phantom, F-23, and the A-10! Out of my favorite aircraft of all time, there are only 2 that are still operational ... that C-130 and the A-10. ... Kaboom! .... ... ... buuuuurt! The sound of freedom! Thank you to all who serve!
The A-10 has been my Favorite aircraft since I was little because of the unique look to it. As I got older I loved it more because I understood then what it is capable of and how much of a beating it can take and keep flying. I now fly it in the Flight Sim, DCS, and it's my #1 favorite aircraft to fly in the Sim. There's nothing more satisfying than firing off the 30mm GAU-8. It will be an idiotic move to replace the A-10 as a CAS craft in the Military. It's truly irreplaceable...

Heartwarming to hear Air Force officers so passionate about protecting their brothers on the ground. If I ever meet a hog driver the drinks are on me.

@@harleyk101 I'm confused at what your point is. Everything evolves including war.
Michael Davis Thank you for your service brother

Its a plane attached to a cannon. There is no replacement for the A-10.
@@platiuscyndar9017 indeed
It's not even just the cannon. It's the depleted uranium ammo for the cannon too. Surely they can update and improve the ammo & cannon system. After that, modernize the concept of the plane but all this costs money and leads to dirty contracts for gear that doesn't perform perhaps. The men on the ground are definitely worth the cost so I think updating the aircraft is the best plan till anti grav flight systems come online or something ground breaking.
Fully redundant plane at that, so good luck getting the cannon out of the sky!
A-10 Awesome aircraft.. It should be Upgraded with a refined version, NOT continually threatened with retirement.
I agree! Either upgrade or commission a true replacement or both. You can't just remove something so integral to our boots on the ground without a legitimate replacement. It's common damn sense. The DoD needs to talk to the actual troops and see what they actually want and need.
Gov't is pretty bad at common sense in general lol... even people in government will readily tell you that.
I love the fact that every time an A-10 Brrrts the soldiers/marines who see it geek out

Nothing will ever replace the A-10!!! As a ground pounder there isn’t anything much sweeter to my ears than hearing that gun and knowing he’s on our side.
Regroup, retool and rebuild the A-10 fleet. I owe a pilot my life.

Boeing re winged all of them . Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt!
The avionics were upgraded on all A-10's in the last few years. About a month ago, Boeing receive a contract to install new wings on all of them, so that they could fly til 2040+.
From a guy who was on the ground THANK YOU!!! You guys are by far my favorite CAS. By far.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for there is an A-10 watching over me !

this video is so powerful, i was a usmc grunt. i couldnt help but well up listening to these incredible pilots, and infantrymen/brothers.
Thank you and your father you definitely have one hell of a perspective on the A10
Just had a feeling your father was literally looking out for you and for the other troops and

Fun facts:
-The A10 is due to stay in service up in 2030
-The vast majority of CAS missions are still performed by Vipers.
- F35 is replacing F16 and F/A18, not A10.
Honestly, I think it will stay in service a while longer. It is hard to replace something like that.
Baerzilla viper = F16 / Bug(super bug it rhino) = super hornet.
Sort of official nicknames given to the jets by the pilots.

The A10 is not a replaceable aircraft. Talk of retiring or replacing it should be criminal.
Upgrades, not replacements!
Thing is it’s hard for us to produce more of them since the cockpit is pretty much a bathtub of titanium and Russia stopped selling us titanium after they realized what we were using it for
And yet it's been mostly replaced by the F-16, F-15 strike eagle and B1... It is replaceable.

All I felt was this compression,and a feeling I can't describe,like silence,and something coming at you,so I turned and they were right there,right there.
I’m in AFROTC now hoping to become an A-10 Pilot one day!!

The A 10 has got to be the best ground support aircraft ever built.
It kicks ass still to this day.
Had these been available in the Nam the politicians would have kept a leash on them just like the rest of the aircraft out there.
The A10 was developed from lessons learned in close air support in Vietnam
Emotional stuff,

Every US politician on both sides should be required to sit individually in a small dark room and watch this film without distraction.
Replace it? HA, replace it and you'll be regretting it. We can all agree, the A-10 has the be one of the most beautiful planes on this planet. If they were to give it a modern smack to it. Oh boy, that fear would come right back.
They are very modern though, some people still think they are using Gulf war era versions. The ones used today are extremely high tech, just inside the cockpit and it's systems.
Do they have a virtual cockpit yet? That's all the more modern they could get at this point.

how old is the B52
I think it was first manufactured beginning in 1952. I just looked it up on Wikipedia, and between 1952 and 1962, 744 were built. As of late 2016 there were 58 with 16 in reserve.

Whiplash 1-1 is on station. :D
I haven't touched DCS in a while, but the Hawg is also my favorite.
an a10 saved my brothers life in 2010 so thank you. 🇺🇸🤟🏻
"Grunt in the sky is an A-10 pilot"
4:07 - Q...how do you shoot down a tank?
A...A...the first A10 drops a bomb under it, then the second A10 zaps it mid air with the cannon.
I was going to say that if you can get a tank to fly, you're one very creative individual!! But I like your idea better!!!!!
Remember seeing my first A10 at Myrtle Beach AFB. For the younger people, yes there was an Air Force Base in Myrtle Beach SC. Fantastic aircraft.
Where was the AFB in MB?
@@PepeDeezNutz on hwy17 where the Myrtle Beach airport is.
@@parkercarter3917 ok I’ve flown out of that airport before.
It’s number 1 to every 11b soldier. Thank you for all you did for us
