- In 2012 Buakaw Banchamek, in the prime of his fighting career, fought this "illegal" match against Rustem Zaripov at Thai Fight Extreme, which he did not weigh-in for the fight as a protest against the contract he had with Por Pramuk Gym. All this stress was bad news for Zaripov... Buakaw went all out and brutally destroyed him after a flurry of unanswered strikes, having the referee save Zaripov from his head bouncing off the canvas.

He is a former Muay Thai fighter and boxer. He was a multiple time Lumpinee stadium champion and a WBC world champion in boxing.

I’m guessing it probably had to do with the rules being different. In general Thai organizations will only score powerful strikes that make the opponent react.

As someone who trained mauy thai for many years, who has also stepped inside of the ring but as a boxer. Only time i engaged with anyone inside the ring mauy thai was sparring i can say i would hate to ever have to stand in front of any professional mauy thai fighter let alone buakaw. These mauy thai fighters are straight killers, absolute savages. I loved training and sparring and would advise anyone who would like to toughen up and or improve their fitness to get into mauy thai.
