There is no conceivable way he’s writing to cater to anyone …these are the rawest emotions & this is his catharsis. Evidence of this is the fact that their music is anything but conventional or commercial
One thing I’ve noticed is that Vessel has a crazy high musical IQ and he knows what he wants a song to convey and seems ok taking a back seat and let the groove ride or the rest of the band ride out if the song needs it. Vessels voice is amazing but since he writes pretty much everything except drums he’s intentional with how much he wants to be in the forefront. Also, the drummer II snaps in this song.. lol.
There is no pander in this band. Many in the metal community hate Sleep Token because they dont fit in the Metalcore definition. They are their own genre. This band has redefined music for me. The lore behind the band and in vessels lyrics are god tier. At first it seems he is hung up on a girl. Then after you dig deeper you think maybe this is about a god named Sleep. Then you learn that there is an even deeper layer and all of his music is all Shadow work and based on Jungian teaching.
Are you guys reading the lyrics while you watch? They are powerful. The emotion in his voice in the songs is uncontested. As you go along, just remember you will be acknowledging the growth of Vessel and the band in general. II had 3 awards last year from Drumeo and i believe they got an award for best British band 2023? Something like that. But as you listen to Vessel sing, which i know you love his voice, it would be a damn shame if you only appreciated the screams and not ALLLL of his vocal talent. He has the voice of Angel so along with the lore, it's another reason we say WORSHIP !!!!! ❤
We look at lyrics while we watch. In past reviews, we couldn't say enough about how substantive his lyrics were. Such a breath of fresh air to have someone pour as much into their subject matter as their music. Often I find that I skip some songs of the bands I enjoy simply because although the music itself is mesmerizing, the lyrics feel as though they were an afterthought. That is never the case with Sleep Token.
@@Honestreactions9682 I completely agree. The music is mind blowing but the lyrics are top tier for sure. Some of the songs you may not like necessarily, but you have to appreciate the talent of Vessel.... he's one of the most phenomenal musicians/lyricist/singers imo since Prince. There is not an instrument he cannot play and there is not a song out there that if he didn't write it and only did a cover, well he ends up making the song, any song, his own.
@@Fire_Dawg It's a funny coincidence in that I'm the opposite! My favourite song is 'Fall for Me' from TPWBYT but for albums I'm drawn to the softer tracks like Take Aim on Sundowning. Love them all though, their whole catalogue is a gem.
This is not their debut, Ep one is their breakout There is Ep one,Ep two, jaws and the way that you were before sundowning was released Maybe give falling in reverse, bad omens or bring me the horizon a shot?
Write songs to cater to what other people want to hear??! That's not the way artists work. In the words of David Bowie, "I think it's terribly dangerous for an artist to fulfil other people's expectations. I think they generally produce their worst work when they do that."

I think this album can be a little jarring the first time you listen to it after TMBTE. But it grows. Hard.
