I did that once too....don't lose that locating pin it is tiny.... also good info for XR XL etc 2 valve 200's if the advance springs are rusty and shot ...I made 2 out of ball point pen springs,,,yes pen springs
This might be why I get fuel spitting back when I try to start it. Bent valves.. I took the cdi cover off and found the timing advance had some broken parts on it. And when trying to start it it would kick back at me. I’ve had it running a good couple times after fighting it but it’s hard to get it started if it even starts
@@TristanSogge definitely a valve timing issue … don’t trust the timing marks you have to go old school make sure the piston is a top dead center, and that the valves are both closed on the camshaft.. a degree often either direction will create all kinds of problems… unfortunately unless you know the maintenance history of the engine, someone may have swapped parts, and those mating marks may not be accurate
@@localenterprisebroadcastin5971 supposedly the engine was rebuild like 20 years ago and shortly parked after and sat, I got it running and drove it around a fair bit. It’s always been a hard one to start when cold
I’m just about to strip one of these engines glad I saw this I’m curious if the cam timed with the crank how did it bend a valve ? Is it due to it firing at the wrong time ? I just assumed as long as the timing was mechanically right the pulse wouldn’t make a difference it just wouldn’t fire up
What's funny is I put my flywheel at the f mark perfectly, I pull off my pickup coil cover to find that it was almost exactly 180⁰ out... yet starts right up... is there something I'm missing?
If the springs behind the pulse generator and that part your working on is broken will they caused it to struggle getting up to speed and struggle to start going
@@localenterprisebroadcastin5971 there is two wires coming out of the timing blue and yellow when you crank the motor is there fire coming from the blue wire going to the dci

That’s why dirt bike and quad techs charge extra to fix your mistakes

That will cause an engine to not start or back fire when trying to start?

Great video! Hows the ATC coming along? get the lighting all squared away?
Yep just needed a ballast resistor to run the LEDs
How do you take the screw off the ignition rotor
Mine just unscrewed like any normal fastener 👍
Is there fire coming out of the blue wire when you crank it

I just rebuilt my Honda XR 200 and I was wondering why it wasn’t starting and this is why it wasn’t starting because I wasn’t lined🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just about to start it right now I’ll see if that was the problem Because I just did a top and rebuild on it
@@Nhssteppa good luck 👍
@@localenterprisebroadcastin5971 fired right up after that 😁
Just got back from a four hour ride on it
It has a line on the side that goes up.
Can this cause a no spark
Possibly…it will definitely throw off timing
