The beauty of archery is everyone gets to pick what they want to and shoot what feels good! Some people can slay shooting with a Mathews and I’m just not one of those people!

    My son Chris Hammond and Levi Morgan made the open pro shootdown this weekend In Illinois. They do usually remove the grip tho and run the Mathews side plate with either grip tape or a strip of the non slip tape. Also they run their own stabilizers. Chris tells me it’s an absolute amazing bow tho.
    Haxen talks very positive about the bow itself. He’s just negatively talking about the cost of the stabilizer system and other accessories. Which I tend to agree with. I enjoy all his videos tho.

    Fair review, thanks for the video. I don't agree with the Mathews branded accessories being a down-side, since they are optional, though. Considering them a down-side means the bow would be better without them, which doesn't make any sense. You can still mount the regular stabilizers, rests and sights (which are as expensive on a Mathews as they are on any other bow, btw).
    Thanks again for the video, though. If you're not living in the US, chances are that you are not able to shoot these bows before you buy them. This means we rely on reviews like these to make the most informed purchase decision we possible can. I got the new Phase 4 very recently, and I'm not 100% sure I made the right call, which sucks. But I will never know, since I can't compare it to the other bows on the market.

    Great review! (Except for missing those loose limb bolts 😂) I'm strongly considering buying a phase 4 in the next month. I actually still shoot a switchback xt. I've been shooting and loving the xt for over 15 years. Every time Mathews releases a new flagship bow, i go try it out. The phase 4 is the first one that felt like a significant improvement over my switchback! Lol. It feels absolutely amazing to shoot! It is extremely expensive to set up, but i feel like it will be another timeless bow that ill enjoy shooting for many years just like the xt. 😁

    1. Everyone replaces strings. 2. A good archery shop will not charge you to swap mods. Mine doesn't. 3. The riser works with all aftermarket add ons. I have a basic quiver, CBE stabilizers, Fuse sight, and a whisker bisquit. Top options aren't a negative dude.

    • @HaxenHunt
      @HaxenHunt  ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Not everyone replaced strings… some people don’t expect an additional $150 charge for new strings. I get it works for every other company’s accessories. Top options are a positive that they are an option… but let’s be realistic… charging $750 for 2 stabilizers and a V bracket is a little absurd

    • @PapaMcEuin
      @PapaMcEuin ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@HaxenHunt how many people use only BowTech accessories or whatever brand their bow is? The point is Mathews came up with a specific design integrated into the bridge and they also provide the ability to use the industry standard accessories as well. The half glass full mindset is a major bias. Not like you are stuck with only Mathews accessories. A friend just bought a Hoyt Venom Pro, $1200 retail, on sale last year's model $799. He slapped similar components to mine on his bow. He blew up the cables and strings learning to use it and gets new ones in a week. Many folks stretch out their strings and get retuned in 3 weeks. Not a biggie. Many folks replace strings every year. But most of your negatives are hardly negative given the bow is designed with compatibility and flexibility. There is just absolutely nothing you said that says why the Phase4 sucks. Perfectly crafted, lots of options, dead quiet. Oh, and no bow marketing actually meets IBO rating without using the exact setup they used for the IBO rating. It would be great to have an honest industry rating based on the average hunter not the bow's maximum potential with the lightest arrow.

These new ones are basically the same. I do not get the hate for the grips and strings. Mine are a year and a half old now and they are fantastic. I do however; NEVER intend to put Mathews accessories on it. They are just insane with cost. I have a great stab., system with front and rear stabs fantastic sight and other accessories. Total cost was only a bit under 400 and they are fantastic. I do not miss having Mathews names on them, they work very well so you do not have to end up at over 3k to outfit. Mathews should use some om the money from their accessories and put it into better strings. And why on earth does mathews insist on still using mod's for everything? I get that its ekstra money for them every time you want to change the slightest thing but they are going to be taken over by virtually all other brands within a couple of years especially since they now have the crappiest way of tuning too.

      Elite carbon era is quieter 🤷‍♂️ but with that aside... quiet is a marketing gimmick. People have been killing deer (more successfully than us) for thousands of years with louder and slower bows. Heck, they were probably at their loudest I'm the early compound bow days with steel cables and four pulleys and people still managed to kill deer. Quiet isn't the be all end all. Success is determined by the archer, the bow is just a tool.

    If you are in the market for a new bow. Do not let this guys opinion affect your purchase. He is not very knowledgeable on the equipment he is discussing. Mathews gives you the ability to take your draw weight from 60 pounds to 75 pounds. Just by a mod swap same set of limbs. Also allowing you to keep your limbs bottomed out so you get the maximum performance from your bow at any weight. Any other manufacturers bow will cost you at least 200 dollars for a set of limbs to change your draw weight. Then you have to swap the limbs. The Mathews mod system is bullet proof and preforms better than any of the competitors rotating mods that rattles loose while shooting. The speeds he has posted in this video are wrong he has the limbs backed out on a bow that makes sure you don’t have to touch your limb bolts. A bows grip is going to vary by each individual shooter. I shoot very well off the engage grip. As do countless others across this country. The zebra strings are better than the factory strings on most if not all other manufacturers bows. I hear these guys complain about them but I can’t tell you how many bows I have owned/ worked on for others. With zebra strings and never encountered an issue that was not user error. Any one can make a video and post it on TH-cam. About 80% or more of them are just repeating what they have heard from someone else and none of them have first hand experience. Find a really good archery shop learn to tune and work on your own equipment. Buy the bow you like the best and shoot it until you have reason to buy a new bow or just want one. If maintained correctly any bow out there should last a lifetime. To my knowledge Mathews is the only company that you can still get replacement parts for the first bow they ever made. All the other manufacturers have changed hands so many times over the years they can’t even tell you what there first model was. They sell you a lifetime warranty then stop making parts 5 or 6 years after they make your bow. When your bow breaks. The offer you a new bow at a slightly discounted price. Mathews will fix your bow. Which is what you are paying for when you buy a flag ship bow.

      I see your perspective and you’re not wrong by sharing your perspective and opinion. Stating “he’s not knowledgeable” about Mathews or the bow itself isn’t a true statement. I love the rest of your comment and your feedback as far as what you see in the pros and cons of this bow. I appreciate the comment no doubt! But before we make any assumptions about someone else’s experiences without asking beforehand let’s just remember opinions and perspective are each their own. Again thank you for your comment and your feedback on your own perspective! That’s the great thing about the archery community is that there’s so much variety in gear that fit the variety in hunters! Thanks again man👊🏽

      @@HaxenHunt should’ve chose some of my words better. But the real attributes of Mathews switch weight system were over looked in this video. As well as the issues with the way other manufacturers handle their warranty. About every other compound bow manufacturer has changed hands once or more since it’s existence. Mathews and pse were the last hold outs and pse just sold. You can’t even keep up with who you’re buying from anymore. Bowtech has sold so many times it’s a joke. When you buy something with a lifetime warranty at a premium price you should get what you pay for. With most bow companies that is not the case.

    Watching your reviews of the Phase 4 made me more confident in my decision to purchase it. My dilemma was wondering if i would have gotten more for my money going RX7, carbon fiber. Excellent mathew's review. I argue these exact points with mathew's fanboys. I don't have a money tree out back and mathew's doesn't sponsor me. I also have shot a lot of bows with a better draw cycle without the dump into the valley, other bows have a better valley, and other manufacturers are offering rotating mods and easy tuning methods. Don't forget you have to buy 60$ top hat kit to tune a mathew's which Ive had to do. I played the mathew's game, I bought 2 different mods for 60$each, 1/2" draw length doesn't hit my sweet spot so I had to tie on a dozen d loops along with twisting cables, I had to buy a tophat kit after shooting for a couple months to get bullet holes, and it took a couple hundred shots before the zebra strings were totally trashed. Steered me right away from mathew's as I want a good bow I can get use from before a restring, easy tuning, rotating draw length, and an affordable price. If I bought a phase 4 I'd have 150$ in strings, at least 60$ in modules, and 60$ in top hats within the first 6 months which elevates 1300$ to roughly 1600$ for just the bow and this doesn't include potential press time to have this listed work done and mathew's aren't that much better for me to logically justify the cost. If you buy a bow, sight it in(30-50 shots), shoot mechanical broadheads, hunt and then hang it up for the year then yeah mathew's will work for you without issue. I've also found hoyts customer service and warranty to suck after owning two hoyts.... its been 8 weeks and I still haven't got the parts for my rx4 and the closest hoyt dealers are both an hr away from me and I have 3 other bow shops inside of 30 mins away. Right now I'm favoring elite, athen's, bowtech, and pse. I will be staying away from mathew's and hoyt until they make changes and this comes from someone who shoots almost daily averaging 200+ arrows per week.

    Not sure about this video man just saying. I’m not a Mathews guy but I think there’s a lot you don’t understand about their bows and the company as a whole.
    1.) Mathews is on of a very few that are truly and genuinely innovative. 90% of companies are paying someone else for their design, putting it on their bows and ignorant people give the credit to them. Hoyt is a good example of that. In recent years they are more bowtech and Darton than hoyt.
    2. The strings are not as bad as you’re making them out to be. Every single one of Mathews pros are using zebra strings and winning. It’s part of their contract. User error has alot more to do with string problems than anything.
    3.) The grip is designed the way it is for a reason, it reduces hand shock, hand shock is a selling point. I had a Mathews x comp with the factory grip on it and I shot it amazing. I don’t think many people can shoot the difference between factory and aftermarket grips, including you. This video is biased. What I have said here is not it’s facts. Give people facts bro. I enjoy your channel and honestly this is the first video I have not. 🙂

    • @HaxenHunt
      @HaxenHunt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate the criticism man! Mathews as a company is incredible. The people behind it are some of the best. That being said, when i walk into a bow shop and shoot a bow, I don’t really care who invented what. Who’s being personally innovative. As that stuff is all good positive things but I’m personally looking for a bow that shoots best in MY hand. That being said, I think the phase 4 has its quirks… but it’s an amazing platform to shoot from. I never once have said I Hate the phase 4 or mathews. I have stated I don’t like the grip and strings, and that’s going off of personal experiences.
      I’m gunna buy a phase 4 and go deep into it using it and killing something with it😂

    And i like your videos, but none of these are really a negative, most ppl spending that much on a bow plan for new strings anyway if they are smart, and if u dont wanna spend that much on accessories just run whatever you had on your previous bow,and i never had my shop charge for swapping out mods unless its older model and they need to order in special order ,i think alot of bow choice comes to the person shooting cuz theres a ton of different opinions nd videos out there and after shooting all the flag ships i definitely find some dont line up with my personal feeling on some of the brands out there,some ppl swear by certain bows that to me feel like trash lol

    Hey man great video! I have been shooting archery since 16 years of age and mostly compound bows. I’m now 48 and it blows my mind how everyone runs after the big “name brands” like sheep. Mathews, Hoyt, PSE, Bowtech and Bear. Bear for me has always been a competitor but that’s just my opinion. I guess all the mounts and racks that I have speak for themselves. Every bow shoots and every bow kills, always remember that. The big names like Mathews are all hype, advertising and marketing, nothing more nothing less. One brand of bow that I have shot faithfully over the years that everyone seems to overlook is a small company named “High Country Archery”. I have an “All-Carbon” bow from High Country Archery hanging in my basement that I purchased and started shooting in 2003, looooooong before any of these other BIG name companies even thought about an all carbon riser. Most people don’t even know that. It was a great shooting bow, it was feather light and you could spin it like a basket ball on one finger. I smoked a lot of animals with that bow. It’s now a retired relic in my personal bow museum but still shoots just as good as it did 20 years ago. I also have the a number of other High Country bows like the “Katana” which was a mini bow that could be shot sitting down in the tightest tree stand conditions imaginable. I also took a lot of deer and bear with the High Country Katana. I stayed away from all of the big brand names on purpose because they were mostly selling expensive dreams and nothing more. The only big name brand bow that I ever purchased was the Mathews Switchback XT because I wanted to try it. I can honestly say that to date Mathews has never duplicated or surpassed the Switchback XT. The Switchback XT was a very fast hard-hitting deadly accurate bow that was a pleasure to shoot but I went right back to High Country. I still shoot High Country and I also shoot Bowtech. Bowtech has never been given the full recognition that other big name brands have been given and they are also excellent bows. I also have the Diamond “Black Ice” by Bowtech which is another much older bow and it still draws and shoots smooth like butter. All I can say is don’t get sucked into the hype, the marketing and the advertising. Shoot whatever bow works for you. The younger guys always want the newest bow that’s out or the one that their buddy has and that’s great news for the manufacturers but not always the smartest or most cost-effective approach. The new Phase 4 by Mathews has options for all Mathews products like the Mathews stabilizer, Mathews V-bar and Mathews everything else. By the time you are done your at $3500.00 fully loaded. I’m sorry but that’s just utterly ridiculous in my opinion, archery should not necessarily break the bank.

      You are exaggerating slightly, I just got a Mathews Atlas and I'm 1600 all in, fully outfitted. Shoot what you want, no need to be sour about Mathews. What I don't understand is people badmouthing one bow company over another ect.... nobody needs somebody bashing there choice in archery equipment. Enjoy the sport of Archery and if you can't play well with others, keep your thoughts to yourself.

    I have always been a BowTech guy. I've had all the flagship bows for the past 15 years never really had much problems with them. Just purchased my first v3x and like you said Mathews is overrated as far as the price for their accessories this will probably be the last one I will ever buy. For the money that we pay for the bows technology is a huge Factor and Matthews is lagging way behind had to go back to my pro shop to have the top hats switch. But again my opinion any bow that is made nowadays is going to be a good bow.
