  • We are inviting you to support Locations of Freedom, the Philippine Pavilion, an exhibit curated by Avie Felix at the 15th Gwangju Biennale, which is set to open this coming September 2024.
This year marks the largest edition of the Gwangju Biennale to date as it
celebrates the 30th anniversary of its inception. For the first time, the Biennale will feature a dedicated Philippine Pavilion, where a diverse group of Filipino artists is set to represent the Philippines. The Philippine Pavilion is co-funded by the Gwangju Biennale Foundation, with support from vMeme Contemporary Art Gallery, Fundacion Sanso, Imao Studios, the University of the Philippines Film Institute, and the Philippine Embassy in South Korea.
The exhibition will feature artists who work across various media and disciplines: Toym Leon Imao, Sari Dalena, Adjani Arumpac, Paul Eric Roca, Veejay Villafranca and Dennis Montera, artist-curator Avie Felix and designer Karl Castro. The Philippine Pavilion, to be housed at the Gallery 5 of the Asia Culture Centre (ACC), will present a mix of sculptural installations, paintings, moving image/video art, and photographs. Entitled Locations of Freedom, the exhibition is an important opportunity to promote Philippine contemporary art in the global space, celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Republic of Korea and the Philippines, and stand in solidarity with our neighboring ASEAN countries also exhibiting at the ACC.
The Philippine Pavilion exhibition runs from September 5 to December 1, 2024. Updates will be posted on the Locations of Freedom official social media accounts:
