Wish one of the local transmission rebuilders in your area would have offered to assist or loan you the tool to set up the spacers/shims required to finish the job. If course later on if they needed some assistance repairing some heavy equipment you would have returned the favor/assistance.. I miss the days when people helped each other. Really hope this rebuild works well for you folks.😊

I’ve had the same problems before but not because of rodent damage but had the same problem with not being able to shift into second. It could be just a problem with a lot of this model transmission. I did have mine rebuilt and never had any issues afterwards but while towing heavy loads especially through the lower gears I started double clutching as a precaution only with heavy loads. It was a inconvenience when traveling backroads and places where shifting alot through lower gears was nessasary but I could feel a major difference in how smooth it would shift. Can’t say that it truly made a difference but probably have around five hundred thousand miles on the rebuild and it’s as smooth as any manual transmission I’ve ever driven.

To reduce the size of a ring - chill it - blast of CO2 gas (fire extinguisher) will shrink it nicely. Heat a rod (longer and skinny) Chill rings to compress the ring. And heat to expand. tricks on rings and volumes, linear and volumetric expansions.

The rebuild process proved to be _tedious, rather complex_ and difficult to keep up w/, to say the very least! An effort expertly handled by the people of the business, to include Clint, Kevin, Her Majesty, the true _Boss_ of the operation, 'Uncle' Scott and son, Hunter (hope _none_ have been overlooked/left out? 😳; if so, sincere apologies are offered to one and all).

  • @gwbuilder5779

The modern technology of video is such a huge benefit on the newer multi gear transmissions. Back in the 80s I ended up doing a lot of transmissions because other guys in the shop would take them apart and not be able to put them back together. Fortunately I got ahold of an older gentleman's set of service manuals for Eaton/Fuller New Process, Allison and several medium duty and standard heavy duty packets.
The Allison 13 speed automatic was a fun one.
The zip tie trick was a very smart move. I used tie wire, but same idea. It keeps all the main components together. The only ones that can be a real pain are those inner rings, I saw you flip them around a few times to sort it out. I got a whole center shaft back together in an 18 speed once only to realize the shift rings were flipped the wrong way. 🤦‍♂️
Everything worked fine until I put the idler shaft back in and nothing turned. I sure could've used a camera back then.
Great job. Those 6 speeds can be intimidating for sure.🤙
