The weirdest thing about this game is the conductor. Anytime pepper approaches the tracks at somewhere other than a crossing, he swoops in and picks pepper up. His power is immense. Yet he sits idly by during the chaos.

But in simplicity: Johnny, Pippin and Dr Kilroy all take the Bi-Plane back to the Desert; Dr Kilroy leaves his car behind, so Pepper can use it to race across the Desert to the Oasis, allowing him to re-join the Adventurers near the Airport, once he's got the Constructopedia Page from the Matching Mummies Tomb
Just like on some games like the classic Harry Potter series; some areas can only be accessed once, so make sure you find and do *EVERYTHING* for 100% completion, as there is no way to return to it again later on without starting a new game, specifically Adventurers Island and Planet Ogel specifically. Adventurers Island via Desert Area, also has a Soft Lock feature in which ruins your save file permanently; landing on the H pad whilst riding a Pterodactyl because it disappears and there is no way off!
For the pony you need to keep the cursor as centered as possible. For the canon, it has to do with firing before the enemy fires and probably not getting hit. As far as I know that is a glitch. It happened intermittently on or off during my practice runs the day before as well, sometimes showing up sometimes not. The run was verified by the moderators, and so was the previous WR by Wagintrowl, which also had the same glitch. Unless something changes that is good enough for me. (You can verify the gold rating on biplane at 52:57) Hope that clears everything up.

Let's just say. There were a few attempts where I forgot one gem, or one minigame gold medal, so I know this very well.
