He's one of the many potential candidates that never got the chance to be in Smash as a Playable Character. He has one of the best looking Assist Trophies and a Remix Theme. That's more than most.
They should reboot Murasame Castle with hack n slash gameplay, also i don't get why they didn't made him playable in Smash, almost nobody knew Fire Emblem before Melee but now we all love it, Smash could do something similar for him.
The difference is that at the time of Melee Fire Emblem was extremely popular in Japan and was a thriving series, even if it was Japan exclusive. Murasame Castle was already a twenty year old game without a single sequel and Melee was before the Pikmin 2 which started the Takamaru cameos.
Still They did the same with Pit in brawl, an they put random characters like snake/ryu for whatever reasons.... I mean if even Cloud can make it in, why not Takamaru (wich already shows in as a support/mii costume and as a cameo in NintendoLand)

Takamaru's essentially Link's long lost brother. Hope he gets the Kid Icarus Uprising treatment; also let him express himself a lot more like with Pit.
There's definitely something appealing about Takamaru. Watching him square off against Marth makes me think he would have been so cool in Smash 4 as a playable character
I can imagine the gameplay being a cross between Zelda and Bayonetta set in Edo Japan. Basically a Nintendo version of Ninja Gaiden Black without the insanely hard difficulty.

I would LOVE an open world Mysterious Murasame Castle game, where there's a town in the middle of the map where you trade in resources that you find on your way and in the four main towers around the game world.
I don't normally comment on anything anymore, but when it's about Takamaru, I can't help myself. I'm not sure why, but I find Takamaru and his original game to be extremely charming and would LOVE to see it receive a sequel, remake, or anything at this point. Takamaru (for as little as we actually know about him) is one of my favorite Nintendo characters and I was a hardcore supporter for him to appear in Smash 4. Hopefully he gets his chance in Smash 5 (if it ever happens). Thank you for this wonderful video, GameXplain, it really made my day.
I remember playing through the original game on an emulator after I saw him appear back as a sticker. The game itself is still my favorite from the 8 bit era, and seeing him return back in Samurai Warriors 3, still one of my favorite Wii games, fueled me with newfound love for his character. Takamuaru is an underappreciated character by most, but it is good to see him finally start to return to the light. Here's to hoping we get a continuation to his story.
Look up a tutorial on it. You have to install a Famicom Disk System BIOS to your emulator. Once you've done that, when you start the game it's telling you to "switch to side B" which on the actual Famicom means flipping over the disk and reinserting it. There should be a menu option on the emu to switch sides.
Yep. When Earthbound Beginnings came out, I of course bought the game because I really enjoyed playing it and wanted to show my support for the series. Same with this game.
Mysterious Murasame Castle, as well as Mach Rider, is a franchise a wish Nintendo would bring back. Both have interesting characters and plot. Takamaru is Nintendo's Samurai Jack xD I imagine a new Murasame Castle's game for the NX, using infiltration mechanics (something like Metal Gear + Zelda)
I would love this series to be revived, after all, I think it is time for Link's brother to take center stage and maybe even a crossover with the legend of Zelda series. Todekamaru is the east and Link is the west.
Man, Takamaru was one of my most requested characters to be in the latest version of Smash; he would've been a perfect NES rep, until he got replace by Duck Hunt. In fact, him being playable in Smash would've solved the problem about him being so obscure. That way, folks in the east and west would know who he is and his origins. You'd think after just one game and all those cameos, Takamaru would've had a sliver of a chance fighting with Mario and the others. Yeah, he's an assist and a costume, but it's just not the same. As a suggestion for a new MIA, Vaati from Zelda. He had three appearances as a main villain and then poof! Gone. The only game he's been in since he's disappeared is the 25th anniversary FS, which doesn't really count.

By the way, if you don’t mind here are a few suggestions for future episodes: Orcos - The completely ignored antagonist of “Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters” for the Game Boy. Could be a great opportunity to talk about this game itself, its weird enemies and how it never got released in Japan until recently! Captain Commando - a hidden CAPCOM arcade gem that only gets a few references in some crossover games. This guy used to be the company’s mascot, appearing and thanking you for purchasing the games in manuals! Where is he? Ribbon and the Ripple Star Fairies - Perhaps Kirby’s single resemblance to a love interest in the entire series. Just like many NPCs they just vanished, with little to no cameos whatsoever however, they had a huge impact in the series. After all, the former recurring antagonist Dark Matter met its untimely demise by the hands of these fairies Crystal! Shin Onigashima - A Famicom exclusive produced by Miyamoto with music by Koji Kondo(!) which seems to be on the EXACT same situation as Nazo no Murasamejo (Takamaru’s Ninja Castle). Nintendo’s first text-based adventure game whose main characters, a girl named Hikari and a little blue haired boy named Donbe appear sporadically in cameos (like being costumes in Super Mario Maker, trophies in Melee, stickers in Brawl and some music remixes throughout). It even had a sequel called Yuyuki, whose characters appear in cameos in Kirby Dream Land 2 & 3 of all things. Super Adventure Rockman - A (get this) interactive movie/rail shooter released for the SEGA Saturn and the Playstation. It involves Mega Man trying to stop Dr. Wily from using an evil super-computer he uncovered in the Amazon rainforest to conquer the world, all while fighting against Robot Masters from Mega Man 2 & 3. It is notable for its villain, the said super-computer known as Ra-Moon, and its darker tone. Roll pretty much dies in it, Ra Moon influences primitive people to kill each other, military helicopters blow up midair and a huge worldwide blackout affects hospital equipment… The Pudding Continent - The region in which Luigi has an ENTIRE EPIC ADVENTURE during the events of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who not only was amused by Luigi’s antics and tales, but actually wanted to know more about that place, its relics, and populace as in, see it with my own eyes. Places with such interesting names like “Circuit Break Island”, “Jazzafrazz Town”, “Rumplebump Volcano”… If Paper Mario is an action-adventure series now, why not let a “Paper Luigi” follow the RPG format. Takamaru's destiny is to upgrade from being an assist trophy to a playable character in Smash. Papa Sakurai please we have included every character who is important Takamaru deserve's his time in the sun.
As someone who adores Mysterious Murasame Castle (the fact that I cosplay Takamaru should tell you how much I like it), I really appreciate you guys giving this Famicom classic the attention is so desperately deserves. Now I can only hope that Kamiya is still interested in making a reboot or Sakurai reconsiders Takamaru for the roster of the next Super Smash Bros...
I've loved Murasame Castle since it was released on 3DS. Even today is still damn fun, i can see why is still highly regarded in Japan. If they announce a Takamaru game for NX i would be so happy.
I got the game on virtual console after watching your Game & Watch video for it! I love the game, even if it took a little while to get used to the setup (as it was a direct port without translations haha) I can't wait to see how far the MIA series goes, sounds like a really cool concept

This series have potential to be the best here on this channel. To me at least it is. Love to see curiosities like these. I had played this game on emulator some years ago. It is kinda fun and reminds me of The Legend of Zelda mixed with Ikki (another Famicom game).
Well seeing it through the lense of hindsight, he might see a return in ultimate. If not then already there as either a playable character or an assist trophy.
At least I know what takamaru's ninja catsle from Nintendo land is based on. Since in that game almost every minigame is based on some already existing Nintendo games.

I actually like Murasame Castle more than the NES Zelda. What it lacks in cryptic, hidden secrets it makes up for in just pure, bad-guys-wanna-kill-ya difficulty. It's pretty damn hard. I would have LOVED it if it ever got a sequel using the Link to the Past engine on SNES. Diagonal movements would be an enormous improvement.
Platinum games' Kamiya makiing a skill-based hack-N-Slash murasme castle reboot would be fucking amazing. His amazing talent and experience in making fast-paced action games would really fit with the old game's hectic and challenging gameplay. And since Kamiya has no "access" to Okami anymore, it would give him a new series to work with based on japanese mythology.
A message from 2024: Mysterious Murasame Castle is now available on Switch thanks to NSO! Also, lost media of a live action adaptation of the game was recently found and posted to TH-cam (currently has no English subtitles) and is HISTORIC as I think it was the very first adaptation of a video game to the screen! I hope he makes it into Smash one day and breaks through in popularity
Goemon was like Konami's big first Pachinko in 2007. It was released just after Ebisu and the rest of the team (Goemon, Gradius, Contra, Dracula X) completed Goemon DS and funded their own company called Good Feel (Yoshi Wooly World, Wario Land Shake it). There's a popular rumor that says they did a few CGI and a plot for a potential Goemon PS3 before they left Konami but since no single one guy behind Goemon continued on the company (unlike Kojima Productions which most developers are still there), Konami took the project and made the first Pachinko ....and to be fair, Goemon Pachinko is really fun

You know whats funny? In Smash 4, he's voiced by Tomokazu Sugita. The same guy who voices Chrom.. who isn't playable in said game either (aside from cameos)....:P
Prince Sable's A Frog for Whom the Bells Toll would make a great return. That game was the building blocks for the humor that we get in Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi, not to mention it also was an "Easy to Play, but Hard to Master" game (for the time). If Paper Mario isn't going back to its RPG-roots and is turning into a Quirky-dungeon Crawler, than "Paper Prince Sable" makes more sense since his game is pretty much a Quirky-dungeon Crawler with loads of sarcasm and irony.

You could do an episode on the Baten Kaitos Series. I know its not THAT retro but its still an amazing series that a lot of people never got to appreciate. Not only was the first game widely overlooked but the second one is basicly a hidden gem on the Cube with amazing Storytelling, complex characters, new gameplay and some of the best voice acting at the time. Just a little tip from an (obvious) fan! ;D

Vaati is also in four swords adventure for the gamecube and the four sword anniversary for the 3ds. Both of those game was not developed by Capcom.

This series have potential to be the best here on this channel. To me at least it is. Love to see curiosities like these. I had played this game on emulator some years ago. It is kinda fun and reminds me of The Legend of Zelda mixed with Ikki (another Famicom game).
Well seeing it through the lense of hindsight, he might see a return in ultimate. If not then already there as either a playable character or an assist trophy.

I actually like Murasame Castle more than the NES Zelda. What it lacks in cryptic, hidden secrets it makes up for in just pure, bad-guys-wanna-kill-ya difficulty. It's pretty damn hard.
I would have LOVED it if it ever got a sequel using the Link to the Past engine on SNES. Diagonal movements would be an enormous improvement.
The original game actually looks really fun. I hope they revive the franchise.
Platinum games' Kamiya makiing a skill-based hack-N-Slash murasme castle reboot would be fucking amazing.
His amazing talent and experience in making fast-paced action games would really fit with the old game's hectic and challenging gameplay.
And since Kamiya has no "access" to Okami anymore, it would give him a new series to work with based on japanese mythology.
A message from 2024: Mysterious Murasame Castle is now available on Switch thanks to NSO! Also, lost media of a live action adaptation of the game was recently found and posted to TH-cam (currently has no English subtitles) and is HISTORIC as I think it was the very first adaptation of a video game to the screen! I hope he makes it into Smash one day and breaks through in popularity

Goemon was like Konami's big first Pachinko in 2007. It was released just after Ebisu and the rest of the team (Goemon, Gradius, Contra, Dracula X) completed Goemon DS and funded their own company called Good Feel (Yoshi Wooly World, Wario Land Shake it).
There's a popular rumor that says they did a few CGI and a plot for a potential Goemon PS3 before they left Konami but since no single one guy behind Goemon continued on the company (unlike Kojima Productions which most developers are still there), Konami took the project and made the first Pachinko

Takamaru would be fun in 5mash, but I'd like to see him in his own game first. Maybe he can have something similar to Mystical Ninja with a 3D platforming/fighting game.

You know whats funny? In Smash 4, he's voiced by Tomokazu Sugita. The same guy who voices Chrom.. who isn't playable in said game either (aside from cameos)....:P

Prince Sable's A Frog for Whom the Bells Toll would make a great return. That game was the building blocks for the humor that we get in Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi, not to mention it also was an "Easy to Play, but Hard to Master" game (for the time).
If Paper Mario isn't going back to its RPG-roots and is turning into a Quirky-dungeon Crawler, than "Paper Prince Sable" makes more sense since his game is pretty much a Quirky-dungeon Crawler with loads of sarcasm and irony.
I hope Nintendo makes a reboot to Takamaru as it looks awesome :)

Actually, murasame would make a lot of sense as a platinum game. A barrage of enemies, multiple types of attacks. Its right up their alley
Like any obscure character in nintendo they can easily gain recognition by getting a spot, just like Ice Climbers and the Fire Emblem characters.

You could do an episode on the Baten Kaitos Series. I know its not THAT retro but its still an amazing series that a lot of people never got to appreciate. Not only was the first game widely overlooked but the second one is basicly a hidden gem on the Cube with amazing Storytelling, complex characters, new gameplay and some of the best voice acting at the time.
