FET=Field Effect Transistor it's mostly the traditional tube driver circuit built with the mosfets in place of the triodes and a little high frequency switcher generating the positive and negative rails with some tiny inductors.
FET (Field effect transistors) are a type of transistor arquitecture. The other most common type is BJT (Bipolar junction transistor). FETs are mostly used is Overdrives, BJT are mostly used in Fuzz. Inside BJT category there are Silicon, Germanium...
The field-effect transistor (FET) is a transistor that uses an electric field to control the shape and hence the conductivity of a channel of one type of charge carrier in a semiconductor material. FETs are unipolar transistors as they involve single-carrier-type operation. Hope that helps. I don't have a clue.
I actually just picked up the 7-string Jackson a couple days ago and it shreds!! And it was like the most inexpensive guitar I've ever played that sound PHENOMINALLY OUTSTANDING!
They're like most squire pickups, I actually replaced them with some Duncan's and the tuners I never had an issue with but I did replace them with some schaller locking ones. Now this thing is a beast and hoping to add a Chapman ML-7 T type soon yo my line up! But its definitely the best 7 once you do the pickup swap it'll still come out way cheaper for the quality!
Yeah I've never used any Bare Knuckles, not very common around my area, most everyone uses EMGs which I can't stand, I've always loved Duncan's but am checking out others when I can.
Yeah I'm not a fan of EMG's but dude bare knuckles are really great. Seymours are probably my 2nd favourite but it depends what I want to play really. Bare Knuckles have pretty much any type of tone you like, with amazingly high quality materials handmade in England.
I have the MXR Super Badass and I love it! Now what I want with it is an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer to give it a boost with the Super Badass, I also have the MXR 10 band EQ to adjust the tone.
compared to the EVH, the superbadass has much less prescence (mids), and a flubby bottom but it might be the way they set it up, cus in all other vids, it sounds much better than in this vid
i think you just saved me a few quid! ... i was thinking about getting a fet driver ... but it sounds nothing like what i was looking for... thanks guys
Sounds like Amin7 to D7 with walking bass single notes (E, G, G#). So basically a ii-V vamp in GMaj with some chromatic bass note leading back to A min.
Good review as always guys, love your work. I have the MXR Super Badass and agree is a excellent pedal. I'd say in top 5 of distortions pedal that are out at the moment, has a mid range tone from it. Though my Favorite pedal is still the Blackstar HT-Dual, that is amazing!! I have the Badass as a secondary sound with more mid, I would be keen to try the Fet driver as blues sound, which I would think sound amazing after the HT-Dual on the cleanest dirty sound (CH1).
They should have put the FET Driver through a slightly broken up Marshall-style amp like maybe even that little Marshall Offset they have. It's supposed to be a little like the BK Butler Tube Driver(the early prototypes had knobs and color schemes that looked like it). I think had they done that with it, they would have been able to nail all 3 tones better. I still want the FET driver in the worst way, and in a couple of moments there I did get the "dang listen to that!" chills. Well done!
Hey fellow SPUD. Sorry I've been Spud since 1972 when I attacked a tray of roast potatoes and finished the lot. I was in a band called Phlite started in Sydney then back in Liverpool UK '72, unfortunately no reference to SPuds there. Nice to hear from fellow Spuds though. Hey maybe musical Spuds unite and take over the world. Cheers mate
I'm really hoping to see Cap'n 'n' Chappers get ahold of some new Kramers. Very under-stated guitars without enough PR. (Especially in the UK) Beside that, the necks are shreddey, super-comfortable and you can get them in all price ranges and they all kick entire ass!
Just bought 3 MXR Fet Drivers in 1 week! the 3rd one black Joe Bonamassa box...: WORLDS BEST JAZZ PEDAL with a strat: every note PURE VELVET!!! I kid you soo not!
does anyone know how loud you have to make it before you get some decent distortion because I have tried a few pedals and none seem to work for a bedroom environment.
MXR does stand for "Mixer". Keith Barr, the co-founder of MXR, stated in the book "Stompbox" by Art Thompson: "One day I was working on a design for a mixer that I thought might have commercial value, and one of our friends came and said 'You ought to call you company MXR, for mixer'."
Although I do not favor Gilmour a lot, his tone is from the fingers and the pick mostly. Core foundation of pedals setting is quite similar to his tone when recommended Gilmour setting is dialed, BUT Rob's picking is kinda harsh to sound like him.
Fine. Now I want a Super Badass Distortion.

The Captain face at 6:00 NOT BAD
The Captain face at 6:18 REALLY BAD
I agree so much!!! I love the laid back bluesy sounds of the Captain!!!
That blue strat is freaking gorgeous.
Chappers approves of the Super Badass. That's all I need.
and to say that I thought it was an actual amp... THIS FRIDGE IS SO AMAZING!!!

Best review in a while ... awesome !

That's awesome dude! What are the pickups and tuners like? I would be inclined to change the pickups but just wondering what they are like! :)

Yeah dude, I would chuck some bare knuckles in there. I would love to get the ML-7 as well.

on the topic of transistors, BJTs require current to activate whilst FETs require a certain voltage on the gate.
I have the MXR Super Badass and I love it! Now what I want with it is an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer to give it a boost with the Super Badass, I also have the MXR 10 band EQ to adjust the tone.
I have both of those, both great!
just the same setting with me except that I use a 6-band EQ owing to my pedalboard size
The Custom Badass Modified OD is good for that. With those 3 you'd have tone for days.
well yes without a voltage current won't flow, but if you have an NPN BJT the current has to flow into the base not away from it.
Love you guys....been following all the Capt & Chap's vid. Cant get enuff of the Marshall mini fridge too \m/
That 7-string riff towards the end was insane!
HOOOOLY CRAAAAAP!!!!!! I just relized rob quoted coming to america. 4:39
Chappers shreds and rocks like a boss. BUT, the captain has the blues well down. Bring it on home Captain!
The ML-3 with a bit of distortion from the Super Badass really gives that ZZ Top vibe!
compared to the EVH, the superbadass has much less prescence (mids), and a flubby bottom but it might be the way they set it up, cus in all other vids, it sounds much better than in this vid
I know this is an old reply but watch the vid. He has kids scooped to like 9 oclock, bass and highs at 4oclock
Real useful peace of kit man, enjoy it!
Since I'm still trying to figure out what type of guitarist I am, the contrast in a single video was useful. Thanks!
Love my FET driver. It's totally that BK Butler tone.
FET is field effective transistors, which is supposed to sound like tube
Captain Lee at the controls. Love it.
That is a super badass refrigerator. I want one!
Nothing in a pedal will beat the pure tube tone of the 5150III,simple as that.
FET = Field effect transistor. It's like a normal transistor, except it's smaller and has high input impedence.
FET - Fire emitting transistor. They get hot!
At around 11:40 the capt sounded really good. Like that bit if cluck on the notes
Excellent mixing Stick!!
I really like that red 8 string behind you, what is it and can you do a demo at some point please?
i think you just saved me a few quid! ... i was thinking about getting a fet driver ... but it sounds nothing like what i was looking for... thanks guys
Absolutely no contest between the MXR and EVH!
Sounds like Amin7 to D7 with walking bass single notes (E, G, G#). So basically a ii-V vamp in GMaj with some chromatic bass note leading back to A min.
Love these videos so much
Great pedal and playing by the way.
I couldn't help but notice the eight string in the back round at 1:42. You guys should do an eight string guitar shootout.
I don't like fizzy sounds of it, but I think you can dial back the treble.
Both pedals together sounded fucking sick! :o
Sounds like there are serious phase issues when running both amps with the badass distortion.
"The 5150 sounds too fizzy" is kind of like saying "This ice is too cold." Fizzy is all it does.
I love the Marshall Fridge!!

Great pedal and playing by the way..
you know? it's alright my brothers i enjoy you music and omg Lee love his blues!!!
I would love to see Rob and Lee review the iOS app Jamup Pro XT and some of the addon packs!
You guys should review some seven and eight strings like the Jackson used in this video.
FET. Field effect transistor.. basically basically voltage fluctuation sag like a tube rectifier..
The Sand colored Jackson through the EVH combo was fucking ridiculous! Good demo all around though.
Super affordable guitar too! Now I'm thinking about getting that guitar! :P

Dat FAT Driver... Awesome! My fav. Padel!
Nevermind the pedals, great info and fun... The frigde stole the whole show!!!!!!!!
(i know i'm probably the last one who hadn't seen it)
Hey love your videos! keep rocking! also bring back the elves for xmas this year they are funny and hot
When are the reviews of those 8 strings on the walls coming???
What's the riff at 14:46? *_*
Liam Thomas black Betty?
Kinda funny theres a piece of tape on robs strap that covers the fender name but not the logo thats upsidedown. Is there a reason for that?
The Dutch Brand you were looking for is Van Weelden Amplification.
It is! you can order it at andertons :D
That intro! :D
got some Stone Gossard tones there as well
my guitar hero Buz Ziegler has used MXR for years
I have the MXR super bad ass, and it fricken kills!
Hey fellow SPUD. Sorry I've been Spud since 1972 when I attacked a tray of roast potatoes and finished the lot. depends on what kind of amp you are useing
Please tell me... How do you coil tap a double single coil?
Just bought 3 MXR Fet Drivers in 1 week! the 3rd one black Joe Bonamassa box...:
WORLDS BEST JAZZ PEDAL with a strat: every note PURE VELVET!!! I kid you soo not!

A FET is a Field Effect Transistor by the way.
Field effect transistor. U know that chappers. Nice stooging in a good way lol.
Waitwaitwait, I know I'm quite late here, but TEKKEN, in a Chappers vid?? I like these guys even MORE now!
well it depends on taste, I would go for MXR, but not with Fender amp
So...the Captain is a dedicated knob twiddler? Goodness but that sounded rather naughty.
The Fet got high output vs. the super bad pedal but my choice is the super bad
Is this pre or post new rob? He starting to look like my tubby build again.
Running both the 5150 and the fender+badass in stereo would be a great sound in a recording.
Which pedal sounds more like Slash's Tone? MXR 78 Distortion or MXR Super Badass ?
Marshall Silver Jubilee.
The Super Badass gain at halfway and treble around 7, then fuck around with the mids and bass to adjust to your amp :)
+Rocking Train super badasss for sure
Did you play an Apartment 26 song or was I mistaken? When you first compared the Super BadAss to the 5150iii. Sounded great either way.
Excelente video !!! muy buena la comparación, very good boys !!!
Very cool!
Whats the captain playing at 11:25 ??? thanks!
hes just improvising.
what is it that you are playing at 1:30
Although I do not favor Gilmour a lot, his tone is from the fingers and the pick mostly. Core foundation of pedals setting is quite similar to his tone when recommended Gilmour setting is dialed, BUT Rob's picking is kinda harsh to sound like him.
nice1 mate, thanks. just found one for 25 quid.
how do they switch between amps like that?.
Are you going to do a demo on the new "Tone Garage" series from Vox.
( I think the "trike fuzz" looks badass !)
Awesome video btw ! :D
Love ur vids
Anyone know what Rob plays from 5:33?
I'd say the gain was about the same, and at least the Super Badass into the Fender Hot Rod doesn't sound fizzy.
Does that amazing guitar playing at 1:30 have a tab or anything?
+Sean McGeachie You can clearly see his fingers haha, just figure it out!
man!!
i have beed to bonamassa show 2 days ago and this is exactly the same sound
that pedal is really amazing i wwant it
what's the song at 14:48?
I've googled and youtubed and have yet found an answer.. whats an inexpensive amp that really accentuates Stratocaster tone
Would love to hear the Fet Driver through the EVH.
Can you do a review on the Marshall fridge. I've heard they still work as a amp.
man have you reviewed those jacksons in the background?? GAS man
whats the song at 14:47
That Jacksons need to be reviewed !!!
Hello, Please can you do a review of the new fender reissue starcaster and coronado guitars? (please, thank you)
