I wear a pocket leather watch holder that fits on belt. I bought it from eBay. It is really easy to pull the pocket watch up to check time.
I carry 1896 coin silver hunter railroad 17 jewel railroad pocket watch . I wear it daily. It keeps good time. It has a Victorian sterling watch chain.

Famous WW2 German pilots watches or called Fleigers were actually 55mm pocketwatches fitted with lugs on the sides and came with long leather bands to wear outside of flight jackets,, so,, yes,, pocket watches were very much used in battle

On the wrist, yes. I have a 65mm Messerschmidt myself. Once you strap it to your wrist it isn't a pocket watch anymore.

I have two antique pocket watches coming this week, to go with two modern ones. Very excited!

Another thing is some folks cannot wear anything on their wrist for health reasons or due to the demanding tasks they do which no wristwatch (not even a G-Shock) would survive. So a watch in your pocket that you only occasionally bring out to check the time, is a great alternative. I also love how you can wear many of them as a necklace. And the ones with a spring-lid also sometimes incorporate an additional glass that can be used as magnifying glass or they are having a nice decorative motive and inside you can add a little photo of your loved ones to make this timekeeper a real personalized sentimental piece for you.

Three piece suits are pretty popular nowadays. A pocket watch and chain is a perfect finishing touch if you wear a vest.

I had my great-grandfathers 3 finger Elgin pocket watch from 1901 serviced earlier this year and now I display it under a glass dome instead of it sitting in a keepsake cigar box, probably for many decades. I would say that it definitely sparked my first interest in mechanical watches, I just didn't know it at the time. I'm currently having a secometer pocket watch fixed up because I think it's the coolest thing I have seen in a pocket watch.

They used pocket watches extensively in WW11. They even had courses on how to fix and maintain them.
TM 9-1575 was the course. Look it up.
    Cheers

That's why in WWI soldiers put pocket watches into leather wrist cases. You literally can't fight with a pocket watch. There were definitely some pocket watches used, but not as a primary timepiece by soldiers. You can look that up too.

Pandora. The company that make women's bracelets and charms have a perfect tool for opening backings of pocket watches. Worth a mention because you scratched the absolute mothers out that case. Why on earth did you use a knife.

No jewels general means very low grade inexpensive watch often referred to as the dollar watch. Such movement were made in pocket watches to the mid 70s and is not a way to tell the age of watch.

Wrong style dial for military watch military pocket watches were generally size 16 rarely 18 ( ww1) converted to wear on wrist in ww1 size 10, 6 and 0 in ww2 all military pocket watches were size 16 with and had 7 and higher jewels depending on their use in the military. With very rare exception some dollar watches were used by the military's of the world. What they all had in common were specific dials depending again where and how used, and every military watch reguardless of country the case has very distinct military markings. Your watch has nothing at all to identify it as military, the extra case was originally designed for mountain climbers not the military.
