We did use a tool that took it up only so far. I didn't have eye bolts to place into the spark plug holes to pull it up the rest of the way. I have heard about the rope trick too, but choose to not go that route as some folks said they ended up with damage. I don't remember where it was at this moment.

Better to use a head remover tool. Or try the "rope in the cylinder" and turning over the engine.
