WHAT AN AMAZING JOB MEN you literally cleared my mind, i was thinking about a 100% phys to fire with ngamahus and avatar of fire, getting flamability fire pen and some other fire pen from the bottom of the tree, also, infernal with abyssal is a 18% monster life as dmg on dead that cannot be reflected so thats pretty much what im doing and why i like it, sad i cant do any fire build anti reflect bcs of the consuming dark nerf, if possible only with legacy and well.... is not worth.
can you make a guide on amor and all the damage medigation pls? like how does amor work and how does buffs like artic amor or basalt flask or endurance charges add up? or lightning coil & taste of hate etc
Physical damage mitigations, such as armour, reduce less damage as the hit gets larger. Elemental resistances always reduce the same percentage regardless of the hit size. This is why items like Lightning Coil, and other items that convert physical damage to elemental damage are valuable to your defense.
EE, I remembered asking you your graphics settings but i can't seem to find what video it was on, sorry for the bother but could you tell me what they were?
I've notice when looking at other peoples gear it seems like people have a way to add an elemental resistance to their rare items. Anyone know how they are doing this?
very nice video mate, However i still have the same question in my head: Against heavy resistance targets, whats the optimal penetration? 40? 50%? i need a number please
+Josep aldosa Its very dependant per monster, but endgame bosses generally have 40% resistance. Generally going for roughly the equivalent of a more multiplier gem (50%) is a good target
some say 40% is optimal, and some say as much as you can get, since monster can be minus resistance.. however i don't think its worth to stack it endlessly due to diminishing. What do you think? i need a perfect number :D
I have been busy with real life, as well as working on video content and taking my routine break from PoE (usually play 2 of the 3 months of a league) in prep for Beta and 3.0. Should be streaming Beta into 3.0 soon!
I guess i don't see why penetration works the same was as -resistance effects (curse). They read differently so i assumed that one pens the percentage of total resistance and the other just does a flat - to those resistances.
yes, if u thinking in more damage, more fire penetration provide u more damage because is the damage is multiplicative with the negative resistance, the video explain wich gem cause more damage (fire penetration or slower projectile), in your case, you have only one curse gem to cause more damage (elemental weakness is other option but obviusly flammability is better). Now if u needed more defensive aura (artic armour, vitality, etc) u can swaped, this case is with flammability and blasphemy, if u curse enemy manually, flammability its just more damage. Sorry for my english, i try my best.
Is there a video/site JUST LIKE THIS that explains the difference between stats? Like (Cast Speed vs. Attack Speed) or (Spell Damage, Cold Damage, Cold Damage to Spells, etc.) Is there something like that out there?
The math is correct but is a snake oil approach. Looking at the raw numbers you still only save 1% of the applied damage per point. Scaling and exponent but at the start you say its linear. Simple each point = remove 1% of the incoming damage. Changing the formula so that you are showing how much you are reducing the left over by is ridiculous. You should use these formula with a company and show that if they reduce the discount on an item by 1% when its at 75% will increase profit by 4%. Margins are not profit. The correct argument here is that Damage Resistance is not affected by scale of level (diminishing returns). Hence. 50% res at low level damage 100 per hit = 50HP saved. where as 2% res at high level damage 1000 = 50HP saved.
I am glad I'm not the only one who noticed this; he even said at the beginning that it's a FLAT reduction... but then twists the numbers in a way that is very misleading. To anyone reading this, elemental resistances do NOT become more "efficient" or effective as you gain more. They reduce elemental damage taken by the flat percentage, from 0-100% resistance.
The math and thinking about the increasing gains on resistances is wrong. Sorry. For 1000 damage, each percentage point of resistance reduces damage taken by 10. Every point is equally valuable and removes the say amount. Considering the delta damage taken between x and x+1 is an arbitrary, and I would argue unhelpful, metric. This is a longstanding issue of confusing though, and you are by no means the first to consider it from this perspective. But the effect of increase resistances is pretty simple, and it's linear :)
It removes the same amount from the total hit, however you have to consider the damage you are taking relative to the damage mitigated. Every point becomes worth more and more. Eventually getting to 98 -> 99 where that 1% of resistance removes 50% of the incoming damage. And then 100% of incoming damage with 99% -> 100%. You for sure get more and more value from each maximum resistance gained. Sorry.
@@EngineeringEternity Hm. Right. I understand that. But you would agree, every percentage point reduces the same amount of damage, right? 10 damage, in this example? So the 1st point reduces damage by 10, and the 100th by... 10? The fact that the ratio of "10" to total damage taken varies, I don't think matters. Rather, it makes it seem important, when it's not (necessarily). 10/100 is 10%, 10/10 is 100%. Buts it's still just 10. The ratios and percentages you are giving are valid, but I don't see justification that the 100th point of resist reduces damage taken more than a 1st. I'm open to changing my mind, but hopefully you see my point! :)
@@EngineeringEternity Here's another (arbitrary) way to look at it. Going from 1 to 2 results in +100% damage resisted. Going from 10 to 11 results in only +10% damage resisted. Therefore, going from 1 to 2 is more valuable than going from 10 to 11. The math is valid, but the conclusion is a non sequiter. Getty max resist and higher is very important of course, but I think for different reasons than "non-linear scaling" of resistance effectiveness. I'm actually a game developer btw, and study and design these kinds of relationships for a living. :)
@@EngineeringEternity Matthew is right. What you showed is a way to confuse people with a meaningless/arbitrary mathematical relationship. Elemental resistances always reduce damage by the same amount (in this case 10dmg.). This is a case of relative vs absolute change. It's like cutting a pie in half, and then cutting that half in half. Wow, I ate 50% of the pie, and then 50% of the pie! And the best part is, there's still 50% remaining! So I actually get to ate 150% of my pie! With this logic, you can eat an infinite amount of pie. Because you make the mistake of thinking the % of the pie remaining is the % of the WHOLE pie. Which is wrong. Every % point of elemental resistance cuts the same, absolute amount of damage.
No offence, but I think that your fire pen vs slower proj comparison is incorrect due to mobs being able to have negative resistance and increasing the damage you do with more pen.
The function and attached graph show the results when the monster has negative resistances. You do perform more damage, even when the monster is negative resistance, with the slower projectiles gem in this example.
You don't seem to mention negative resists at all - I think it factors in rather heavily. lets say a mob has 10% fire resistance, and you have 30% fire penetration. If you deal 100 base fire damage, you would deal 90damage without penetration, and 120 damage with the penetration as they take 20% more fire damage - so basically its a 33more multiplier. I think its worth factoring in, as resistance reduction stacking (by curses and penetration) can be quite valueable - especially on RF for example :-) "Both reduction (as from curses), and penetration (as from Penetration gems), can reduce a target's resistance below 0%. There is no minimum resistance floor." - From 'Resistance' on wiki.
if u talking with curse, you're right, but fire penetration doesn't work with rf because didn't hit, and the penetration only work with hits, only resistances reduction works with rf Sorry for my english, i try my best.
*HOLD THE PHONE!!!!!!* 2 Things...... 1: Penetration can take effective resists into negative??????? (i.e.: 10% penetration vs 0% resist = -10% resist?) I was always led to believe that penetration only pushed resist to zero........ 2: More multipliers are multiplicative with other More Multipliers?!?!?!?!?! (i.e.: Support gems damage * 1.44 * 1.49 * 1.55 * 1.29 = damage*4.29) I was always lead to believe that all "More" multipliers were additive..... (i.e.: Support gems damage * (.44+.49+.55+.29) = damage*2.77) What have i been doing with my life?!

your guides are amazingly well created and illustrated. Keep up the good work
Great videos, informative, not confusion, straightforward. Keep up the good work!
Another high-quality video from EE. Keep up the good work!

Awesome Video there bro - keep pouring in :)
just subscribed after watching this video. thank you for your quality and informative videos.
Love your videos! They are big part of my experience with Path of Exile, thank you! :)
Only one thing is clear here, this game requires a 8 year degree to fully understand.
Maybe only a 4 year degree ;)
sweet mother of 60fps, may the PC gods be with you. Sooo smoth picture!
yeah was so smooth but my pc can't handle 1080@60fps :D
yea the video i saw before this was so bad in quality(not EE's video) and the moment this video started i notice that satisfying smoothness.
Thanks for the great guide. Please do one on armor, evasion optimization, at what point they get too expensive to stack. Thanks.
Can you do a video on how to use Vaal Orbs? I have no idea what to do with them.
fucking hell that format, ggg hiring you to finally make some fucking tutorials for new players?
+yoitsgunattack nope, all on my own accord

Also, what was that build at the beginning?
I think some EK MF LL build ^^
It is linked in the description, the first character showcased! I don't currently have it setup for magic find however.
Thanks!! It looked really cool.

I have -55% to all elements and -40% to chaos. Note this is without any gear? Why do I have minus to resistances?? Please help!

Elemental Penetration still useless for Inquisitor right?
Yes, I forgot to mention this. Good catch.
Engineering Eternity no problem bro, love your content =D
Then could you please update the video with this info ? Like putting a short video right after the original one?
ya, for more views =D

Question: What's that spin to win build in the video?
Check the description!
