I am an Automotive Technician with over 30 yrs experience this kid is great, what he has done is build a monster Rally Car and what he has done is simplify everything that goes into building a rally car, ' handbrake lever with 2 master cylinders that can operate the hand brake and split the drive from 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive all at the same time, big wheel bearings with CV joints fitted into them' GREAT WORK went into this build
Even in finishing phase of 2023 this was very much decent viewing. HPA has come such a long way since those early days, I would never have guessed it would have become the amazing learning institution it is today. Thank you for a wealth of memories in your interviews over the years 🤝
People saying he never gets technical and assume he's lying because of that listen. Not all people can explain how and why they do things in detail, it's actually quite hard unless you have studied and recited that information. This guy obviously picked up on everything as he went along, he learned by trial and error and thus the details of exactly how things are done get fuzzy. It's also the way he gets interviewed, the questions are not his so he has to answer to another persons question which is always harder than just explaining what he did on that part or this part. Just because he can't say exact details doesn't mean he didn't do the work.
Most people out there will say he's lying because people are lazy out there, well done to you Sir, keep doing what you doing, you are a true inspiration to many. That car is phenomenal, absolutely amazing. I love it ❣️❣️
he is a fucking kid ....his ability and work ethic i imagine are next level I'm surprised no one has hunted him down and recruited him I am twice his age twice his experience and have i expect more formal training and i would be happy if my lifes work was as impressive as that car ...
Adam Naylor After viewing this, I would believe his passion couldn't be slaved to any company - given he's too talented to work for someone else. He's got CEO written all over him.
Twice the experience? So you have done what he has done....twice? Where's your ground up built car that's an engineering marvel that has been featured across international motoring media?
He reminds me of the hyper skilled but sadly late John Britten. He was also a New Zeeland bloke who build himself a V twin racing motorcycle from the ground up. He literally build every part of the bike himself including the castings of the engine. The inhouse design of the complete bike was fabulous and beyond everything what was seen in the racing world by then. His bike was mentioned by many as the greatest motorcycle ever build and I totally agree with that. Once and a while people with extraordinary skills seem to pop up out of nowhere. They make things that just seem to good to be true, actually the people who can't believe they did it all by themselves embody the best compliments a wonderboy can get.
Thanks Alex, your video was inspirational you've showed the world what a young man can achieve when you set your mind on a project. Your parents must be so proud of you. All the best for the future.
Fantastic interview . It's great to see the guy asking the questions know what he's talking about. Learned a lot from both these young men. Awesome car, modest talented builder that can drive.
+Rusty Nutzz yep , we saw it there first but this channel seems much more scientific than any other , in spit of their hiding " very few followers and seems to give info only for paying clients " and its OK both ways
wow just found this , this guy is the four wheel genius , like richard britten is the 2 wheel new zealand genius , i dont know what you guys put on your cornflakes but keep it up
How about a B-Roll footage of the components as you talk with the car builders? Just seeing two people talk is like the news. Otherwise great stuff, keep it up!
We add B-Roll where possible. You'll see it more in the newer videos (this one is very old) as the team is now bigger and it's easier to manage. That said, sometimes at an event which ARE dynamic (the cars are there to be used!) it is just impossible to get time with a vehicle, but we do our best =) - Taz.
Yes there is always a team of people behind something like this but he might have just chosen poor wording there to express that it is his project, or not, we just are interviewing here at the end of the day 😎 Hope you enjoyed it - Taz.
I recall this guy visiting Andrew Burton in Lyonshall. He spent some time, days indeed, getting the value of Andrew’s experiences, looking at his car it’s a replica in many ways, except I don’t think he has the suspension travel of Burton’s machine. Andrew’s such a clever chap he evolved his car from a 6R4 over many years painstakingly making improvements. He’s generous to a fault too with his know how. Seeing the in car he certainly doesn’t have the fluidity of Andrew’s driving, he’s more Frank Kelly!. Might be his cars a little shorter and more dynamic on the polar moment. Exiting people do this stuff, then get smothered out of competition by the puppets of the FIA. spectators and club motorsport’s loss.
01:05 Alas, Alex totally failed to answer his question. But nevermind, there are others who are more open and clear about the path they took to achieve excellence.
Andy Forrest...if you are watching this video. Mr. Kelsey can very well be your wing Man "Rally Circuit". Hey guys, check out Andy Forrest *SUbaru...for sure this will very much surprise you what the Man has accomplished, thus far!! Team SUpra (means "above")
5:30 when he starts talking about the internals, did he add a helper spring in the internals? That's a new one, doesn't sound to dumb at first thought.
They will be higher maintenance than a Corolla, all race engines are, but not being able to turn them over by hand is a myth. Temperatures before starting to make sure the oil is doing its job and not stressing the engine for no reason is why oil and coolant will be preheated in some engines from Formula-1 to NASCAR and many other classes - Taz.
When u technically know what you want to build, you don't have to build it alone. You need team, an expert to cut the time and effort to create from 1 part to other parts, to gave you their knowledge and experience that focus on each vital parts which will make your idea WORKS.
Alex mentioned specific helpers by name but he suggested they worked together on various problems. He ,smartly, bought a good engine and gearbox and ECU. This is all usual practise for a car build. He said he'd been making things since he was very young so I guess he has the welding and fab skills needed, So I think he's genuine. The thing in the way is the cost and maybe his family has the resources. But lets not forget that most drivers in top formula's buy their seats this is hardly an objection in this case. I don't know these details but just suppose. As for Alex's lack of articulation, there are many talented Kiwi engineers/car builders who can just do it but are tongue tied if asked to ex[plain.
im sorry that should have been john britten in my last comment i got mixed up between the road racer richard and the genius nz designer john britten , no disrespect intended
The host has a specific accent for shore) The guy, whom he was interviewing, was less comfortable then in Smoking tires video and sounded like he haven't done anything to the car his hands
listen to the video he dropping all these names for every part of the build not much he's done on how own at all . it's always me and so and so designed this or built that . where does he mention just himself in working on the car. I bet his Dads loaded and he could d afford industry experts to help him who would be very expensive indeed the engine alone is tons of money its a formula racing engine they are crazy money even second hand
Got some evidence or are you the big fraud. Why should anyone trust you, when you make this sort of statement people expect you to explain, otherwise it's libel.
No idea, I don't know him but he doesn't own Possum Bourne Motorsport, hasn't for years. The guy who owns it now (Patrick I think) is apparently awesome from what I've seen and heard 😎 - Taz. www.possumbournemotorsport.com/ th-cam.com/channels/tNNuOzAegcbttmfyO_Imaw.html

He's definitely a genius, he makes highly complex engineering sound simple. Her has that John Britten type of "do it yourself" attitude.
I was thinking John Britten also. Its crazy what great engineers those New Zealanders are!

Not only did he built the car but he's a beast driving it too
Alex is an inspiration to those who don't do well at school.
This is what happens when you have talent and intelligence but also a NETWORK of people who love and care about you and want you to succeed
The way he put this project down is brilliant, and having one sport ECu start the and manage the engine, and gearbox is genius!
Most people out there will say he's lying because people are lazy out there, well done to you Sir, keep doing what you doing, you are a true inspiration to many. That car is phenomenal, absolutely amazing. I love it ❣️❣️

Super refreshing, inspirational and all round impressive. Much respect earned

He appears to just make the performance come out through his driving.
This guy is fantastic.
This guy is AMAZING 👏 🙌. Respect men

High Performance Academy Aus an NZ are really making moves in the performance car world these days, it's to be admired for sure!
So how much did the whole build cost? They started talking about it but never actually got to it.
Aren't GP2 engines super high maintenance? I heard the tolerances are so tight, that they can't even start the engine with out externally warm it up.
They will be higher maintenance than a Corolla, all race engines are, but not being able to turn them over by hand is a myth.
