  • Is the Garmin Approach S42 the Garmin golf watch to get? We'll explore the features of the newest addition to the Garmin golf watch family.
With a full color touch screen, golf gps and a feature set with some nice extras, I think it's a solid value and fits nicely within the Garmin product line.

Decided to upgrade to the S42 from the S10, a watch that has served me well for the last 2 years but between the square shape I do not care for and lack of fitness features the S42 looks perfect.

Hello please note the bezel is NOT ceramic but polished metal. The ceramic bezel is on the more expensive S62 model. I actually prefer the S42 because its much simpler watch and tells me the basic info in a smart package. Had owned the s62 but did'nt find it easy but cumbersome hone in on the course. Also the pinponter i found sometimes worked and on several occasions was steering me in the wrong direction despite having the latest update.

Really interesting. I’ve always been torn on actually using a Garmin watch for my rounds of golf. I’ve always had my Apple watch and used V1 game but I do find myself wanting something simpler and that can easily track my distances as well. Might look into getting one of these!

    • @LetsPlayThru

The nice thing about the golf specific watches is the GPS yardage is generally spot on. I've had trouble with my iphone / apple watch apps bouncing around a bit and mobile signal dependent. These use the satellite triangulation so they go anywhere and seem very accurate to me.

Unless budget is your serious concern or setback, the S62 is a much better watch with better features. Mainly it gives you a full hole layout so you can see exactly where the hazards are or better idea how to play the hole. Also very handy when playing a new course for the first time along with its zoom in feature to pinpoint your shots/distances. Where the S42 and lower models just have a cheesy line/ladder chart indicator. That feature alone I think propels the S62 above the rest. The virtual caddy is also solid although I don't really use that much. Excited to see the update to the S62 next year if they are still on the same cycle.
