Awesome video! I loved that you included all the parts when trying one strategy, than thinking how to do it better, pivoting and sharing what were your thoughts on the go. We, the viewers, can feel like part of this journey with you. Keep up with more of this format. It helps to think out of the box from what we usually do fishing and learn new ways when things are not working. Ohhh and the last part of weighting, cleaning, cooking and eating was a perfect 10 too!
@23:31 Rob... I'm am so proud of you...for SO many reasons! .... I've been watching you since that shark kayaking trip in Galveston (yrs ago!). But, the SECOND you were hooked up (@23:31), I put my fists in the air and said out loud, "C'mon Rob. You GOT this!!!" And, it was the biggest Grouper of your Life!! This made me so happy, as it did ALL of us! ........ First, Team USA Captain Now, your PB Grouper. Life is good for you! Huge Congrats on ALL of it! ...... If I sound like a dad, it's because I'm likely YOUR dad's age. LOL One day, I'm coming to Los Busos to meet you! Maybe the January ponga trip. I hope so! Until then... Peace, my friend.
I’ve been a fan for years amigo. It’s so cool to see you having a blast and absolutely crushing it while following your dreams. A true inspiration keep doing you bro!
Man what a cool video. Both of those fish were definitely worth the price of admission. I suppose the corvina that we caught back in the 60s in the Salton Sea are the same fish. I remember some huge ones my Dad caught back in those days and I think they don't exist there anymore because the water there became too salty due to run off from the surrounding area. That grouper was beautiful and I'm sure made some great eating along with the corvina. Thanks for the great video 😎
Good luck on the competition!! Make America Proud! 🇺🇸🎣🐠 Currently training in the weight room still pretty small to haul a Goliath hoping to plan a trip for 2025 💯
Been watching you years also. My son and I bought two Nomad kayaks produced in Houston, TX last year. Haven't been able to get them out a lot but hope to this fall. One suggestion when you are fishing in Panama, I don't speak Spanish at all so I you could close caption your speech with the guys on the Ponga boats, I won't feel left out. Both my son and I want to come to Panama and fish one of these years. As I turned 65 this year, I might have to fish mostly out of the Ponga. I wear out pretty quick in the kayak.
that corvina isn't the more common type down there (yellowfin corvina) it's a rarer type called orangemouth corvina. They stocked them in the salton sea in california decades ago, and for decades they were a thriving fishery there. Pretty incredible piece of California angling history.
Hi Rob, lived and fished near Valencia for 20yrs. You'll love it there but, trust me, Valencia is a stunningly beautiful historic city. Make time to do a little exploring, especially El Centre de Scencias. You won't regret it and you'll remembering forever. I recommend DIY, buy a map, rent a bicycle and just absorb the place. Buen viaje amigo.😊
Trying to think of something he hasn't caught hahahaha. Rooster, check. Tuna, check. A type of billfish maybe? Not sure if Rob has gotten a grouper there. Hmmm. It'll be an epic video either way man!
Thanks!
Wow thanks so much! 🙌🏼

Translation: Anywhere from an hour to see ya tomorrow. lol

What reels and rods are you using? What size setups for the bonito and snappers?

Is this the same Valencia that El Cid ruled over for a period of time? Lots of fascinating history!
What gaff is that you are using??? Thanks 🙏🏻 nice catch
I would love to get some team USA merch
So cool
Curious why you're using the conventional reel w/spinning rod? Seemed like it kept wanting to roll over in your hands.
What's your t-shirt size Robert? I'll have an "I got spanked in Valencia" shirt waiting for you on October 30th.
