April; I am so completely impressed with what you have done here. My second gig was that of a swimming pool designer and builder for many years. Lighting was a key element for the enjoyment of the entire pool and backyard environment for my clients. I learned so much from you. We are almost neighbors (I’m in Brenham) and I would love to visit your shop and this deck….we are planning our own and this series will be a key resource for us!

April did an excellent job installing her lighting system and provided great information. I've been working with Kichler landscape lighting, outdoor lighting, and ceiling fans for nearly a decade and love it. It simply outlast the competition and is far superior to anything found at the big box stores or on Amazon. If anyone is looking to purchase Kichler and wants to purchase from a knowledgeable distributor, I recommend the Wolf Creek Company.

She did not provide information on cost? It’s rather misleading if you ask me.

Beautiful build. Love the final results. My old eyes would say the walkway is a trip hazard as there doesn't appear to be enough light, but that could just be the camera. I hope you get to host many many evenings of outdoor enjoyment

Incredible! The lighting at night makes it look like one of those outdoor dining things you see on like instagram of people on vacay in a high end resort in bali or bora bora and fire breathing dancers etc. In the background performing during a dinner show!

What about adding movable wind breaks for more comfort on windy days?
Or if you really want to go over the top add openable glass walls all around and suddenly you'd have an outdoor living room with kitchen that would retain heat even when it was cold outside.

I’ve been watching this series and I have a couple questions. With all of that lighting, won’t that attract bugs in the summer? Your log boxes, under the floor and walk path, aren’t you concerned with rattlesnakes up under there? I live in Tulsa and even in the out skirts of town we have rattlesnakes and some scorpions. Just curious. It looks fantastic!!!!

April, do you plan on putting lattice or anything around the bottom of the deck to keep the critters out? It would be cool to see how to cut the pieces whether it be in CAD or something simple like cardboard. Also your thoughts to make an access panel to get to the electronics.

April, amazing work as always. Question about the controllers. Did you have to use three separate transformers for the three zones you described? I’m currently designing our patio and would like to break out 2-3 zones that are also controllable by switch. Wondering if you were able to run multiple switches on the same transformer or if you had individual transformers? Thanks in advance.

    April nice lighting job.
A couple suggestions. For the hard scape lighting, under the bar, you could have used four fixtures to give the visual impression of light flow originating from the hanging fixtures, through the bar, and washing the stonework.
Next you maybe considering for next week's path build. So I maybe jumping the gun. With a winding deck pathway to potential of slip and fall accidents make for a very real safety hazard. It may have been the Iris on the camera or the lack of ambient light. But you could add lights in the trees. Aimed at the pathway. Each fixture would have motion detectors. Then as a person enters the beam it would switch on the light for that stretch of decking. But be sure the light spills over the edge of the decking. That's where most trip/slip and falls occur.
    ~Jim

Using a Timer made me think of Home Alone. The kid knew when every house's Lights came on because of Timers. They sell Vacation Timers, which are random, but are used indoors.
