🚛 *Decoding OBS Trucks: Trim Levels and More:*
The period from 1988 to 1998 marked a significant era for GM trucks, introducing the OBS trucks that enthusiasts hold dear. Whether you're eyeing a two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, knowing the distinctions is crucial. In 1988, GM maintained the C series for two-wheel drive and the K series for four-wheel drive. However, the nomenclature shifted from 10, 20, and 30 series to 1500, 2500, and 3500 series, denoting half-ton, three-quarter-ton, and one-ton towing capacities.
🏞️ *1. Trim Levels: Cheyenne, Scottsdale, Silverado:*
When it comes to trim levels, GM offered the Cheyenne, Scottsdale, and Silverado options. The Cheyenne, reminiscent of the workhorse Custom Deluxe from previous generations, was the spartan option with limited features. Scottsdale stepped it up, providing more creature comforts and a quad-headlight front grille assembly. Sitting atop the hierarchy was the Silverado, Chevrolet's flagship with nearly all the bells and whistles, offering a car-like feel and comfort.
🚀 *Performance Insight: Obsessing Over the Z71 Package:*
But let's not forget about the performance packages. The Z71, known as the off-road chassis package, was a game-changer. Exclusive to K-series or four-wheel drive trucks, it offered skid plates, stylish aluminum wheels, and Bilstein shocks, delivering a rugged off-road experience. If you stumble upon an OBS truck with the Z71 package, consider it a hidden gem.
🔥 *2. Packages: Work Truck, Sports Package, SS454:*
Moving on to packages, the Work Truck (WT) or "workhorse" was a fleet-focused option, spartan in features and ideal for commercial use. On the other end of the spectrum, the Sports Package added a touch of sportiness, offering monochromatic paint, sleek aluminum wheels, and Silverado-like interiors. Finally, the SS454, available from 1990 to 1993, was the apex predator. All-black, monochromatic, and equipped with a powerful 454 cubic inch motor, it was a collector's dream.
    📦 *Collector's Corner: The SS454 Legacy:*
While the SS454 may be more of a collector's dream today, it showcased GM's willingness to experiment and cater to performance enthusiasts. Keep an eye out at classic car shows; you might just spot one of these iconic trucks.

@@FirstPlaceAutoParts Is a free 1990 K2500 worth putting 3k into? I'm in highschool. It has 4x4, auto, 350, ext cab, shortbed, and believe it's a silverado

@@Jimmy-dp7fd If it's complete and not rotted out, yes. You'd have a hard time finding one running and driving for 3k that's not beat to hell

My grandmother bought a 88 GMC SLE that someone else had ordered but never bought, leaving it there on the lot. Its a little bit different than what was standard, while being the top trim level the person who originally ordered the truck wanted manual windows. So here I am, with that very same truck that is the highest trim level of its year... with manual windows.
Its a great truck and I will never sell it, especially since its my first vehicle so sentimental reasons too.

I used to be the same way when I ordered. Back in the 90's it seemed liek that shit just tore up, I used to think power windows in a truck was goofy, lol. Crazy how things change....

Anyone know how to tell if you have factory power lock? My 94 GMC Sierra has Aftermarket Key Fob so Im not sure if the Truck has factory power lock and the owner before me was just to lazy to repair it?
