DIY Wedding - Candle Place Cards Using Tissue paper Transfers

- I have seen a few TH-cam videos on this subject but most are for images from ink stamps not text. My tissue paper was printed on using an ink jet printer.
I'll be using these in my DIY Candlesticks at my wedding for name tags.

The best DIY craft video I've watched so far !! It worked a treat after a few attempts. First attempt jammed my printer severely but managed to fix it and gave it another go with a few minor changes. I used a font called odstemplik.

For my wedding I will be doing an A3 size alphabetic list that will have the persons table number on it & the candles will be in front of each seat.
You could always add the table numbers on the candle (with the name) or a little tag on each candle stick with a ribbon or group them into table numbers then place them all on a table for people to collect before interning the reception. Or any other option you may think best suits your event.

Is thereany specific candle to use for this project? I tried using a thin candle but it didn't work. The candle just melted

I was just looking at your video thanks for sharing I had a thought about fitting the candle into the candlestick .if the candlestick is too big then what you can do is melt the end of the same candle or another candle and let it drip into the candlestick before the candle wax dries. Drip it and put the candle into the hole and that should allow it to bond and stand without any space problems and you won't have to stick any paper inside of the candlestick
Thanks shayne caesar The candles i ended up using were shorter and fitted the hole really well. Your tip for adding extra wax around the end will help some viewers though so thanks for sharing :)

Marry Shield Cordova I don’t remember the exact size but it you do a few sizes then print on normal paper you will see what size is best.

Ruby Velasco In theory both should work but I can’t confirm as I only have inkjet. There will be other videos on TH-cam that you may be able to search and ask them?
does anyone know if this works with colored candles? do i need to use colored tissue paper?

I love this idea and have a family member who is getting married this year. I was just wondering about how people know how to find their table. Do they find their name on a regular place card when they get to the banquet hall and when they find their table, their personalized candle is there waiting for them?

Minette Meneses yes, the colour of the wax will coat the paper. The only issue is that you will need to make sure your text is thicker and bigger so you can read it. The darker the wax the harder it will be to see the text. Maybe do some tests before buying all your supplies. Best of luck to you.

hi i like your video soo much and have tried this too but im wondering is it normal to have wrinkled tissue paper after? it was perfect after i heat it & then after a while as i leave it...the tissue paper wrinkled...
xxxemac4xxx I'm not sure why that happened. I've got candles from 3 years ago and they haven't wrinkled. Maybe stretch the tissue paper more when you heat the wax? Or try a different tissue paper?

i am wondering... will the tissue paper fade into a colored candle so you don't see it.... have you by chance tried it like that?... and GORGEOUS candles too :D
You most definitely can use this method using a colored candle, because the tissue paper is white the colour of the wax will slightly colour it but a dark candle will make the black text hard to read.

I asked about baking paper most use waxed paper but can never find that
I used tissue paper for the transfer & the wax paper goes around the candle to hold the tissue paper down while you heat the image.

Thanks for your comment Renu! I'm not sure what tissue paper is sold in India but in Australia we use it to fill present boxes or bags for gift giving and for arts and craft. It is similar to tissues you use to flow your nose but a bit harder and not as soft. I hope this helps.

great idea - have you tried if there are issues with the tissue paper and the flame setting it on fire?
+songofsunrise Yes I have. The candle burns like normal, once the tissue paper shows aprox 2cm the top will catch on fire slightly but only for a couple seconds before being extinguished when the flame hits the candle wax again. Larger (thicker) candles shouldn't be a problem until the tissue paper is extremely long in which case you should fold it down or cut it off.
Tissue paper is like baking paper?
No, tissues paper is what you use for wrapping presents or putting into present bags/boxes. Baking paper is slightly more robust and used for baking.
Can I use japanese paper instead of tissue paper?
Sarah Pacua I’m not familiar with Japanese paper but I would suggest giving it a go. Let me know if it works.
