Just one of the many things I love about Split Enz is that every band member is so animated and a joy to watch and be entertained. I also love their humor ❤❤❤
A-MAZ-ING. I am not sure we knew back the 70s what a strange and beautiful jewel we were watching. They became more 'commercial' for sure, and still wrote great songs, and managed to keep a good amount of crackpot - but not as much crackpot as show here. I just love this really weird stuff.
Tim's writing at that time was so good it was close to showing off - his hold on the English language was breathtaking. No one was writing on the same level as him! Nobody mentions it, but how good was crowther drumming
BEST BAND EVAH..!!!! First time I saw you guys was at the Hard Rock Cafe in Spring St Melbourne 1974?? I was 14..... But we all wore so much blue eye shadow that we looked older.. haha Plus the fact that no one gave a shit
They’ve toured the US quite a few times between 1977 and 1982.. you guys never “got” them.. especially in the early days. There would be more people on stage than in the audience some nights and that’s where the incident happened which led Phil to leave the band in Atlanta..
@@playitstrange129 I was deployed in Beirut in '82.. so they were here and I wasnt... But I had 2 of their Cassettes (Waiata and Time and Tide) with me at the time.
I’m not sure how or why Second Thoughts get such a bad review from the band and some fans. Titus, Matinee Idyll, Late Last Night, Lovey Dovey, Time for a Change, ffs... Sweet Dreams... I mean, Jesus, what do you want?! With the Enz you can’t miss!
I suppose it's the fact that a few of the band members (and I guess some of the fans) didn't want to re-record some of the tracks from Mental Notes (which as you know, was only released in Aus and NZ) might be relevant. Regardless, it's a great album. They both are.
I beg to differ. It's very poetic and strange. Like fine abstract art. Some people don't have the attention span to properly follow prog rock however, and to them I feel sorry for.
This is the proper Split Enz
We hope Mr Judd is doing well. That most recent album Planet Sublime is really jolly nice I must say.
Just one of the many things I love about Split Enz is that every band member is so animated and a joy to watch and be entertained. I also love their humor ❤❤❤
In the insanity of everything that’s going on; don’t forget how great these lyrics are!
Lovey Dovey
Split Enz
My house is sliding into the sea
Skies are grey, since you've been away
The chickens aren't laying eggs no more
It can only mean you left me for sure
But I still think of you when I'm alone
How can I ever repay you for what you do to me
I still think of you when I'm alone
How can I ever repay you for what you do to me
La do dah la do dah dah la do dah
My trees are all turning brown
The sun won't shine, now you're no longer mine
The rats are crawlin' up me back
It can only mean you're never coming back
But I still, think of you when I'm alone
Oh how could I ever repay you for what you do to me
And I still, think of you when I'm alone
Oh how could I ever repay you for what you do to me
La do dah la do dah dah la do dah
Wooh!
My bed is leaning to one side
You know I can't sleep now that I've lost my pride
The flies are swarming in like bees
I even have to share my clothes with fleas
But I still, yeah think of you when, I'm alone
How can I ever repay you for what you do to me
And I still, yeah think of you when, I'm alone
How can I ever repay you for what you do to me
Come on!

What a gem. I keep replaying this
Love the Enz! Great songwriting, great singing - but 100% powered by Eddie Rayner! Go Eddie!
Yep . Eddie is the dude.

Emlyn was/is and amazing drummer. So much feel and musicality. Every player in this band was simply brilliant.
@@trship6274 He unsuccessfully tried out for Genesis after his dismissal from the Enz.
@@markbrooks4471 I always just thought he wanted the quiet life. So why did he leave then? Shame really - he's just so brilliant.
@@markbrooks4471 I did not know that. Great little factoid!
And I'm a huge fan of both so can't believe I never heard that before. Cheers!
Cardiacs made me do it. My new best band.
those first 5 albums are not commercial but they are interesting.
Whenever I feel sad I just think of those rats bobbing around on Tim's back and I'm cured.

80s started early for these guys
Cardiacs sent me here :)
Just Brilliant!!! Tah Muchly.
Outstanding.
I had no idea that early Split Enz were so fucking weird.
they started wierd brother! the first
Neil Finn destroyed Split Enz
@@nicholasspurling8719 I think you're right.
They were more progressive than anything at the time seems like. Wild!!!
Pure genius 😊
Bloody brilliant!
It's hard to believe those haircuts ever went out of style.
Beyond superb....
Influence on Cardiacs "Tarred and Feathered" video, maybe?
They influenced so much about Cardiacs
It be nice if the band toured the USA so us fans waiting to see them for almost 40 years could see them live in concert... ~hint hint~........
I thought they did tour the US a few times when they were still together. You know they split up in '92, except for a handful of reunions?
@@newsles2 they split up in ‘85

Oh yes.
Now, I know where Paul Reubens got his "Pee Wee" dance inspiration from. He owes royalties to Tim and Noel!
Fairly sure that is Neil in the yellow outfit..?
nope, neil hadn't joined the band yet.
Mike Chunn the bass player
