Another type of cannon rush is when P builds a pylon and cannon in the low ground and they will build a pylon next to your depot for vision.. Another is In TvZ when Z go for a 3rd hatch but goes for ling roach ravager push. They always have so much it's so hard to hold.
If you see them building a pylon in your wall with cannons on low ground you can just wall in, build a bunker (hugging the barracks) and make marines, that's it. You kill the pylon = you kill the rush. In the meantime you can also send an scv across the map and proxy a factory outside of his base, then make one hellion and kill all of his probes. 3 base roach all-in is hard to scout but you have to check if he's making drones at the 3rd. So try to not lose your reaper.

I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only one that stressess about how the oponent replies to your GLHF.
It's a metagame scout. Usually when I get an "u2" it tells me that the oponnent is lazy and about 95% of the times I've received 1 base all ins after that.
I'd be more suspicious if he said "hey, how is your day going?"

Thank you so much for making this video! Due to what you taught, as a new player, it's now extremely rare for me to lose against a cannon rush. It's funny to me how you said "I want all of them [Protoss players] to complain about Terran" because I have a few games where my opponent complained in the chat about Terran being OP after I countered their cannon rush. I'm not "high-level" or anything, but learning how to beat cheese builds like this one makes the game so much more fun for a casual player like myself. Have a great day!

Awesome video! Would be really helpful if you could explain a bit about how to identify whether protoss is doing something (i.e. dark templar) off of two bases? It seems very difficult to get a scouting unit in, or to figure it out if something has been proxied at that stage.

another tip against cannon rush is that, cannon rushing terran is actually pretty difficult, so theres 2 options, the protoss is atleast two leagues above you in which case gg or they dont even know cannon rushing terran is hard so you already won so chill and wait for them to make a mistake xd

When I play TvP _ I start 1st gas after supply depot then rax then gas 2 then directly factory_ teclab rax and switch. your tank will be up 15 sec after cannon rush cannons start shooting your wall. - mass zealot rush will be crushed aswell, if there is void rays mass mine 9-12. dig under them. this avoids all cheeses i went through vs P

This was great, suffered a cannon rush today....was pain, I did pull all the boys but it didn't work. I didnt update my settings to be able to click on enemy buildings and see what they were and the cannons killed all my SCVS since I didn't respond properly -.- Only started the ladder today aha
And to add to the cheese guide. I would love to see the defence of a fast zealot denying a natural from a FE and stalkers following up. In here, you assume you can hold the natural but sometimes they go all-in and you can't reliable defend it .What to do in those situations? you cancel the natural and then build another one on top of the ramp? you spam rax and build marines to defend the inc cheese? I am always lost with those games...
I also would love to learn how to defend a 1 base ravager rush. I think if you FE you are dead, right?
I am only a diamond scrub so don't take my assumptions too seriously.
Actually these games are against the 'allin' proxy gate version, if you scout early enough and react properly you will be able to defend the natural ( sometimes with some scv losses )
And 1base ravager allin is holdable with a fast expansion, you just have to react after you scout it ( usually involves cancelling the cc if its an early version )
@@uThermal Oh, nice. So it's a matter of sending early enough your scv and read the enemies build and reacting accordingly. I thought with some cheeses you just can't hold the natural.

@Nicolas Vasquez Best thing you can do is find a good timing build for each matchup and practice against AI until you can reliably perform it down to the second. And I mean literally to the second. 10-20s makes a HUGEEE difference, that can be 8 more zealots for protoss, the difference between having a colossus or not, the difference between having or not having charge, etc.
If you get a good build and perform it extremely well, you'll be at an astronomical advantage against any player below masters. Cannot stress enough how important it is to have a good build and perform it well.
Don't try to learn it on the ladder - you won't learn effectively. Just do it over and over and over against easy AI and get it drilled into your head, by actively and consciously trying to memorize it as you perform it.
Start with just 1 build and do literally nothing but that build against protoss. It can also be incredibly helpful to download the replay from spawningtool if you're getting your builds from there, and study the replay of your build as performed by a pro. Study the building placements, scout timings, unit movement patterns, hotkeys, supply depot timings/ arrangement, rally locations, micro, etc. Those things can end up making a really big difference! You're not going to have the micro of Maru but I can tell you that you personally looking at a replay and studying it is way more helpful than watching someone on youtube do it.
This sounds like a lot but it's actually not! The most important thing is nailing that build order. Preferably a tight timing attack with +1 or +2 for example, though I'd avoid relying on cheese or all ins.

Whats the response to a proxy stargate? Last night on the ladder. I ran into 2 seperate proxy stargate, void rays. With batteries an cannons in my 3rd. In front of my main. And it was just ggs. I had units. But hes just in full control once hes all setup. Im sure there are many doods who kno exactly what i should do against this

Huge tips, thanks man! I hope they still apply here in 2021 but Im struggling to find any terran balance changes. I know void ray timer was buffed, but I dont think that changes the strat against the proxy right?

That was a really lousy cannon rush though, most get the pylon on the low ground make one cannon in range of the high ground then move up after the cannon can cover the probe and the new high ground cannons. Done right, there really is no over taking it when there aren't ranged units up yet..
This IMO is pretty easy to hold as Terran too. Wall off the main, train marines, and put them on hold position outside of the range of the cannon so the cannon can't shoot them, get a bunker and fill it with said marines, and build a factory to eventually get a tank. The Protoss needs to use the probe to get high ground vision so the marines deny the Protoss that high ground vision for the cannons. Once the bunker and tank are up, Protoss needs air units or Dark Templar to break it. Because of that, scout to check for either DTs or aircraft and respond accordingly.
what do you think of the 2raxs into 3rd proxy rax that builds concussive shell marauders build?

he got a bit lucky because his opponent just moved out with his early gate units when the attack hit. they met slightly in front of protoss exe... like maybe 2 screens away - the gate units had no chance of escaping against concussive shell and it was a very quick GG
but i was thinking... marauder is sooo strong against gate units. you should be able to at least deny mining from the exe, maybe even get the nexus. getting up the main ramp could turn out 2b tricky, if protoss went for a defensive sentry.
iirc, the first atk wave hits with 5 marines from the 2rax and a marauder from the proxy rax... + walk distance ;D

Cannon rushers are my bane. I usually hold it off but usually loose so much scvs in the process that followup with void rays kills me. My scvs were usually going for pylons not cannons itself. They are placing 3-4 cannons at the same time, so no sure how I could kill all of them with scvs.
Uthermal. How do you hold a cannon rusher who one bases into tempests. I feel like I can't do much with that as we don't have that two base eco to make mass cyclones?

Thx for the amazing video! Question, you said 1 scv on the probes, but then you put 2 on the probes, 'cause "is getting more serious". What do you mean? Is it just to kill it faster? Don't you fall behind on economy? Does that even matter?
Another thing, what if you didn't scout the pylon go down, and scout until cannons are more than half way there? That happened to me, and at that point I knew I couldn't send scvs, so I tried my best and died lol. I can send you the replay because I think it represents very well what happens when you couldn't scout in time.
I can't speak for uthermal, but I can think of a reason you might want 2 scvs on each probe. If the protoss micros hardcore he can attack your chasing scv down to 10 hp with his probe then wait until we regens 11 shields, and then finish off your scv if you're not watching. If you have 2 scvs chasing it doesn't work.
As for the 2nd point. Did he make pylons inside your main or in your natural? If it's inside your main, you should see the probe run up the ramp, if the probe disappears into the fog at the side of your main after that, your cannon rush senses should start tingling. If instead it's in the natural you can go make a tank, start cc on the highground and push into the natural later.
Oh hai Marc! What would be your response to proxy cannons/gates in your natural, transition into tempest and mass battery.
I just dont seem to be able to beat it. Even when going double favtory cyclone, theres just not enough room unless I move down ramp into cannons.
In this case you would make some bunkers up your ramp and go for reactor vikings ( dont make this reactor in the wall ), you can send 1 or 2 vikings to counter attack and be annoying until you have enough to destroy the tempest

Bunker sounds useless against cannons. Static against static. If the cannon is built first, then how can you build the bunker in range ?
@@ba5hr You don't really have to kill all their cannons, just to protect your mining and base. You could repair to buy you enough time to get cyclones. In maps where cannons on the low ground can't reach ur workers this is pretty safe. And also good against follow up voids. But yeah on certain maps like deathaura it may not work well because cannons could be built very close.

uthermal I am only a gold terran but this guide was so helpful it puts me off playing because I just don't know how to beat these cheeses even when they are performed at gold level but this helps !

Assuming the Protoss doesnt attack right away (proxy gateway), do you always swap the factory to the tech lab after 3 marauders?
what happens if the cannon rusher actually hides his cannons and you don't see it until the cannon builds. There are some maps where you can place pylons not in the terrans main base but the edge of it and the pylon range is able to go to the main. I saw the pylon in my main base but there were cannons behind the edge firing if my scvs attack the pylon in the main what do I do then?
