I love the Ravens, and that is why. They were always a consistent franchise that made meaningful choices to keep the team competitive.

When eight year old Dan Snyder was the manager of his neighborhood lemonade stand, he made his customers pay an additional 40% convenience fee for each beverage, fired both of his sisters without pay, and sued a friend's mother for $2 million after she described his lemonade as "like drinking watered-down urine."
Another reason the lemon aid stand got in trouble with the IRS and went bankrupt.

I still say Washington should have become the Red Wolves; the only official dog team in the NFL, and they'd only have to change *one* word in their fight song. But no, Dan Snyder is so incompetent he couldn't even manage that.
What would have happened is that Red Wolves would have been too close to the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and Dan Snyder would have a beef with the owner of the T-Wolves over the new team name.
a little fun fact, when the ravens got bought by Steve Bisciotti, Snyder did everything he could to make it so the Ravens wouldnt have a bigger market, including not getting upgrades for M & T Bank from the old stadium

Snyder only saw the Redskins/Commanders as an expensive toy. All of his decisions made no sense, and he would throw piles of money at washed up retread free agents that were not even at their top ability anymore and that affects the salary cap and then the rest of the team is mediocre and just can't go anywhere and with an owner like Snyder, Washington never went anywhere and with the culture that the owners had in place, nobody was going to be going to an Super Bowls.

@@grinningchicken That is a lot what he was doing, parts of my family are Washington fans and I always told them they would never get anywhere unless Snyder leaves, and whenever he sold the team would feel like getting the number one draft pick.
I don't think he saw the team as a toy. I think he suffers from something that quite a few notable wealthy individuals suffer from: thin skin. He couldn't hire someone to make decisions for him, because he had to be the smartest in the room. He couldn't handle criticism, so he tried to make the boogieman go away by banning certain signs. Add that to his businessman mentality of putting profits over all else, and we got the messiest ownership in recent memory.

I remember hearing that there was a guy who was buying the trademark to a bunch of different team names. Not because he wanted to sell them, but because he really hated Dan Snyder and wanted to make his life harder.
Five, this is my first video of yours. I came in from Clickbait as a Washington fan and I knew you were the right person to make this video. You missed the whole "cut down protected forest AND (allegedly) got the guy who called him out on it fired" bit, but yeah, the nightmare that has been my adult life as a Washington fan can now begin a new chapter. I'm not hoping for a turnaround or anything like that, hope left me a long time ago; I'm just excited for it to be different.
The signing of Jeff George in 2000 was honestly the start of it. Synder was never in on Brad Johnson despite the season he just had, and throughout 2000 Snyder was pounding the table for George to start. He fell in love with the arm. George did start a couple games in 2000 when Johnson got hurt. Well after 2000, Johnson was let go and George was handed the keys. George lasted just two games into 2001 before not only losing his starting job, but being outright cut. Johnson went to the Bucs, and won a Superbowl with them in 2002.
And the Bruce Smith signing from a production standpoint wasn't that bad. The money he got was just absurd. He played in DC at the ages of 37, 38, 39, and 40. And he had a total of 29.5 sacks during that period. At that age, that's honestly impressive.
Agree on Smith. If the team wasn’t a complete cluster, theoretically you’re paying half for his production and half for his experience/leadership. And as you said, his production wasn’t bad at all. The team was just too chaotic for him to have any true impact, statistical or not.

Yeah, as great an owner as JKC may've been, I feel like he doesn't get enough blame for this (not to mention, it was JKC who built FedEx Field).

Small mistake: Barry Sanders' final game was not the Lions' playoff loss to the Redskins. His last season was 1998, his final game was against the Ravens on Dec 27th 1998.

I grew up in Baltimore. I was 5 years old when the Colts left. Too young to care, but my parents were devastated. Once I was old enough to like the NFL, the Redskins were my hometown team. I was fortunate to root for some great teams like the Doug Williams & Mark Rypien led championships. I was a freshman down in College Park when the Ravens came to town. My family all jumped on the Ravens and I was the lone Skins fan. I lasted 3 more seasons with the Skins until I finally decided to join my family and switch allegiance to my real hometown team. Talk about perfect timing. Snyder bought the team the next year and I missed out on the 20+ years of misery he's given to one of the best fanbases in sports. My 2nd season rooting for the Ravens was the immortal 2000 Super Bowl season led by my man Ray Lewis. So yeah, I made the right choice

Let's not remember how under his watch, their cheerleaders were sent to Costa Rica to a photoshoot, and then not only got forced into topless photos, but also forced into being escorts for the Washington sponsors. This is why I lost any and all respect for Dan Snyder and the Commies. As a Cowboys fan, I'd even cheer for the Eagles and the Giants if they play against that team.

As an adult those females made choices they may not have been comfortable with but they didn’t say no to the money and perks at the time. Not like they were children being abused they were grown ass women going to work. If work culture is that toxic they should have made the tough decision to quit. My sympathy for those girls isn’t as high as others might be. And before anyone says well people need a job and shouldn’t have to deal with that. True but there’s other jobs out there they decided the perks were worth it and only decided to complain once he had a litany of other complaints against him.

They weren’t complaining when getting the all inclusive trips to Costa Rica huge hush hush salaries etc. I’m not condoning abusing women but let’s not kid ourselves that some women really do use there bodies to hustle. The ironic thing was, the defensive players they signed in 2000 helped the defense go from one of the worst defenses in the league in 99 to a borderline top 5 defense the next season. The downfall of that team was the offense had a step back with Johnson struggling/Jeff George and the kicking game being an absolute mess and cost them 3 games alone.

As a DMV resident, it was tough. I had a football team that I couldn’t root for because their success was that bastards success. Him being gone is great. I’d prefer he didn’t get so much money for running the team into the ground, but he’s gone and good riddance
Been a Redskins/Football Team/Commanders fan since I was 9 years old. 29 years of being fan. 24 of those years with Snyder as owner. IF this franchise ever becomes great once again, no one ever better call me (and every other suffering man, woman and child) a bandwagon fan after suffering through the Snyder era.
So it will go from a "damn good culture" to "trust the process"
As a Commanders fan, I was done with Snyder YEARS ago. From the Deion signing, to Haynesworth, to Jim Zorn, it has been really hard to cheer for my team. Hell, the only reason that they went with Commanders is because they wouldn't have to TOTALLY throw away the stuff from the "Football Team" era instead of giving the fans what they wanted with Red Wolves or Hogs. Major Tuddy is a poor attempt at reconciliation, but I'll give him time to grow on me. I'm a jaded fan, but I'll always have hope based on what we do in the player department and actually trying to keep the players that we do draft.
The absolute worst thing he ever did as an owner was taking RG3's side in the feud with Mike Shanahan. Leading to Mike and Kyle Shanahan being fired and opting to keep a crippled QB over a HOF coach. Then letting all their understudy's leave shortly thereafter. Sean McVay, Kevin O'Connell, Mike Lafleur and Mike McDaniel were all on that coaching staff with the Shanahan's. Every one of them left and the team decided to keep Jay Gruden as the HC. Fun fact, Mike Shanahan actually wanted to draft Russell Wilson in 2012, not RG3 or Cousins. Imagine a world where the Shanahan's were able to draft Russ. That team would have won several playoff games. Being a Redskins/WFT/Commie fan has been nothing but misery and agony for 30 years, but that decision cemented them as worst franchise in the NFL the last decade. Maybe one day Commie fans will be proud of this team again, but I'm not optimistic.
Snyder single-handedly ruined RG3 by pampering him. Remember how much we hailed RG3 as a mature and humble young man when he came out of Baylor? Well, when the owner coddles a young player, that player can easily develop a superiority complex around everyone else, including his coaches. No, the injury certainly didn't help RG3's career, but let's not ignore the impact Snyder's coddling had either.

8:58 minor correction: the NFL also took away the Redskins logo rights from Snyder, meaning that anyone could legally make merchandise or use the logo in anyway they want. Along with a really funny South Park episode, this meant that Snyder would lose millions in merchandise sales if he didn’t change the team name/logo. The NFL has as much of a hand as the advertisers wanting to pull out in why Snyder was forced to change the name (reluctantly).

Bad ownership is one of the most depressing things in sports, because you can't fire an owner, so the fans are just stuck waiting hopelessly.

There was a 2000 game vs. Baltimore, that isn't brought up, even though it should be. Snyder made the ravens pay for parking, which only a cartoon villan would do. He made the PA announcer shout to a bunch of drunk fans, "Ravens fans suck!" He also had the band in the stadium play music while the ravens were executing plays, which is illegal. The skins won 10-3 over the eventual world champs, but Snyder lost all respect off the field by everyone

Excellent video, but I’ve got one slight correction that needs to be made: Washington did defeat Detroit in the ‘99 NFL Playoffs. BUT - Barry Sanders actually retired at the end of the ‘98 NFL season. So Barry did NOT play in Detroit’s playoff loss to Washington.

The 99 wild-card game wasn't Barry's last. Barry Sanders retired after the 1998 season. The Lions did not make the playoffs that year.

As a lifelong skins fan mannnnn you have no idea how happy we are he’s gone. I mean my grandpa who was born in the 30s is a fan, my dad and I are fans. We are from that area and they were once the gold standard of the nfl, when he took over they were having some down years but he REALLY ran us into the ground. And just like you described in this video, it was ALWAYS drama and controversy within the organization. He ruined sooooo much about this team, he’s been the worst owner in all of sports.

I put Dan Snyder alongside Bob Irsay (who moved the beloved Colts to Indianapolis in the middle of the night) and Art Modell (who botched an attempt to move the Browns to Baltimore ... and also fired the team's namesake and founder Paul Brown, who went and founded their arch-rival the Bengals in response).

Me - Native American - the internal and cathartic satisfaction i get from watching this soulless franchise crumble is unbound.
My cousins are full blood Cherokee and they always considered the name endearing. They were the ones who informed me that the logo was actually a portrait of Chief Two Guns White Calf. I understood the name being polarizing, despite it's origins being celebratory of the North Eastern Native Americans, but I never quite understood why the logo needed to be changed. My best guess is most people just don't do any research and want something to be upset about. Make enough noise and people will eventually cave.
and yet people always be bashing nfl players, mainly black players, about shit they done in the past. Yet when I tell them to talk about the owners, like Kraft and Snyder, crickets.

Edit: You didn't touch on it, but folks, believe me when I tell you that Mike Shanahan threw a limping rookie quarterback to the wolves. The footage is just sad, and then RG3's knee literally buckles after he tried to bend down and pick up a botched snap from the center.
