- If you are not comfortable with a Dremel, please practice using one BEFORE attempting this! This is for educational purposes only, and for experienced viewers with hand tool knowledge/skill. I am NOT responsible for any injuries you may give yourself if you are not ready and skilled as seen in this video!
I find that people who use their gear have no problem modifying it to meet their needs and make it their own. You found a need for a sharpening choil while others reshape a finger choil, add gimping, reshape handles, change blade grinds/angles, or whatever else catches their eye. It is no longer a collector but it is definitely one of a kind yours that anyone who knows you will recognize the tool even without any initials gouged in. Your friends and relatives will explain it to others after you have long gone. “She used her shit!”
Haha yes!!! Some people hate sharpening choils, I love them! All depends on the person! Thanks so much for watching!!!
Never considered doing this. Just assumed that was the end of the cutting blade. Nice. You make it look so easy!!!!
BILL!!!! You’re alive!😂❤this makes it way easier to access and utilize the entire cutting edge. I do it on nearly every knife! So happy to hear from you!🥰
It's a chore to add a choil. Dremels in the wrong hands makes repair shops happy.
Every on that I have shown my Mink to has really liked it. Hope you had a fun weekend Erica.
It’s been very rainy but relaxing!!!!! How is yours!?
ANY tool in the hands of some people make repair shops happy.
I love dremels ! Lucky i could close my eyes for the sparks in this video 😅
Hehe!!! Thanks for stopping in!
This is my favorite I do with my knives..I learned this from you on one of your older videos👊
Awh love hearing that brother!!
If you already have a Dremel you can often find separate accessory tools, like the cut-off wheel and replacement blades, available at hardware, woodworking, or hobby stores. This is a good way to personalize a knife or make it more useful. Great job, Erica.
Absolutely you can! Cheers, thanks for watching! 😊
Great video sharpening choil 101 eazy peazy 👍
Thanks pal!
I use a Dremel to make mine too👍Have a great Saturday, E!🤟
It’s so helpful! Enjoy your Saturday David!🥰
Love it!! I added a choil onto a couple of my knives and it’s so much better!😊
Definitely easier to sharpen the bevel fully and correctly!
I have done the same thing many times and have showed the process in a few videos. It really is super easy to do. One tip is switch hands. Hold the Dremel in the left hand and the knife in the right. This way the sparks go down when you grind rather than up towards your face and eyes.
I should practice that!
Cool Video, I have been thinking of putting a choir in my PM2. I may give it a try!
It’s very easy and really helps with sharpening. Give it a go!
Neat! I create sharpening choils with a DMT round, conical file. More important - even when a blade has a choil, the first thing I look at is the plunge grind and often enlarge the choil to clear it from the plunge grind! Keep rockin'!
Awesome my friend!
i dont usually like sharpening choils, but that small one that you just did looks nice! you can reshape those cut off wheels with a diamond stone if you want more detail.
Thanks Joe! I try to keep them tiny so I can have a sharpening advantage, but it doesn’t affect cutting at all. You can barely see the lil guy! Hope you’re having a great weekend 🥰
Well, that was a lot easier than I expected.
Right?!😂
Good stuff Erica! I need to get the Dremel out now! Haha!👊🤣
Hey thanks brother!!!
Thanks E
Love you to pieces 😻
Love you mostest T!!!
I use a small diamond round file for this, as it gives you very good control and gets the job done cleanly and relatively quickly.
Thanks for sharing and watching!
Very nice instructional vid. Thanks
Thanks for checking it out!!!
The touch of a surgeon
Bahahaha no one would want me to be their surgeon trust me!😂❤
Thanks for showing- Im afraid to try that stuff
It is super easy, but I think practicing on other things first is a must!
Nice !!!
Thanks man!
Great video E!!
Thanks Richter!
Super useful video! Any tips for enlarging the choil on the Benchmade proper to actually be able to hold the blade steady?
Thanks so much for watching! And I’m not entirely sure what you mean. I’m sorry!
Nice👍👍👍👍. Take care.🇺🇲🔪🌲🔥
Thanks for watching J! Take care my brother
Nooooooooo...... Now it will hang up on cutting
Wrong. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Voila
Thanks for watching!
Erica please please please clamp the knife in a vice and have both hands on the dremel - I would hate to see you or anyone else cut their finger with the cutting wheel 😝
I don’t have a vice. I have done this probably 100 times haha never had an issue and if I do- that’s on me!🥰🤣Thanks so much for watching!
I don’t understand the point of this. I have a pm2 I’ve had and carried for a decade, I’ve sharpened it probably hundreds of times and I’ve never had any issues at the base of the knife and the blade has maintained a consistent shape. I’ve had knives with choils from the factory and I’ve found these blades have a tendency to get hung up on material when cutting.
If you listen to the video with the volume on, you may understand. Have a wonderful day, and thanks for watching&commenting!
@@ericasedcI heard you say it’s because it’s supposedly difficult to sharpen that area, did I hear wrong?
In my experience my knives have maintained a consistent shape over decades of use without a choil. If it was the case that I couldn’t reach that area then there would be an arch at the base of the cutting edge where steel has been removed to a lesser degree over time. I haven’t experienced that, but I might have a different sharpening technique than you and your mileage may vary.
I didn’t intent for my comment to sound critical.
@@landocalrissian5180 thanks so much for watching and commenting! I appreciate it!😁
@@spacewaffles1151 I’m just not sure what to say. Having full access to the edge bevel makes it easier to sharpen. That’s why sharpening choils are added to a lot of knives now. I’m not really sure how to elaborate any further- hence why the video’s only 5 minutes long. Have a nice day!
@@ericasedc Yeah that’s cool, whatever floats your boat. I’m sure if people didn’t like them they wouldn’t put them on knives.
I’m just like, “if you’re worried that 1mm being dull, guess what’s more dull? A choil.” lol
Dig your videos 😉
Righty tighty…
Thanks for watching!
