I am an idiot- Slick is a 2024 addition to the character line up. I got my wires crossed because in my head I remembered a yellow freight train- Guys I was picturing the yellow Hip Hopper costume... Slick is new so please ignore this mistake lol
Hey, many thanks fo the review. Just a little note that people from outside of the UK don't necessarily understand what this 'health & safety' is that you mention. Is it some sort of regulation? Or an authority?
@@vulc1 It i smy understanding that for effects etc. to be included in a show they must bedeemed safe- its why shows to fight calls and things before shows to maintain high levels of safety. Roller skating is quite dangerous by theatre standards and there were many injuries in the original London production. So whilst I can't quote any direct legislation or body of authority, it is a safe assumption to assume the limitations placed on skating and tricks is a result of health and safety measures
Loved this review, just booked tickets to see it in March-used the theatre vouchers me and my gf had for ages!
Made me laugh when your cat mucked up what you wanted to do. Talking of Cats have you seen that classic musical live on stage??? 🐈🐱
Starlight Express is the musical I have seen the most times. I have seen it 24 times in total- first as a little kid when I was 5 in Summer of 1986 and begged my mum/dad to take when seeing the adverts for it on TV, posters in the high street, buses/train stations, reading reviews for it on Teletext/Magazines etc
Saw it 11 times in London, once on Broadway/once in Vegas, 6 times in Germany where it still play as you prob know. 4 times on UK Tour, and once in Norway!
Yea the Bill Kenwright Tours were ok with half set size + 3D glasses, but this is how it should be done esp UK Tour when they did it in Arenas/Stadiums like: Milton Keynes Bowl which I saw in 2004!
Shame it isn't as big as the one in London used to be or the one that still plays in Germany. Whereabouts in UK you from-I'm in Kent 😎
When it was announced with Andrew and Arlene etc. They said it would be like the German production yet when I then heard/read a few months before it opened in June of last year said the iconic rotating bridge wouldn't be there and couple of songs being replaced etc 🤷🏻♂
Looking forward to it though!
Fellow freight is great girly we love the freight!!!!!! Gravel has a right to travel you know
Love your review!! I saw it last week on a Sunday matinee and honestly have not been able to get this show out of my head ever since - me and my gf are booking tickets to go back and see it again.
@@Nellanor Yes! A fellow freight fan!!!!
I don't know why but your review kinda makes me wish i didn't have to wait until february 2025 to see it ! I saw it more than 20 Years ago (don't remember much of it to be honnest, except that i loved it back then). This time I'm taking my family and I can't wait to see their thoughts of it!
You mentionned the changes made for this productions, isn't Control being seen on stage one of them too? What were your thoughts on that? I'm really curious to see this considering I'm used to him being a voice only....
Anyways, thank you for your review! Really hyped to see it, hopefully my feelings will be the same as back then!! (fingers crossed)
@mrbrightside2 yay I'm glad my review made you want to see it even more! You're totally right about control now being an on stage presence not just a voice 😅
I just didn't go into depth about the changes as i have another video where I discuss most of them!
Having control as a child in the show is beautiful and brings a tear to your eyes
@@keithpain Awesome ! Nice to know, thanks! Even more looking forward to the show now :)
as a starlight express fan and seeing this new production many times (can see all megamixes on my YT) they have imo changed much of the show but every change has a good meaning for it imo.
I'm going to see it on 14th September! Can't wait!!
Ah! That's so exciting! I hope you have so much fun
What are you thoughts and opinions about the production after seeing it, Liam?
@@vulc1 I absolutely loved it! It was such a good show with amazing vocals and my jaw dropped with the Electra lighting!!!! It was amazing and would recommend people to go see it
An addition for the exclusive changes are the engines. In the past their were national Engines, now their are just colored engines
Yep, all covered in the Changes video I refer to and link 😊
Seen it 4 times , brilliant , Scott is amazing as Rusty too 🎉
I haven't had the chance to catch Scott as Rusty yet but I have seen several other alternates (Bethany Rose Lythgoe as Belle, Ashlyn Weeks as Pearl, Liliana as Dinah and I have also seen an alternate slick but cannot remember who it was!) They are all so fantastic and I love seeing fresh takes on the characters
I agree with you that the set and speeds and stunts etc are probably not as good as past productions but its still an excellent show with a great cast
Most people I've seen who like the costumes use the reasoning that it's a child's imagination, but I honestly don't get that. I was into trains when I was little too and I liked realism and, you know, trains looking like trains. (Less realism in the costumes is one of my biggest gripes with the 2018 changes in Germany too.) If you like the Wembley designs and how they look under stage lights, etc, that's valid in itself, and you all should enjoy them despite us in camp negative. But it seems to me that "it's a child's imagination” or “it's for children” is used as an excuse in many cases…
Interesting point about the freight characters though. Just from the fact that they carry coal and wood - used by steam engines - it doesn't make sense to sabotage Rusty. If they've kept the family bonds as well it makes even less sense…. Btw, who did you mean at 13:33 ? Slick is new to the Wembley production.
I totally get what you mean, some children imagen trains as just trains- but I like to think of it as like how you have some hot wheels that look like proper cars and others are neon and sparkly (the ones I preferred as a kid lol). I also realise that I had a total ADHD moment- it isn't slick I had in mind bc you are totally right Slick is new for 2024. I am thinking of the yellow hip hopper costume.. I must have gotten my wires crossed and assumed this was slick! Thank you so much for catching this :) . I'm also glad I'm not crazy in feeling like the freight have no motive
Wembley reminds me far too much of my local high school production I saw almost 20 years ago. Do I like it as much as what Bochum is doing? Definitely not but it is introducing my favorite musical to a new audience which I am so grateful for
