    While most would be content to watch a storm from the comfort of a warm home, Kim goes for an adventure. Your excitement and enjoyment of the cold and snow is just a pleasure to watch. Some really nice images, but for me the main take-away is that challenging conditions are when we feel alive - and invigorated. GREAT video Kim.

    Sitting here in warm Melbourne Kim I chuckled at the Aussie vandalism of the pristine snow on the wharf. Lightroom healing tool would have fixed that in a jiffy. I spent two and a half years based at Kinloss flying Shackletons in the '60s and loved Burghead and the other small (once) fishing villages along that coast. Was there in 2015 on a warm sunny day, so different to the conditions in your vlog. I remember that harbour in the '60s overflowing with fishing boats as were all the other harbours in those parts. Really sad to see them now but that's progress. Your vlog is such a happy contemporary 'travelogue' and brought back many memories. And I enjoyed your hand held images. As a traveller all my photography is hand held due to the inconvenience of a tripod and the limited time. Fortunately, modern cameras with OIS have greatly reduced the need for tripods other than when you might be using 10 stoppers etc. Keep up the good work, it is bringing happiness to a lot of people.

    Another amazing video Kim and lovely images. It looks like you had a most enjoyable day playing in the snow. It was good to see you taking shots handheld. If the light is good and have a fast enough shutter speed, we don't always have to use a tripod, sometimes it's nice to be free to roam with your camera. Thank you for taking us along with you.

    Hi Kim - loved this video. Brought back special memories for me, especially seeing the harbour. Did an Outward Bound course there in April 1972 (probably before you were born 😳🤔). Had a brilliant time. Unfortunately the OB school closed some years ago, or relocated. Living in Perth, Western Australia now & can only apologise for my adopted countrymen writing in the snow & spoiling your pic. They aren't used to snow here so they get a bit excited when they do see it. Keep them coming Kim. Cheers. Steve

    Hi Kim. Don't you just love it when the snow is on the ground! I think it makes for great photography. I've been out myself this morning (18th March) over the tops of Hebden Bridge and fired a few shots off and boy was it cold. The snow dropped overnight and in fact it's still snowing, it surely doesn't look like stopping anytime soon either. Lovely jubbly!!!

    Hi Kim... Sounds like you got your voice back! The video & images taken appear to show an active fishing village as well as a tight nit community... The Nor'easter that hit my area on Tuesday night into early Wed, (13th & 14th) appears to have crossed the Big Pond & slammed the UK...
    The weather appears to be a challenge to shoot in, nevertheless, you managed some good free hand compositions in spite of it all!
    Thanks much, very much enjoyed the adventure...

    Sad that your Sigma has issues , I hope it's not the f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD - that's supposed to be super sharp! I've thought about replacing my kit lens with it for the constant 2.8. Your images looked good on my display though.

    Funny you should say it feels like the Arctic, Kim. The Arctic has been brought to you thanks to the currently low Arctic sea ice this time of year. As a note it would be great if you could text-overlay the locations for us who don’t know the region or fully catch your accent via audio. Would love to visit these locations on my next visit to Scotland. Thx for your videos!

God love you, only you would go out into a life-threatening blizzard, crawl around in the snow and say, “Who cares about frostbite? Who cares if I lose a toe or two? Who cares about hypothermia? You’ve got to get out and embrace nature.” If you ever find a way to bottle your energy and sell it, put me down for a case.

    Very fun one! What's the audio setup you're using to protect from the wind in that? Just a small deadcat lapel mic? Is it actually good enough to block that much driving wind? I've always been frustrated by how any little gust with the standard pop head wipes everythingout. Ordered a few of the micro deadcats for my lapel mic, but wondering if you have any other tips.

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alex, recently I've just been using the in camera mic on my canon G7x Mark II. I ordered a deadcat to go over the mic. It doesn't work perfectly but it definitely makes a difference. I sometimes use my clip on rode mic and plug it into an audio recorder when the weather is really bad and again I have a deadcat for that. I'm still learning audio myself but with a few cheap accessories, it is doable. I sometimes use single band compression on premier pro over bad audio clips so the wind noise isn't as noticeable also. I hope that all makes sense.

    • @AlexBerger
      @AlexBerger 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome, thanks! Yeah, seems to make a world of difference. Even a mild wind on a normal pop filter completely destroys audio and the same for my built in body mics on my A7RII. Need to get one of those small adhesive ones or just go with the external. Very helpful!
