Robert, I found your channel just after moving from California (Northern / Central Coast) 7 years ago to Ohio/Kentucky. The California videos helped with my home sickness over the years. Now I use your videos to pick travel destinations for the family road trips. Thanks for the great content!

Being born and raised in San Diego, and now living in Colorado, I would like to thank you for the brief, but enjoyable, memory refresh....especially having often visited every place you went...except the border "wall", which wasn't there when I left California in 1977. My grandfather & grandmother are buried on the pacific ocean side area of Ft. Rosecrans. Oh yes, being as you like model railroads, the next time you visit, be sure include the San Diego Model Railroad Museum in Balboa Park. Of the 4 different layouts in there, I was able to run my trains on the N-scale layout. You WILL be surprised by the size of each of them. Be safe, have fun, & happy camping. v/r, TS - Denver

It is actually nothing like Miami IMO. Totally different vibe, climate and terrain. The Pacific Ocean is also very different to the Atlantic around Florida. Much colder, much more dramatic. San Diego is also much more Mexican and Asian influenced. Miami is more Cuban and South American. You're almost better off speaking Spanish than English in Miami.

It's been several years since I've been to San Diego with my family. The old town model wasn't there the last time I was there. We have stayed at the Koa in Chula vista several times it's a really nice campground. There is the San Deigo Model Railroad Musem located in Balboa Park. The Midway Musem is also worth checking out. If you want to visit Mexico take the Blue Line trolly to the border it a short walk. There used to be a trolly you could take from the Koa.

San Diego Zoo...we used to go there with family as kids. I find it too metropolitan too much, to many people, it was interesting to hear your views on the wall and the shabby park in California state park chain. I don't think you got to all those corner spots on this trip, but you did get to the great NW point too. This next group of videos I'm sure will make me a bit home sick. I moved from Central Coast CA, to Washington Olympic mountain area, then to up state New York. It just goes to show how different these USA states are. I love watching your videos. New music is enhancing to you beautiful photography. Thanks again!

Regarding your mention of our marine layers etc, a word of advice about Southern and Northern California weather. A comedian said that the hardest job in America is being a weatherman in San Diego. They pay you a bunch of money but you have to come up with a new and interesting way to say “the weather tomorrow will be just like it was today” Northern California from Monterey up get its influence not only from the ocean but the Central Valley. Dummies guide explanation is in the summer July-Aug the valley heats up and creates a pressure area. It makes the fog back up over the coast and it can get really foggy and cold. The pressure area starts dissipating in Sept. The fog moves through and the weather on the coast is SPECTACULAR Sept, Oct and most of November. Nobody out there either. Camp anywhere.

Robert, I just watched episode #16 - San Diego, Old Town and Cabrillo video. I love old town San Diego. I used to live in San Diego in the 70's when my husband was in the Navy. It's changed a lot since then, of course like every large city has. I told my kids I want my ashes thrown under the beautiful tree in Old Town. I've loved that tree for years. If you Stop the video at 14:17 that's the tree. 😊 I loved seeing it again in your video. From Portland, OR. 😎✌Next time you're in San Diego take the tour bus. You see so much for $40 bucks, and you have all day to sight see. You just catch another tour bus back. So worth it.

You're like my personal traveler, visiting places I probably wouldn't but would like to 'see' in some way. I now live about 3 miles SOUTH of The Wall, and again, have never visited that park (if you can call it that). I enjoy the videos for exercise, I may start them all over again :). If you make it to San Diego again, try to stop in to try one (or more) of the 400 kinds of tequila they have there...all displayed on the walls. Oh yeah, the food is pretty tasty too! And if you like model trains, there's a fantastic setup in Balboa Park.

Robert I use to live in California. One thing that started happening at parks was a lot of vandalism. I think when it happens over and over, the park owner stop maintaining it and let it go into disrepair. At the parks where I lived the bathrooms were just closed permanently. It was disappointing but understandable.

As far as I am concerned, the biggest part of Old Town San Diego is a big tourist trap.
I would like to advice if you visit San Diego for one day again, park it in the parking structure behind Petco Park. It will cost you only $2,- a day. From there it is a short walk to the Gaslamp Quarter. At the Gaslamp Quarter you have several points you can hop on a tourist trolley that brings you around all of San Diego, Coronado included. You can hop on and off where you want. If my memory serves me well, I had to reserve tickets for it through the internet. But I guess it is worth it. You can use it to orientate where you want to go after the round trip.
    Nice video once again.

I'm watching your series, and I'm enjoying it very much. I think the Fresnel Lens is usually pronounced "Fray-nel". I bought some the size of a credit card to help read tiny print.

Next time when you visit Southern California you should come down to Oxnard, California a beach town with historic buildings, museums and great beach side views and a lot of local breweries up in next door city Ventura btw i recommend the Transmisson or Poseidon Brewery. And make sure to stop by my families family owned restaurant Carnitas El Rey #2 on 3021 Saviers Road to try some of the best carnitas in California, we would love to attend you - Omar

Lovely video. I was very surprised, however, at the way that State Park looked, I would think that California would take more pride in how it looks. It was interesting seeing Mexico so close. I love the architecture in "Old San Diego" and the city itself seems to have lots to offer as do the surrounding areas. I am looking forward to the next video. I haven't been keeping up as much as I would like, my husband has been in the hospital so that has kept me away from home. He is home now though and we are once again loving your adventures.

Enjoyed this video very much, loved the train set up, love trains anyways. Question on the fence, I see it goes into the water but how far does it go, can people swim over, boat around it? I really do not know.

      @TravelingRobert  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Even if you could swim around I doubt you would get ver far. There are cameras and border patrol all over the place.

It's always memorable to go into an out-of-the-way restaurant & find the food exceeding your expectations.
I sincerely hope your trip up US395 will include visits to the Western Movie Museum in LONE PINE, CA. & the Alabama Hills. $5.00 admission price to the Museum where you'll easily spend 2+ hours. You might even want to visit the Hotel where John Wayne & other Hollywood Western movie Stars stayed during the filming of a Western movie. You'll find plenty of free readily accessible & HUGE RV parking area at THE mall/Grocery Stores in Bishop, CA. RVers are welcome to overnight @ the North end of town approx 1/2 mile past Denny's on the RIGHT side of the road.

The border park is mostly abandoned because people don't go there because it smells like shit. Tijuana is constantly having sewage spills in that area and San Diego is currently sewing them over it. I used to surf over there in IB until i got meningitis. Some of the best waves in San Diego and nobody can even go in the water.

Robert you should have driven up to where you can cross the border and then drive to the other side on Mexico side of where you were brother. You were only a few mile away.
