We have two pure bred males same age , 27 months, 1 German Shepherd and 1 Malinois. Both very smart but wired completely different. Both are very active and crazy in their own ways. Don't tell my Mal but I give the edge to the Shepherd for being better behaved and trainable. The Mal doesn't have a off switch. Even at 27 months he's still very mouthy. Nothing is safe.
Thank you…My pup is learning ”place“. Has been very good about it until the last 2 days…seemed the wheels were falling off! But she is teething, and she’s having pain w/her usual treats ..& even her kibble…So switched to soft treats and frozen knotted wash cloth, and she was happy to “place" again
This is the next command I'll be teaching mine. He tends to get really over-excited and start chomping on me and that has to stop very soon as he's getting bigger fast!
this is really great stuff; I love Robert Cabral's material as well: You guys demonstrate how to successfully have a Mali as a house pet. Not many people show this. Your and Robert's content also resonates as both of you have small packs that live in the home with them. I have 2 large dogs myself, and before even considering going further into contacting local Malinois breeders, I want to watch everything on your channel: The proof is in the pudding; if you didn't know what you're doing, you would be out there filming, showing that your dogs are well-trained. MUCH respect! Also great to see a fellow female dog handler; so happy I found your channel!
What great information, like that it showed crisis being a pup not listening straight off the bat, because I feel like some might have an idea that your dogs don’t make mistakes so great to see that yet the dog performed and how patient you were during this! Great stuff
thank you so much for these videos! so many other sources gatekeep basic information so those of us who are researching can't properly learn to care for them before we get them. your channel is amazing for anyone trying to learn about the breed before getting one.
Thanks for this video, Kay! Loved it. It's helpful to hear you explain the reasoning behind what you're doing and the foundation you worked on before trying this. Hopefully I can get my two young dogs to integrate into my house and turn their crazy down
How many mals do you own? Do you feel multiple females is doable? I've read that females can invite aggression issues among one another. We have dobermans, two 9 year old females, and a 17 month old female as well. Never any issue. Our youngest very much on par with moderate drive mal behavior...loads of energy, drive, curiosity, and affection. We are considering a malinois and have watched your videos, stsk9, and various others researching the breed. Long post made shorter.... we would like another female, but asking for insight. Also, if feel we should wait until our youngest is older before adding another member to the pack.... although thinking our older girls may be hopeful their youngest sibling would have a new playmate to match her energy! Im so grateful for your channel and the wonderful information and education you provide!
I started feeding her this and she loves it. BUT, I am about to start feeding her broiled chicken, half a bag of mixed vegetables, and rice in a food processor. Cheaper than dog food and healthier. I will leave updates on her progress on your channel ❤
New to your channel Kay and are new "Maligator" owners, familiar with the bread but now have a new 4 month old male Jax (his dad's name is Riot as well) Really enjoy your style, it aligns with our current knowledge and you have given us the motivation and confidence to continue on the right path with our training! New subscribers, Pete & Bonnie ..& Jax 🇨🇦
Maybe my question is out of line. I love your videos and I am too a malino. is puppy owner and what i was wondering is if you have three protection dogs and you lock them in kennels iin the garage . what good does that do when the bad men show up in the middle of the night. Seems like you should have all three sleeping in your bedroom and when bad things go on you will wake up to the carnage of what your dogs have done to protect you. I get that if you take your protection dog shopping, well that make sense, but I want a dog that watches my back and when I'm sleeping especially so... I guess, I would have one sleeping on my bed and out of that steel cage.
I didn't get my Mal till he was 9 months and had worn out his welcome at his 1st home so I been playing catch up. But he picks up good behavior from his brother Shepherd
Thx! This was a great video!!! I had a question on another note I am getting a puppy hopefully this summer and you mentioned Robert Cabral training. Is there a special code to sign up? Thank you and have a lovely day!
I don’t. It’s just a garage. I don’t leave my dogs in the garage when the temperatures are extreme though I do have a giant 4 foot standing fan for the summer to provide a nice cool breeze 👍🏼
Great video thank you After some advice from you or anyone else Can you train a dog to place on a standard flat dog bed? I notice the use of raised dog beds with a lot of trainers. Is there any “science” behind the use of place command on a raised dog bed? I have raised dog beds ready but don’t want them in the house as don’t look great So should I (a) just stick with training place on flat dog beds or (b) train on raised dog beds knowing that the place command will still work on a flat dog bed? Or is that too confusing for a dog?
It’s is a lot easier for a dog to distinguish a raised surface than a flatter surface that may be the same color/texture than a carpeted floor. The raised bed has an extra dimensional it for them. Sure it can be done with a regular dog bed or flat bed but I’d try to make it as different as possible than the floor around it. And raised beds tend to be cooler. If you have a dog that over heats easily then raised is the way to go.
Great video! When off leash like in this situation, if the dog did not place when told or using your body to guide them what else would you do? I have a 2 1/2 yr old GSD who used follow commands and is now tending to not come when called or not placing. If she does place it is only while we are watching her, if we turn our back she is off. I thought she was done with her "teenage" stage.
Sounds like you need to work on duration. You could definitely implement more correction when she gets off place, that may mean you start having her leashed or using an ecollar when she breaks place without you releasing her.
Crisis doesn't have lots of access to the pack because she's a puppy and you want to create engagement with yourself first, right? This is what I am doing with my Aussie pup but my family think I'm a fun killer 😞 But I don't want her going out of her mind every time another dog that looks like ours walks past.
This is something I really need to work on with my Malinois. So this morning on my walk my dog was almost attacked by the neghibors new dog who is also a belgian malinois. He was not in a fence or on a leash and charged at us his owner was trying to call his off and he didn't even pay any attention to him. This dog was absolutely out of control and he had no control over. When he came at my dog my dog went back after him in a situation like that should I have given my dog a correction? Also do you think it would be rude of me if I went over and talked to the owner? He should not be letting his dog run loose when he as no control over him.
I say definitely talk to the owner and no correcting your dog for defending itself I wouldn’t of done. Like if the other dog was coming at you you really don’t have time to correct your dog. I know mals are hard dogs but I’d try to carry something to deter them. Air horn, bat, etc. if after you talk to them this happens again then that’s when authorities should get involved, like if the dog isn’t vaccinated then the owners can get fined or have the dog taken from them, also keep receipts from any vet bills you have to pay if your dog get injured because of theirs. Should have this in mind if things get worse or they don’t listen to you after you’ve talked with them.
@@Agvarst0517 I had a teaser with me and was pressing it but he didn't seem to care. I never actually touched him with it but the sound didn't scare him. If he comes at me like that again but doesn't actually bite can i call someone and report it?
@@ccdeeelove6360 The sound of the teaser probably wasn't loud enough, thats why I said air horn, those are really loud and would probably scare you and your dog. at the very least it will get the attention of other people if they are near. and if you are going to have the teaser and intend to use it you have to remember it has to make contact with the skin, so it would be best to maybe go for an area with less fur. but something close range like that should only be used as a last resort, if he is biting you or your dog. so something like air horn or long distance things to use to make him run away would be best. if if is getting out and terrorizing the neighborhood but not actually biting anyone or anything then yes you can still report it especially if you dont feel safe trying to trap/catch him or just unsafe in general. animal control can come out and catch him. but if he bites you or your dog definitely report it. as you know owning a Mal, they aren't a dog for every one and I would have no shame in reporting one to have it taken from a neglectful owner. if you can though definitely talk with them first and try to figure out if maybe they need some help training. if they aren't receptive to that and the dog keeps getting out then thats when other means are needed.
I thought her timing was good. She gave verbal praise after the dogs gave what she wanted. So even without the treats right away the dogs knew what they did right. The dogs already know the command so shoving a treat in their face right away isn’t warranted. Also she was recording and talking to us so that may have slowed her down some, I think she was fine.
Riot was literally being a teachers pet 🐶
Riot seen that you were coordinating this exercise and decided to stay in his place. Such a smart boy!
Glad to see that you’re back :)
Wow, I am impressed! Really good video!
This was so awesome! Absorbing yours, Robert's, and others content before we take ownership of our new pup. Then training begins!🤙🏽
I love how Riot was like “I’m not interested in playing with them, ima just lay here with my toy and get treats”

Could you do a haul of everything you have for the dogs? I love seeing what people have for their dogs
We have a solid black GSD but very much has the temperament/energy level of your dogs! Love your channel

Hey Welcome back you were missed great video looking forward to much more.
Excited for this one!
Happy 2022 🎊!Great to see you and thank you! Gods Bless you and the family! Love the new do!
I CANT WAIT FOR THIS
the difficult times that you or any other owners have, i think is what the people really want to see to fully grasp, those difficult times.
Your videos are very interesting.. it gives me hope that with training and consistency I can own Belgium Malinois dogs.
I really need this information right now ☺️

I too have a 4 month old male malinois! Kay does this beautifully! I hope I can follow suit!
How do you decide when to keep them in the kennel vs crate vs house?

Great video. I like your new hair cut.
Outstanding!!!!
Hello from the UK 🇬🇧 love your videos please could you do a video on mental stimulation what exercises we could use please
Bravo!!!
great video.....
What is the purpose of keeping the puppy separate from the others so much?
Great video. How would you replicate this with only 1 dog. Play with it and then interrupt the play?
Just remember, Practice makes Progress! Nothing is perfect. Only ask for Progress.
Where do you get your dog kennels from in your garage?
I have a full video on the garage set up with links in the description of the video and everything 👍🏼

I like your video:)
where are the cages from?
How you insulate / rotate fresh air in your garage I’m curious!
I don’t. It’s just a garage. I don’t leave my dogs in the garage when the temperatures are extreme though I do have a giant 4 foot standing fan for the summer to provide a nice cool breeze 👍🏼

Just wondering if I missed something… where’s the 4th dog? “Fury “?
She wasn’t in this video because I only have 3 beds at the time for the demonstration 😂

Who’s missing? I know there’s four of them.
Fury is missing.
If you want the best food for your dog feed 100% usda organic. Coats, muscle, organs, etc will be at peak performance. 'All Natural' is anything but
First!
where is fury??
I only have 3 cots at the moment
As soon as they sit where you want give the treat right away you waited to long

Dude the benefit you have is that they got each other 😂 if you were raising a single child things would be different.
You are awesome, but you know I am right 😂
I am gonna add fish oil to her food as well 🙌
Where is Fury?
