Thanks for that solve! What a surprise to see this old silly puzzle of mine appear here. I know the weird zipper shape is annoying but what do you expect from a puzzle dedicated to Mr. Clippy? Seriously though, after finding the idea of using fog to add another microsoft meme I was really pleased how this one turned out.
The aesthetic that confused me was actually the white dots in box 4 when they were still half covered in fog. I didn't recognize them as clues and had to revisit the rules before it clicked. 😅
I misaligned the lavender line leading to an eventual contradiction, so when it said "restart me plz" i thought that screwing it up was part of the puzzle
Had to sneak a peak at simon's solve to clarify the purple line, could really use an explicit statement given the unusual geometry, but with that away a nice tight little solve. Very fun!
This is one of those puzzles that stays with you. I remember solving this a long time ago and I always have it at the ready to recommend for anyone who's in the mood for a puzzle with a bit of whimsy.
The omission of any mention of fog rules in the write-up had me trying to find a "you assumed that was in the rules but read them again" trick, last Wednesday's got me paranoid XD
5:01 ... I started and restarted multiple times ... then watched the beginning of the video and finally understood how the bottom bit of the lavender line works!! cool little puzzle
I love this little video - all of your videos, large or small, Simon, are such a pleasure to watch. But today I was in the mood for something a bit simpler, and this totally fit the bill. Thanks for all that you do to make this channel so great!
Understanding the bottom part of the purple line was the most challenging part of this puzzle, the rest of it pretty much fell into place on its own. Not that l'm complaining, pretty fun short puzzle :]
I finished in 12:14 minutes. This was a cute throwback. I was a bit confused on the layout of the line, but seeing that r4c2 was essentially doing double duty made it easier. It is nice to get a reprieve from the long puzzles. Short ones are always appreciated. As always, it feels good to beat Simon's time. Great Puzzle!
Hadn't seen this one before, but it was indeed very fun! Done in 4:56 (conflict checker off, the paperclip took a bit for me to wrap my head around), many thanks to gdc for a really fun puzzle!
Glad I attempted this one. Got it done with similar stumbles: the overlap on the purple line, re-checking my logic to make sure I hadn't missed a zero-based deduction, plus my own lack of familiarity with puzzles that don't use the full set of digits in the rows and columns. All completely fair though, a puzzle should have ways to trip you up. I think the rules are clear enough, you just have to pay attention when applying them.
Also it's 11:55pm on the day this video was published and the solve counter is now at 3,735, so I guess quite a few of us attempted it (and solved it!)
A nice one - i had to restart after 3 mins as i was completely lost on the geometry of the lavender line but once i worked that out it was all done in less than 10 mins. Really fun one - thanks GDC
A parody of the old "blue screen of death"... when Windows encountered an error it couldn't recover from, it would give you a "blue screen of death" with an error message, and then you'd have to restart your computer.
He made the same logical mistake i did oh no... spoilers It's not that you can't add 8 with anything to get 8, because you CAN do that in the puzzle, 8+0=8 It's the fact that once you put 8 on the zipper IN THAT BOX, you then have to put another 8 in the same box to be the sum value
I realized that Simon made that logic error, but I didn't take it the next step to see how it got resolved. Simon got lucky, but it would have resolved itself the same way.
ive never tried the puzzles on this channel before cuz they all seem so intimidating but i tried this one cuz the video was only 20min long so seemed like i could do it, and i did it in 30 min which as a noob i think is fine lol. very fun and very cute puzzle i did ennjoy it :)
nice quick & easy nightcap from an older gdc puzzle - an absolute pleasure to do any of gdc's puzzles, old or new! Took just shy of 10 minutes for this one - that paperclip really gave me a bit of trouble, and also my eyes couldn't see the 8 in box 4 to complete box 2 for about 30 seconds (embarassing!) - time for bed, then haha
I laughed so hard when the hidden message was revealed, so nostalgic. I remember it crashed so often that even though the animations were nice it wasn't worth running that part of Word. Though to be honest I preferred the dog assistant that was clippy's predecessor.
I was laughing my head off, because back in the day that paperclip was overly cheerful, rather annoying and it crashed often. I recall an office email entitiled "how to turn off that [effing] paperclip."
His brain is just chock full of power. His mind is as strong as a tower. You saw what Simon did- He solved such a strange grid And in only a sixth of an hour!
17:07, was really not a fan of how confusing the bottom part of the zipper line is set up, that legitimately made me think I was going insane for a moment when I kept counting the pairs on the line and finding things not seem to add up right until I realized what was going on. Rest of the solve was fairly smooth
24:50, probably my first time ever beating one of the videos. Granted, I watch the rules before I click the puzzle, and I also don't have to explain anything, but I'm still giving myself a pat on the back. The hat line was confusing to figure out for a bit, because of the tiny section that dipped into R4C2 and was part of the line. I kept looking past it and saying there was no pair to finish the line on until I finally understood. A fun puzzle, though.
Fun. Has a bit of trouble wrapping my head around the pairs on the zipper line and the missing digits in the rows and columns kind of messed with me logically. Nothing really difficult, but different in a way that I found satisfying.
I am so bad at these. I got stuck with the 3 fogged squares on the bottom and came to the conclusion they must be hiding eyes to resolve the options I had. I completely ignored the X on the top right for some reason. I did manage to solve it though not the way it was intended I think.
17:42, had to undo a bunch because I messed up lavender line, not seeing I could have an 8 where the two parts crossed over. I actually had to redraw the lines because them cutting through the corners of the cells were super confusing to me.
While solving, I completely failed to notice/remember this was a fog puzzle, so I was quite startled when it cleared! Is this the first fog puzzle featured where the rules didn't feel the need to explain the fog mechanic?
Can confirm this is NSFW. My office just crashed and I had to restart. Someone clip this plz. For some context: The paperclip that was meant to give you hints in microsoft office was called "Clippit", usually referred to as "Clippy". It was a thing in office 2000-2003 and I remember it being perceived as annoying by everyone (man I feel old). Also "X"-ing it was a 10/10 move. ^^
The biggest problem here is to decipher where the clues are in this sudoku. To spot all those white and black dots and color the right squares on this lavender line.
i managed in 31 minutes. i think the "restart me plz" message was in reference to a bluescreen, especially when paired with the menacing eyes below it. i was concerned that the puzzle wanted me to start over because i feel for some kind of red herring. thankfully not. -liz

8:16 ... I needed this too, after yesterday's sudoku
Nice puzzle!
Loved the flow, having to go back and forth between the two lines and dots, not getting stuck focusing on one of them. A good lesson.

8:11 the duplicity of the zipper sent my brain into a bit of cognitive dissonance for a moment.

I feel like some clippy puzzle has been featured on the channel before but not sure if it was that one.
Either way it was a joy to solve.
Yay, just the right puzzle to finish a day. 13 minutes for me, solve counter 8406.
just found out that y'all's opening theme is also used in Groundhog Day. what a weird thing to come across

Also "X"-ing it was a 10/10 move. ^^
And Steve Balmer not making Clippy the mascot of the LA Clippers (the NBA team he bought after stepping down as head of Microsoft) is a crime
The biggest problem here is to decipher where the clues are in this sudoku. To spot all those white and black dots and color the right squares on this lavender line.
You really have to think inside the box for this one.
I don't think which cells the purple line goes into is clear at all in this puzzle

Nice tight and gentle solve once I, in my colour-blindness, stopped trying to make the paper clip modular ...
Funny puzzle.
21.20 for me. That dual line square threw me off a bit, but once I figured that out it was fairly straight forward.
Got lost on understanding the difference between lavender and teal :/
9:09 great solve
That was cute and very quick!
Also I think the picture in the bottom right corner is another "Zippy" that's gotten a bit mixed up :)

Ah, turns out Simon was doing this puzzle having had a couple. Explains my relative alacrity!
Remember too that Simon turns off the conflict checker, that's a massive time saver in most cases.
Yep, me too!

Clippy is Copilot’s grandpa
Well that was a fun zippy puzzle
Short and sweet. 14:30.
Great one, wish it lasted longer than 3:20😛
At the end, of course, 8 was not next to the 7, so it could be resolved different ways.
Wow, that took me 10 min, not really a typical gdc puzzle...
7:43 for me. the shape of the paperclip was unnecesseraly misleading.
I can’t make sense of the lavender line. I’m not sure if it’s drawn improperly or if the rules are vague, but it doesn’t seem to work the way it should
I have the same issue, im so confused
I'm also having the same problem. I tried marking the cells on either side of the hat and got a longer line on the right than on the left.
@@Pheehelm I figured it out after a while, the key is to note that R4C2 is on the line twice. Good luck!

"Behatted"?
9:36 for me.
well that was easy
How is the purple line resolved? It isn't even? One side is longer than the other
Both lines go through row 4, column 2
There are 5 cells on each side 😉

It was definitely unclear.

The teal line looks very green... can't you use colours that are clear to recognize, especially when there's fog in the puzzle..
It looks like teal to me.
I was curious, so I imported into an editor to get the RGB values. R:115, G:206, B:176
So it's a little more green than blue, but I'd say it still qualifies as teal (somewhere between blue and green). It's not lavender, for sure, so it's hard to see how it would not be identified as a teal line described in the rules.
13:24 for me.
