The Invasion of Lingayen Gulf , 6-9 January 1945, was an Allied amphibious operation in the Philippines during World War II. In the early morning of 6 January 1945, a large Allied force commanded by Admiral Jesse B. Oldendorf began approaching the shores of Lingayen. U.S. Navy and Royal Australian Navy warships began bombarding suspected Japanese positions along the coast of Lingayen from their position in Lingayen Gulf for three days. On 9 January, the U.S. 6th Army landed on a 20 mi (32 km) beachhead between the towns of Lingayen and San Fabian.

My Dad was there, Radarman on USS COLUMBIA CL-56 Columbia returned to the Pacific, covering the landings at Peleliu and taking part in the Battle of Surigao Strait on the night of October 24-25 during the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Whilst covering the landings during the Lingayen Gulf invasion on January 6, 1945, she was struck by a kamikaze, and was further hit by a second kamikaze three days later while laying close to shore due to the prior damage. Under repairs until June 1945, Columbia returned to the Pacfic, participating in the Allied invasion of Borneo and serving in the East China Sea when Japan capitulated in mid-August.

I've read some more about Lingayan Gulf and My father's ship the USS Lloyd apd 63, they landed support troops on January 11th and they still had to destroy a Japanese shore battery that hit an LST.
That was a large invasion in the Pacific theater.
I've read a little about your father's ship, and it also experienced a lot of Kamikaze planes, plus some hits that took it out of action for a short time.
It saw a lot of action earning a lot of battle stars.
I always read the hats on older gentlemen that served.

He Was on Columbia, my Dad was to. He also went to Korea on the USS Oriskany, I now am retired Marine living near this location raising lil white babies
